Book Synopsis Korea’s Economic Miracle by : Robert Castley
Download or read book Korea’s Economic Miracle written by Robert Castley and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-07-27 with total page 409 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Very few developing countries have successfully industrialised. Many are under pressure from international organisations to achieve 'self-sustainable' industrialisation. This is why Korea's case is particularly interesting. There have been many attempts to explain the causes of Koreas' economic miracle. These have focused mainly on the internal factors such as the discipline of the Korean workforce and export-promotion policies. The present study however shows that these factors contributed to Korea's impressive growth but do not explain the reasons for her success. External factors have been more important, the Japanese economy in particular. This book examines therefore in detail the impact of Japan's economic growth on the Korean economy, in particular the stimulating effects of trade, sub-contracting, relocation of industry, investment, loans and technology transfer. It demonstrates how Japan provided a range of goods, services and capitals which were precisely what the newly industrialising country needed.

Potential strategic clusters are identified for intra-regional collaboration given each region's unique strengths and resource endowments to facilitate accelerated economic growth and development which is balanced, fair and sustainable. The book also presents an update of ACI's annual competitiveness analysis of India's 35 states and federal territories. States and federal territories are ranked by ACI's comprehensive methodology by employing 75 indicators across four environments. Going beyond the rankings, the what-if policy simulations offer states and federal territories relevant policy prescriptions based on their respective strengths and weaknesses. A subset of the competitiveness indicators are then utilised for Geweke Causality Analysis to highlight the impact of strong leadership on economic development in the states of Bihar and Tamil Nadu.

Book excerpt: In particular, this book of essays is aimed at quenching the thirst of undergraduate and postgraduate students of agricultural economics in the institutions of higher learning at home and abroad for a quick reference book on Nigerian development, which they require for proper understanding of taught courses. In general, it is also aimed at dependent and independent professionals in the public and private sectors of the economy and development community at large, with a view to providing them with the institutional memory they require to demonstrate their expertise on the job much better. To this end, the book offers the benefit of many years of experience in teaching, research, and community services, through a menu of topics for profitable reading about the inner mechanisms of the policy process for agricultural development of the country in real time. Herein is strenuously articulated the systematic outputs of disciplined hard work spanning three decades, from 1988 to 2018, including the last ten years of active engagements in policy advocacy outside the university system. The menu of nonexperimental writings provides information about the seemingly dry area of agricultural historiography of the country embedded in a series of analytical thoughts and expositions on performance of successive programs and projects for developing the agricultural economy.

Book Synopsis Integrated Assessment of Sustainable Energy Systems in China, The China Energy Technology Program by : Baldur Eliasson
Download or read book Integrated Assessment of Sustainable Energy Systems in China, The China Energy Technology Program written by Baldur Eliasson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2003 with total page 860 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is no progress without access to energy and no energy use without supporting technology. Only one sixth of the earth's population has an easy access to sufficient energy. The other five sixth will increase their demand for energy in the future. The global environmental problems we face will increasingly affect our daily life. Adjust and fair price for energy is necessary for comparing the pros and cons of energy technology application. The road to an objective analysis of an energy system is called "Integrated Energy Analysis" and covers a cradle-to-grave system approach. This book contains such an analysis of the electricity energy system in Shandong-Province, one of China's 32 Provinces. It also presents a decision support analysis tool. It should allow decision makers in China to choose the right system of electricity supply with minimum environmental impact and/or minimum "true" cost. The book contains a DVD, which contains a more extensive record of the research results obtained. It also contains all the tools, which have been developed. The methodology presented in this book and DVD is easily applicable to other Provinces in China and also other countries and regions. This research presents a pioneering effort in bringing together the three essential partners for any such research program, Industry, Academia and the Stakeholders, i.e. prospective users of the results. An important aspect of this international program with 75 participants was the leadership provided by a dedicated and professional Program Management Team from Industry. Developing a sustainable energy supply in China is an essential part of a global strategy to promote development while mitigating environmental pollution and the effect of greenhouse gas emissions.
