Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Innovative Development in Micromanufacturing Processes details cutting edge technologies in micromanufacturing processes, an industry which has undergone a technological transformation in the past decade. Enabling engineers to create high performance, low cost, and long-lasting products, this book is an essential companion to all those working in micro and nano engineering. As products continue to get smaller and smaller, the field of micromanufacturing has gained an international audience. This book looks at both approaches of micromanufacturing: top-down and bottom-up. The top-down approach includes subtractive micromanufacturing processes such as microturning, micromilling, microdrilling, laser beam micromachining, and magnetic abrasive finishing. The bottom-up approach involves additive manufacturing processes such as micro-forming, micro deep drawing, microforging, microextrusion, and microwelding. Additionally, microjoining and microhybrid manufacturing processes are discussed in detail. The book also aids engineers and students in solving common manufacturing issues such as choice of materials and testing. The book will be of interest to those working in micro and nano engineering and machining, as well as students in manufacturing engineering, materials science, and more.

This book was released on 2018 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Objective: The purpose of this research project is to evaluate and compare the effect of different surface treatments on surface properties. Also the effect of different surface treatments with silane coupling agents on the bond strengths between resin cement and four CAD/CAM lithium disilicate-based glass ceramics (LDGC). Materials and methods: This study had three levels of analyses. Part I: The physicochemical analyses of four CAD/CAM LDGC surfaces. The surface physicochemical compositions of the four LDGC products (e.max CAD, Vita Suprinity, Celtra Duo, n!ce) were analyzed using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). In addition, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used to analyze the microstructure of LDGC. Part II: The effect of different surface treatments on the micromorphology and the roughness of four CAD/CAM lithium disilicate- based glass ceramics Atomic force microscopy (AFM) was used to measure the surface roughness and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used to analyze the changes in the surface micromorphology. Part III: The effect of an experimental silane coupling agent (TEOS) with different surface treatments on bond strength of four CAD /CAM lithium disilicate-based glass-ceramics. The shear bond strength between the ceramic surface and resin cement was tested using shear bond testing after a 30 day storage in distilled water. Results: The chemical composition percentage on the nano surfaces of the LGGC changed after hydrofluoric acid treatment. Different surface treatments produced different values of roughness. The highest shear bond strength values were found with the use of hydrofluoric acid treatment and the combination of both hydrofluoric acid and sandblasting followed by manufacturer's recommendation of silane coupling application. Conclusion: Surface treatments and silane coupling agents play a significant role to obtain reliable bond strengths between resin cement and LDGC restorations.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bioceramics are an important class of biomaterials. Due to their desirable attributes such as biocompatibility and osseointegration, as well as their similarity in structure to bone and teeth, ceramic biomaterials have been successfully used in hard tissue applications. In this book, a team of materials research scientists, engineers, and clinicians bridge the gap between materials science and clinical commercialization providing integrated coverage of bioceramics, their applications and challenges. The book is divided into three parts. The first part is a review of classes of medical-grade ceramic materials, their synthesis and processing as well as methods of property assessment. The second part contains a review of ceramic medical products and devices developed, their evolution, their clinical applications and some of the lessons learned from decades of clinical use. The third part outlines the challenges to improve performance and the directions that novel approaches and advanced technologies are taking, to meet these challenges. With a focus on the dialogue between surgeons, engineers, material scientists, and biologists, this book is a valuable resource for researchers and engineers working toward long-lasting, reliable, customized biomedical ceramic and composites devices. Edited by a team of experts with expertise in industry and academia Compiles the most relevant aspects on regulatory issues, standards and engineering of bioceramic medical devices as inspired by commercial and clinical needs Introduces bioceramics, their evolution and applications in hard tissue engineering and medical devices
