Book excerpt: Com o objetivo de estudos os efeitos da toxidez de Ni nas culturas de arroz (Oryza sativa L.) e de feijao (Phaseolus vulgaris L.), foram realizados experimentos em solucao nutritiva e solos acidos, com adicao de doses crescentes de Ni. Observou-se tambem os efeitos da calagem de solos acidos no controle da toxidez de Ni. Em solucao nutritiva, as doses de Ni foram 0, 1, 2, 4, 8 e 16 ppm, para ambas especies de plantas. A queda na producao da materia seca total em funcao de doses crescentes de Ni, demonstra uma maior tolerancia a altas doses de Ni do arroz em relacao ao feijao. Tomando como base estes resultados estabeleceram-se doses de Ni a serem utilizadas nas culturas de feijao (0, 1, 2 e 4 ppm) e do arroz (0, 4, 8 e 12 ppm). No feijao, comparando a producaode materia seca total de dois cultivaresd observou-se que o cultivar IAPAR-14 mostrou-se ser mais tolerante do que o cultivar Carioca a altas doses de Ni em solucao nutritiva. No arroz, tambem se verificaram diferncas varietais, em relacao a sua tolerancia a altas doses de Ni. A variedade IAC-165 foi um pouco mais tolerante que a variedade IAC-4440. Analise dos teores de nutrientes mostra que o Ni afeta a absorcao de nutrientes, sendo observadas as seguintes interacoes antagonicas: Ni x Mg e Ni x Fe no feijao, Ni x Ca, Ni x Mg e Ni x Mn no arroz. Tambem verificou-se que o Ni acumula-se principalmente nas raizes das plantas.
