Download or read book Effects of Compressibility on the Maximum Lift Characteristics and Spanwise Load Distribution of a 12-foot-span Fighter-type Wing of NACA 230-series Airfoil Sections written by E. O. Pearson and published by . This book was released on 1945 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Force and pressure-distribution measurements were made on a fighter-type wing model of conventional NACA 230-series airfoil sections in the Langley 16-foot high-speed tunnel to determine the effects of compressibility on the maximum lift characteristics and the span-wise load distribution. The range of angle of attack investigated was from -10 to +24 degrees. The Mach range of from 0.20 to 0.70 at small and medium angles of attack and from 0.15 to 0.625 at very large angles of attack. Maximum lift coefficient increased up to a Mach number of 0.3, decreased rapidly to a Mach number of 0.55, and then decreased moderately. At high speeds, maximum lift coefficient was reached at from 10 to 12 degrees beyond the stalling angle. In high-speed stalls, resultant load underwent a moderate shift outward.

This book was released on 1948 with total page 670 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The attenuation characteristics of the muffler used in the demonstration of light airplane noise reduction were investigated on the ground dynamometer stand at the Langley full-scale tunnel. Sound, back pressure, and engine power output were measured. The ground tests indicated that a reduction of 10 to 15 decibels was to be expected from this muffler.

This book was released on 1947 with total page 510 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The rupture-test characteristics at 1350 degrees F of two wrought alloys in the solution-treated and aged condition, NR-82 (6059 modified-low carbon) and NR-84 (N-155 modified-low carbon), and three precision-cast alloys in aged condition, NR-71 (X-40), NR-87 (Co-Cr-Ni base-9Mo) and NR-90 (Co-Cr-Ni base-5Mo, 5W) are reported. The properties are shown to compare favorably with those of the strongeest similar alloys previously investigated. A correlation of NACA and OSRD data is presented, showing the variation of ruture strengths with temperature for the alloys between 1350 degrees and 2000 degrees F.

Book Synopsis Investigation of the Variation of Maximum Lift for a Pitching Airplane Model and Comparison with Flight Results by : Paul W. Harper
Download or read book Investigation of the Variation of Maximum Lift for a Pitching Airplane Model and Comparison with Flight Results written by Paul W. Harper and published by . This book was released on 1948 with total page 704 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Apparatus was developed which utilized a pitching airplane model to determine maximum wing loads as a function of the rate of change of angle of attack. In order to evaluate the pitching-model technique, the maximum lift coefficient was determined as a function of the rate of change of angle of attack over a Mach number range from approximately 0.2 to 0.6 in wind-tunnel tests of a 1/20-scale model of a conventional single-engine fighter airplane and was conpared with existing flight data of this airplane. The wind-tunnel and flight results were found to be in good agreement.
