It is commonly a positive assessment of many elements of the physical and human environment (e.g. ecosystems and landscapes, monuments, customs, gender norms, religious practices, gastronomy, and livelihoods). Heritage and tourism are strongly related to each other in that heritage gives rise to tourist attractions and activities, and tourism enhances the designation of heritage sites. A post-humanist perspective the moral valuation of equality between humans and other animals demands that both are sentient beings and self-aware of their pain and pleasure. Thus, the involvement of animals as heritage elements by themselves or as an element of tourist consumption in heritage sites implies their commodification and lack of agency. As such, these practices are usually unethical, since they threaten the animals' primary interests: not to suffer, not to feel pain and to be able to live their freedom. This book contains chapters that reveal both the unethical interactions between humans and animals within heritage tourism, and those that show experiences in which efforts are made to minimize damage within the commercialization of animals involved as heritage themselves.

They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not be weary, they will walk and not be faint.(Isaiah 40:31 KJV)The eagle is a majestic bird that represents inspiration and courage. According to my research, it is the only bird that will not try to avoid a storm. Though eagles don't seek out a storm, when one occurs, they hang on until they can soar above it.It occurs to me that some people are like eagles. It isn't that they have no storms or difficulties in their lives; all of us do. What makes them “eagle people” is their tenacious hold on hope. When a storm comes, instead of worrying, they draw upon the inner resources that come from faith to rise above the storm and soar.In this book, we will explore the resources available to us as Christians when storms suddenly appear upon our horizons. Among these resources are the Bible, the revealed Word of God; prayer; worship; and the example and encouragement of Christian friends, family members, co-workers, and neighbors. When we use these God-given resources, we too can “soar like an eagle”!—adapted from the introductionEach chapter includes a key Scripture verse, personal stories and anecdotes, practical and spiritual insights for inspiration and encouragement in weathering the storms of life, and questions for reflection or discussion. Some chapters also include “An Eagle Challenge”—a specific suggestion for implementing a particular principle in your life.

Robert James Challenger's illustrations and tales reveal a world of magical birds, fish and other wildlife, who teach readers lessons about life and the world. Seal shows us why we should not let fear of failing stop us from trying new things. Hummingbird helps us appreciate the beauty in our world. Kingfisher teaches us how to believe in ourselves. Coho learns the rewards of not giving up. Discover why a river's spirit stones are important to Salmon, why we should listen carefully to the message in Wolf's cry, and why Orca tries to turn rocks into grains of sand. As appealing to parents and teachers as they are to children, Jim Challenger's stories convey beautifully the merits of watching, listening to and respecting our natural world.

The book discusses issues such as the concept and theory of subcultures, the life of delinquent gangs, and the English experience of delinquent subcultures. It also takes an in-depth look at the Stepney and Poplar survey on crime from 1960, analysing both statistical data and more informal observations. Although the book was written over forty years ago, the issues discussed remain relevant and strong areas of interest.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On Friday, October 7, 1977, the Philadelphia Phillies experienced some of the highest highs and lowest lows in their then 94-year history--all within the span of a single grey afternoon. An afternoon that turned so dark so fast that Phils fans would refer to it forever after as Black Friday. Following a 1976 season in which the perennial laughingstock of a franchise won 101 games, the '77 Phillies had been even better. With a lineup that featured Mike Schmidt and Greg Luzinski in their primes, a rotation anchored by Steve Carlton, and perhaps the deepest bench and bullpen in baseball history, these Phillies took a back seat to nobody. So when they faced Los Angeles in the NLCS, few thought the Dodgers stood much of a chance. After splitting the first two games of the five-game series in LA, the clubs arrived at Veterans Stadium that afternoon with Phillies fans anticipating a coronation. And after jeering a jittery Burt Hooton off the mound and watching their Phils take a 5-3 lead into the ninth, everything was going according to plan. Until it wasn't. Within ten minutes everything had spectacularly imploded. Even now, four decades later, Phillies fans debate just how and why it all went so wrong so suddenly. The Ten-Minute Collapse: Black Friday and the Fall of the 1977 Phillies transports you back to that October afternoon and parks you behind the plate at the Vet where you can experience it all as if you were there for every exhilarating, exasperating moment.

Bleak, rainy and full of vicious savages, Britannia is a land that Cato, solider of the Second Legion, wishes Rome didn't want to conquer. But the Britons are fighting back with Roman weapons - which means someone in their own ranks is supplying arms to the enemy. Cato and Macro are about to discover even deadlier adversaries than the British barbarians...

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Eagles are among the most impressive hunters of the animal world. Their predatory prowess and flying skills have imbued them with a romance and mystique that runs deep in our culture and has elevated them to emblems of freedom and power across the globe. At the same time, however, people have long seen eagles as competitors. Reviled by farmers and gamekeepers as snatchers of livestock, many species have been driven into decline by persecution and disturbance. Two species of eagle occur in Britain - among 60 worldwide - and are the focus of this book. The regal Golden Eagle is the definitive 'true' eagle and occurs in wilderness areas across the northern hemisphere; the even larger White-tailed Eagle, reintroduced to the UK after historic extinction, belongs to the separate 'sea eagles' genus. These two spectacular birds are both very rare – confined largely to the remote Scottish Highlands – and a sighting of either is one of the UK's most exciting and sought-after wildlife experiences. This highly readable study looks separately at both UK eagles, exploring how each is adapted as an apex predator in its own environment, and explores the relationship between the two. Separate chapters cover all aspects of the birds' biology and lifestyle, from defending their vast territories to raising their young. Fascinating secrets are revealed, including the brutal truth behind 'Cain and Abel' syndrome. The book also takes a look at other eagles around the world, placing the two UK species within this broader context. Finally, it examines the complex relationship that humans have enjoyed with eagles since time immemorial, spanning both culture and conservation, and offers expert tips on where and how you can watch these magnificent birds for yourself. The Spotlight series introduces readers to the lives and behaviours of our favourite animals with eye-catching, colour photography and informative expert text.
