Book Synopsis The Origins of Macho by : Sonya Lipsett-Rivera
Download or read book The Origins of Macho written by Sonya Lipsett-Rivera and published by University of New Mexico Press. This book was released on 2019-06-15 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With limited resources to contextualize masculinity in colonial Mexico, film, literature, and social history perpetuate the stereotype associating Mexican men with machismo—defined as excessive virility that is accompanied by bravado and explosions of violence. While scholars studying men’s gender identities in the colonial period have used Inquisition documents to explore their subject, these documents are inherently limiting given that the men described in them were considered to be criminals or otherwise marginal. Nineteenth- and twentieth-century resources, too, provide a limited perspective on machismo in the colonial period. The Origins of Macho addresses this deficiency by basing its study of colonial Mexican masculinity on the experiences of mainstream men. Lipsett-Rivera traces the genesis of the Mexican macho by looking at daily interactions between Mexican men in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. In doing so she establishes an important foundation for gender studies in Mexico and Latin America and makes a significant contribution to the larger field of masculinity studies.

Book Synopsis The Changing Spanish Family by : Tiffany Trotman
Download or read book The Changing Spanish Family written by Tiffany Trotman and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2011-08-31 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite centuries of Catholic conservatism, Spain stands among the Western countries that have recently embraced non-traditional families. A decline in the dominance of extended families, the upswing in single-parent households, and an increase in the number of working mothers have all transformed what it means to be a "Spanish family." Many factors have prompted this change, including the end of Franco's dictatorship, the liberalization of society, economic reforms, Spanish feminism, and recent Socialist constitutional reforms recognizing the rights of same-sex partners. This collection of essays examines how authors, filmmakers and playwrights are engaging with changes to Spanish culture, exploring the very redefining of Spanish society.

Book Synopsis Germanofilia.
Download or read book Germanofilia. Origen, estado de la cuestión y perspectivas written by Luis Alberto Lugo Amador and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2011-11-28 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis La IntéRprete de HernáN CortéS by : Carlos Laredo
Download or read book La IntéRprete de HernáN CortéS written by Carlos Laredo and published by Palibrio. This book was released on 2012-10 with total page 259 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
