Book excerpt: July, 2009; Andrew Curtiss received a Chain Mail in his E-Mail box. The Message was sent to him from a former colleague he served with in the US Army Special Forces at Fort Bragg North Carolina. The subject line of the message read "Congratulations you made the terrorist watch list!" The content suggested that the Department of Homeland Security had labled millions of Americans who are Constitutionalists, Pro Life, of Christian faith, voters for rightwing politics, are combat veterans and more; as potential domestic terrorists. After researching the matter Andrew found that the DHS did infact publish such a report that was meant to be confidential for law enforcement only. The report was published April 7, 2009. It was during Andrew's research into the matter that he realized the "Fundamental Transformation" of America as promised by Barrack Obama was indeed transforming America into something much like Oceania in George Orwell's "1984." 1984 Redux digs deep into the issues facing Americans today as America "Fundamentally Transforms." Curtiss draws the comparison of where Obama and his leftist handlers and drones want to take America as part of this transformation; to the extreme Socialist Oligarchy depicted in Orwell's "1984." Supported by scores of references and facts, one might be surprised to see how close to Orwell's nightmarish depiction America is headed. 1984 Redux is not only a wakeup call to America, but the world; as to what could be if the most influential nation in the world and "last hope for freedom" falls to the left.

Book excerpt: Crossing Borders helps students develop a framework for understanding the various disciplines that constitute international studies by exploring the many boundaries they knowingly (and unknowingly) cross on a daily basis. Renowned authors Harry I. Chernotsky and Heidi H. Hobbs address the diverse fields of international studies—geography, politics, economics, sociology, and anthropology—giving instructors a launching point to pursue their own disciplinary interests. This bestseller not only helps students to better grasp international affairs, but also offers advice on how they can engage with global issues through study abroad, internships, and career options. Updated thoroughly to reflect recent events and trends, the Fourth Edition assesses the COVID-19 pandemic; the use of social media to interfere in elections; the role of China in trade, investment, and finance; and the tensions surrounding persistent racial and gender inequities around the world. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the impact of Partition on refugees in East and Northeast India and their struggle for identity, space and political rights. In the wake of the legalisation of the Citizenship Amendment Act in 2019, this region remains a hotbed of identity and refugee politics. Drawing on extensive research and in-depth fieldwork, this book discusses themes of displacement, rehabilitation, discrimination and politicisation of refugees that preceded and followed the Partition of India in 1947. It portrays the crises experienced by refugees in recreating the socio-cultural milieu of the lost motherland and the consequent loss of their linguistic, cultural, economic and ethnic identities. The author also studies how the presence of the refugees shaped the conduct of politics in West Bengal, Assam and Tripura in the decades following Partition. Refugees, Borders and Identities will be indispensable for scholars and researchers of refugee studies, border studies, South Asian history, migration studies, Partition studies, sociology, anthropology, political studies, international relations and refugee studies, and for general readers of modern Indian history.
