It describes the evolutionary psychologists’ theory of gene-culture co-evolution, which states that although customs and culture are not predetermined by anyone’s genetic makeup, one’s practice of a custom can influence the likelihood of that person having children and grandchildren. Therefore, according to the theory, customs count as evolutionary adaptations. Extending that theory further, as entire systems of political economy—capitalism, socialism, and hunter-gatherer subsistence—consist of multiple customs and institutions, it follows that an entire political-economic system can likewise be classified as an evolutionary adaptation. Considering that liberal-republican capitalism has, insofar as the system has been implemented, done more to reduce the mortality rate and secure human fertility than other models of societal structure, it stands to reason that liberal-republican capitalism is itself a beneficent evolutionary adaptation. Moreover, as essential tenets of Rand’s Objectivism—individualism, observation-based rationality, and peaceable self-interest—have been integral to the development of the capitalist ecosystem, important aspects of the Objectivism are worthwhile adaptations as well. This book shall uphold that position, as well as combat critiques by evolutionary psychologists and environmentalists who denounce capitalism as self-destructive. Instead, capitalism is the most sustainable and fairest political model. This book argues that of all the philosophies, Objectivism is the one that is most fit for humanity.

Nellu, Marakappile Theyyangal, and Aathi. Until the last decade of the previous century, ecological concerns were unknown to the society in general. Malayalam literary world was largely preoccupied with its own overemphasized themes. But with much concentration on infrastructure development and the unprecedented development of the service sector, the inevitable conflict between nature and culture, between the common people and development managers became the order of the day. In the mid-1980s and early 90s, there has been a substantial growth in environmental literary studies. This book examines the shift happened in literature from its preoccupation with the 'human' in nature to a concern for the nonhuman nature. With full acknowledgement of the influence of earlier eco critical texts published in the language, this book seeks to study in detail, how the above mentioned novels can be called in as prototypical of a new sensibility that has just made its presence felt in Malayalam literary scenario. Literary Eco criticisms, of which these novels are proper representations, depicts the struggles undertaken by the people for their right to land, water and air and at the same time engender resistance movements elsewhere. Such a study needs to be historically located within the large compass of literature. Eco criticism is motivated by environmental praxis in as much it seeks literary representations of physical nature.

From the perspectives of both political theory and policy studies, the chapters explore the implications of deliberative democratic governance for professional expertise and extends them to specific policy practices. Following the lead of John Dewey, the discussion focuses in particular on the ways professional practices might be reoriented to assist citizens in understanding and discussing the complex policy issues of an advanced technological society. In doing so, it also explores how public deliberation can be improved through more cooperative forms of policy inquiry. Adopting a deliberative-analytic approach , policy inquiry is grounded in a postempiricist, constructivist understanding of inquiry and knowledge and the participatory practices that support it. Toward this end, the chapters draw on thriving theoretical and practical work dedicated to revitalizing the citizen's role in both civil society and newer practices of democratic governance, in particular deliberative democracy in political theory, practical work with deliberative experiments, the theory and practices of democratic governance, and participatory research. Calling for a specialization of "policy epistemics" to advance such practices, the second half of the book takes up issues related to deliberative empowerment, including the relation of technical and social knowledge, the interpretive dimensions of social meaning and multiple realities, the role of narrative knowledge and storylines policy inquiry, social learning, tacit knowledge, the design of discursive spaces, and the place of emotional expression in public deliberation.
