Book excerpt: In magnetic fusion devices, particularly tokamaks and reversed field pinch (RFP) experiments, time-varying magnetic fields are in intimate contact with electrically conducting components of the device. Induced currents, fields, forces, and torques result. This note reviews the analysis of eddy current effects in the following systems: Interaction of a tokamak plasma with the eddy currents in the first wall, blanket, and shield (FWBS) systems; Eddy currents in a complex but two-dimensional vacuum vessel, as in TFTR, JET, and JT-60; Eddy currents in the FWBS system of a tokamak reactor, such as NET, FER, or ITER; and Eddy currents in a RFP shell. The cited studies are chosen to be illustrative, rather than exhaustive. 42 refs.

Book excerpt: The aim of the biennial series of symposia on Fusion Technology organized by the European Fusion Laboratories, is the exchange of information on the design, construction and operation of fusion experiments and on the technology being developed for the next-step devices and fusion reactors. The coverage of the volume includes the technological aspects of fusion reactors in relation to new developments, thus forming a guideline for the definition of future work. These proceedings comprise three volumes and contain both the invited lectures and contributed papers presented at the symposium, which was attended by 569 participants from around the globe. The 343 papers, including 12 invited papers, characterise the increasing interest of industry in the fusion programme, giving a broad and current overview on the progress and trends fusion technology is experiencing now, as well as indicating the future for fusion devices.

Book Synopsis Industrial Application of Electromagnetic Computer Codes by : Yves R. Crutzen
Download or read book Industrial Application of Electromagnetic Computer Codes written by Yves R. Crutzen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the last decade a new generation of software tools has evolved in computational electromagnetics. Both analyti cal methods and particularly numerical techniques have improved considerably, leading to an extended range of capabilities and an increased applicability of both dedicated and general purpose computer codes. It is the intention of this volume to review the state of the art in electromagnetic analysis and design, and to describe the fundamentals and the advances in theoreti cal/numerical approaches coupled with practical solutions for static and time-dependent fields. In this context, the book illustrates the effectiveness of numerical techniques and associated computer codes in solving real electromagnetic field problems. In addition, it demonstrates the usefulness of modern codes for the analysis of many industrial practical cases. In particular, solutions of magnetostatic and magnetodynamic problems applied to electrical machines, induction heating, non destructive testing, fusion reactor technology and other industrial are presented and discussed. The present volume reflects and combines the lectures which are organized in the frame of the Eurocourse programme at JRC Ispra under the sponsorship of the Institute for Sys tems Engineering and Informatics (ISEI). It is hoped that in this context the Institute and particularly the Systems Engineering & Reliability (SER) Division can play a stimulating role in sponsoring and promoting the diffusion of knowledge in novel areas of computer and information science.
