Book excerpt: A school project goes terribly wrong in this middle-grade thriller about ex-homeschooler and Christian teen Hudson Sutton and his experiences in his new school. When he makes two friends and attempts to take on an established hierarchy of bullying, he doesn't realize he's taking a risk he never expected--becoming a bully himself. From the same author who wrote the suspenseful fiction Code of Silence series, this is a realistic look at the extent and reality of bullying, especially through social media, with a Christian protagonist who learns that relationships, bullying, and doing the right thing are a bit more complicated than he realized. It also touches on the subject of suicide.

Book excerpt: ‘I was an easy target. Adam tells his story with raw honesty which at times is heartbreaking and at other times, hilarious. Easy Target outlines the real-life steps Adam has taken in order to overcome his darkest days, change his mindset and transform his life. With contributing chapters by best-selling authors, this book is about change, hope, and belief for a brighter future. “A must read to nurture perspective and understanding of those around us and especially ourselves.” -PAUL DE GELDER Endorsements “This book is a must read for anyone who thinks that `nasty words’ whether written or spoken don’t leave a lasting legacy. When those words are critical, mean, and constant, the damage can run deep, and affect a person’s life in ways that are unimaginable. But this isn’t a sad tale that will leave you feeling flat… It is a powerful story of someone who faced all those demons and came out on top. I have no doubt Adam’s honesty, courage, openness, and journey of self-help, self-discovery, and healing, will no doubt assist others that are struggling with their mental health. He has shared his darkest moments, and explained the constructive and helpful steps he took to regain control of his life. Bravo Adam.” JOHANNA GRIGGS, TV Presenter and Beyond Blue Director “A truly inspiring tale of one man’s struggles to overcome life’s pitfalls. Adam’s story is full of heart-wrenching and at times, hilarious reflections which leave the reader feeling there is always a way forward, no matter how tough the road. A must read to nurture perspective and understanding of those around us and especially ourselves. Paul de Gelder, Author, Veteran, TV Presenter, and International Speaker "If you were to look up the words 'courage' and inspiration' in the dictionary, there should be the name Adam Blum included in the definition. I have no doubt that by sharing his story, Adam will help others overcome adversity. Well done on a ripper book." These are words I already knew about Adam Blum. But strong, resilient, and brave are what I have learnt about him since reading his book Easy Target. Told with unflinching honesty, Adam shows true strength that has defied the bully’s taunts and the teacher who told him he would “amount to nothing.” Instead, he has thrived because of them. Adam’s book is a must-read for anyone who is struggling. It’s an important story that will save your life.” DONNA BOURKE, Former Warrant Officer Class 2 Army Intelligence and Author. "Adam displays the very essence of the attributes to hold courage and vulnerability. Book excerpt: After twenty-fives years on the job, NYPD Lieutenant Greg Webster retired to a small Kansas college to teach classes in Criminal Justice. Webster looked forward to the move as a well-deserved rest for himself and his social-worker wife, Carolyn. Unfortunately, before even a year had passed Carolyn was dead, killed in an apparent hit-and-run accident. Though dazed and heartbroken, Greg suspected nothing sinister about her death until, as a class project, one of Webster "s students began researching local violent deaths and Carolyn "s accident began to look more and more like the latest in a series of murders. But why would a successful serial killer tempt fate by targeting the wife of a retired police officer? Maybe because it was all becoming too easy for him, too many easy targets. Now the murderer wanted more of a challenge, an opponent tougher than the local campus cops. But in taking on Greg Webster the Watcher has made a serious mistake. He should have heeded the old warning: Be careful what you wish for.

Download or read book Remote Viewing written by Courtney Brown and published by Farsight, Inc.. This book was released on 2005 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Remote viewing is the mental ability to perceive and describe places, persons, or events at distant locations in the past, present, and future. This book describes the science and theory of the remote-viewing phenomenon. The reality of the remote-viewing phenomenon is not in dispute among a large body of respected researchers ¿ both inside and outside of academia ¿ who have published an extensive collection of high-quality investigations over the past few decades. But profound mysteries remain. This volume breaks new ground by resolving some of remote-viewing¿s greatest enigmas. In these pages, new research and new theories explain why remote viewing works, and why it is scientifically possible. These investigations utilize remote-viewing methods that are derivative of those used for decades in well-documented U.S. government funded psi research sponsored by the Central Intelligence Agency (C.I.A.) and the Defense Intelligence Agency (D.I.A.). Filled with descriptions and analyses of highly original experiments, here is an investigation into the fascinating characteristics of time and physical reality using remote viewing as a tool of exploration, offering evidence that the past, present, and future truly exist simultaneously. The idea of differing future and past time lines is not just science fiction.
Download or read book Speech Timing written by Alice Turk and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2020-02-27 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the nature of cognitive representations and processes in speech motor control, based primarily on evidence from speech timing. It engages with the key question of whether phonological representations are spatio-temporal, as in the Articulatory Phonology approach, or symbolic (atemporal and non-quantitative); this issue has fundamental implications for the architecture of the speech production planning system, particularly with regard to the number of planning components and the type of timing mechanisms. Alice Turk and Stefanie Shattuck-Hufnagel outline a number of arguments in favour of an alternative to the Articulatory Phonology/Task Dynamics model. They demonstrate that a different framework is needed to account for evidence from speech and non-speech timing behaviour, and specifically that three separate planning components must be posited: Phonological Planning, Phonetic Planning, and Motor-Sensory Implementation. The approach proposed in the book provides a clearer and more comprehensive account of what is known about motor timing in general and speech timing in particular. It will be of interest to phoneticians and phonologists from all theoretical backgrounds as well as to speech clinicians and technologists.

Download or read book Rigged written by David Shimer and published by Vintage. This book was released on 2021-10-05 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The definitive history of the covert struggle between Russia and America to influence elections, why the threat to American democracy is greater than ever, and what we can do about it. This is "the first book to put the story of Russian interference into a broader context.... Extraordinary and gripping" (The New York Times Book Review). Russia's interference in the 2016 elections marked only the latest chapter of a hidden and revelatory history. In Rigged, David Shimer tells the sweeping story of covert electoral interference past and present. He exposes decades of secret operations—by the KGB, the CIA, and Vladimir Putin's Russia—to shape electoral outcomes, melding deep historical research with groundbreaking interviews with more than 130 key players, from leading officials in both the Trump and Obama administrations to CIA and NSA directors to a former KGB general. Throughout history and in 2016, both Russian and American operations achieved their greatest success by influencing the way voters think, rather than tampering with actual vote tallies. Understanding 2016 as one battle in a much longer war is essential to comprehending the critical threat currently posed to America's electoral sovereignty and how to defend against it. Illuminating how the lessons of the past can be used to protect our democracy in the future, Rigged is an essential book for readers of every political persuasion.
