Download or read book Deregulation and Efficiency of Indian Banks written by Sunil Kumar and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-10-23 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The goal of this book is to assess the efficacy of India’s financial deregulation programme by analyzing the developments in cost efficiency and total factor productivity growth across different ownership types and size classes in the banking sector over the post-deregulation years. The work also gauges the impact of inclusion or exclusion of a proxy for non-traditional activities on the cost efficiency estimates for Indian banks, and ranking of distinct ownership groups. It also investigates the hitherto neglected aspect of the nature of returns-to-scale in the Indian banking industry. In addition, the work explores the key bank-specific factors that explain the inter-bank variations in efficiency and productivity growth. Overall, the empirical results of this work allow us to ascertain whether the gradualist approach to reforming the banking system in a developing economy like India has yielded the most significant policy goal of achieving efficiency and productivity gains. The authors believe that the findings of this book could give useful policy directions and suggestions to other developing economies that have embarked on a deregulation path or are contemplating doing so.

This book was released on 2013 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In service sector, Organization culture refers to social control mechanisms which are used as a I mechanism to control people performance and service quality. It is a non purchasable capability which is in constant state of dynamism. To manage this capability, organizations need to have a clear understanding of not only their culture but culture of other organizations in their industry. Considering the heterogeneity of resources across organizations it has become important for organizations to understand the variables that can help them gain differential competitive advantage over the competitors by looking inside rather than outside. These implications of culture for organizations are discussed. The study explores the controllable nature of the Organization culture by using Indian banking sector as a case study. A sample of 100 managers responded to the questionnaire which simulated organizational scenario involving members' interactions with their faith and passion; discipline, belief and focus for their colleagues, top management and their subordinates. The questionnaire used by Chatman and Jehn in 1994 was used for this study. A T test across ownership highlighted heterogeneity of resources and indicated the difference in cultural dynamics across ownership in Indian Banks.

Book Synopsis New Dimensions of Indian Banking by : Ramashish Purvey
Download or read book New Dimensions of Indian Banking written by Ramashish Purvey and published by Serials Publications. This book was released on 2010 with total page 604 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A well-sequenced and calibrated process of financial sector reforms introduced in the early 1990s has resulted in a competitive and resilient banking sector. The` total business` (deposits plus credit) of the Indian banking industry has gone up by more than seven times. Fifteen years of financial sector reforms have strengthened the bank`s balance sheet considerably. The `gross non-performing loans (GNPL) percentage` for banks in India have declined sharply from 15.7 per cent in 1996-97 to 2.7 per cent in 2006-07. The average` capital adequacy ratio` of the scheduled commercial banks stood at the healthy level of 12.3 per cent in 2006-07 (as against the regulatory minimum of9.0 per cent) despite a sharp upturn in the credit growth cycle during the last three years. IT has almost completely changed the look and feel of banking. A significant development in this regard is the adoption of Core Banking Solutions (CBS) by banks. The core activities, presently being outsourced by Indian Banks include hardware and software maintenance, hosting, management of data center operations, application support, disaster recovery facilities, management and monitoring, maintenance and management of ATM`s. Some of its emerging opportunities exist in areas of e-banking initiatives, e-commerce outsourcing, complete outsourcing of the IT function and outsourcing the entire ATM set-up and operation to a third party. Sin1ilarly, there is need to develop some visions for bank mergers and acquisition. At present, in India, most of the mergers in banking are based on expediency and to save some banks. In the emerging market scenario for survival and growth, it is critical for a bank to align its vision, mission, goals and for more and more interaction with customers to build customer relationship banking. The book will meet the growing interest of students, researchers, scholars, policy makers and general readers.
