Book Synopsis From Classical to Quantum Fields by : Laurent Baulieu
Download or read book From Classical to Quantum Fields written by Laurent Baulieu and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2017 with total page 951 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Quantum Field Theory has become the universal language of most modern theoretical physics. This introductory textbook shows how this beautiful theory offers the correct mathematical framework to describe and understand the fundamental interactions of elementary particles. The book begins with a brief reminder of basic classical field theories, electrodynamics and general relativity, as well as their symmetry properties, and proceeds with the principles of quantisation following Feynman's path integral approach. Special care is used at every step to illustrate the correct mathematical formulation of the underlying assumptions. Gauge theories and the problems encountered in their quantisation are discussed in detail. The last chapters contain a full description of the Standard Model of particle physics and the attempts to go beyond it, such as grand unified theories and supersymmetry. Written for advanced undergraduate and beginning graduate students in physics and mathematics, the book could also serve as a reference for active researchers in the field.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Geometrical notions and methods play an important role in both classical and quantum field theory, and a connection is a deep structure which apparently underlies the gauge-theoretical models in field theory and mechanics. This book is an encyclopaedia of modern geometric methods in theoretical physics. It collects together the basic mathematical facts about various types of connections, and provides a detailed exposition of relevant physical applications. It discusses the modern issues concerning the gauge theories of fundamental fields. The authors have tried to give all the necessary mathematical background, thus making the book self-contained.This book should be useful to graduate students, physicists and mathematicians who are interested in the issue of deep interrelations between theoretical physics and geometry.
Book Synopsis Classical Dynamics by : E C G Sudarshan
Download or read book Classical Dynamics written by E C G Sudarshan and published by World Scientific Publishing Company. This book was released on 2015-10-08 with total page 612 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Classical dynamics is traditionally treated as an early stage in the development of physics, a stage that has long been superseded by more ambitious theories. Here, in this book, classical dynamics is treated as a subject on its own as well as a research frontier. Incorporating insights gained over the past several decades, the essential principles of classical dynamics are presented, while demonstrating that a number of key results originally considered only in the context of quantum theory and particle physics, have their foundations in classical dynamics. Graduate students in physics and practicing physicists will welcome the present approach to classical dynamics that encompasses systems of particles, free and interacting fields, and coupled systems. Lie groups and Lie algebras are incorporated at a basic level and are used in describing space-time symmetry groups. There is an extensive discussion on constrained systems, Dirac brackets and their geometrical interpretation. The Lie-algebraic description of dynamical systems is discussed in detail, and Poisson brackets are developed as a realization of Lie brackets. Other topics include treatments of classical spin, elementary relativistic systems in the classical context, irreducible realizations of the Galileo and Poincaré groups, and hydrodynamics as a Galilean field theory. Students will also find that this approach that deals with problems of manifest covariance, the no-interaction theorem in Hamiltonian mechanics and the structure of action-at-a-distance theories provides all the essential preparatory groundwork for a passage to quantum field theory. This reprinting of the original text published in 1974 is a testimony to the vitality of the contents that has remained relevant over nearly half a century.

Book Synopsis Coherent Quantum Physics by : Arnold Neumaier
Download or read book Coherent Quantum Physics written by Arnold Neumaier and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2019-10-21 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces mathematicians, physicists, and philosophers to a new, coherent approach to theory and interpretation of quantum physics, in which classical and quantum thinking live peacefully side by side and jointly fertilize the intuition. The formal, mathematical core of quantum physics is cleanly separated from the interpretation issues. The book demonstrates that the universe can be rationally and objectively understood from the smallest to the largest levels of modeling. The thermal interpretation featured in this book succeeds without any change in the theory. It involves one radical step, the reinterpretation of an assumption that was virtually never questioned before - the traditional eigenvalue link between theory and observation is replaced by a q-expectation link: Objective properties are given by q-expectations of products of quantum fields and what is computable from these. Averaging over macroscopic spacetime regions produces macroscopic quantities with negligible uncertainty, and leads to classical physics. - Reflects the actual practice of quantum physics. - Models the quantum-classical interface through coherent spaces. - Interprets both quantum mechanics and quantum field theory. - Eliminates probability and measurement from the foundations. - Proposes a novel solution of the measurement problem.

Book Synopsis Nonperturbative Quantum Field Theory and the Structure of Matter by : T. Borne
Download or read book Nonperturbative Quantum Field Theory and the Structure of Matter written by T. Borne and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2001-11-30 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, which presents a new view of quantum field theory, may serve as a research monograph and an alternative textbook examining topics which are not usually treated in conventional works. The first part contains a new nonperturbative regularization and probability interpretation, as well as a new treatment of effective dynamics for quantum fields based on algebraic representation theory in functional spaces. In the second part these methods are applied to selected topics in high energy physics. In a generalization of de Broglie's fusion theory, gauge bosons and fermions are considered as composites and the basic dynamics of the electro-weak sector of the standard model is derived as an effective theory from a regularized spinor fields model. Linear gravity is discussed in the same way. Audience: This volume will appeal to researchers concerned with the foundation of the theory of matter and forces including gravitation. It will also be of interest to those working with quantum field theoretic methods in various disciplines, such as particle physics, nuclear physics, condensed matter physics, and relativity.

Download or read book Classical and Quantum Physics written by G. Marmo and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-10-26 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This proceedings is based on the interdisciplinary workshop held in Madrid, 5-9 March 2018, dedicated to Alberto Ibort on his 60th birthday. Alberto has great and significantly contributed to many fields of mathematics and physics, always with highly original and innovative ideas. Most of Albertos’s scientific activity has been motivated by geometric ideas, concepts and tools that are deeply related to the framework of classical dynamics and quantum mechanics.Let us mention some of the fields of expertise of Alberto Ibort:Geometric Mechanics; Constrained Systems; Variational Principles; Multisymplectic structures for field theories; Super manifolds; Inverse problem for Bosonic and Fermionic systems; Quantum Groups, Integrable systems, BRST Symmetries; Implicit differential equations; Yang-Mills Theories; BiHamiltonian Systems; Topology Change and Quantum Boundary Conditions; Classical and Quantum Control; Orthogonal Polynomials; Quantum Field Theory and Noncommutative Spaces; Classical and Quantum Tomography; Quantum Mechanics on phase space; Wigner-Weyl formalism; Lie-Jordan Algebras, Classical and Quantum; Quantum-to-Classical transition; Contraction of Associative Algebras; contact geometry, among many others. In each contribution, one may find not only technical novelties but also completely new way of looking at the considered problems. Even an experienced reader, reading Alberto's contributions on his field of expertise, will find new perspectives on the considered topic. His enthusiasm is happily contagious, for this reason he has had, and still has, very bright students wishing to elaborate their PhD thesis under his guidance. What is more impressive, is the broad list of rather different topics on which he has contributed.
Book Synopsis Particles and Quantum Fields by : Hagen Kleinert
Download or read book Particles and Quantum Fields written by Hagen Kleinert and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2016-05-30 with total page 1628 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is an introductory book on elementary particles and their interactions. It starts out with many-body Schrödinger theory and second quantization and leads, via its generalization, to relativistic fields of various spins and to gravity. The text begins with the best known quantum field theory so far, the quantum electrodynamics of photon and electrons (QED). It continues by developing the theory of strong interactions between the elementary constituents of matter (quarks). This is possible due to the property called asymptotic freedom. On the way one has to tackle the problem of removing various infinities by renormalization. The divergent sums of infinitely many diagrams are performed with the renormalization group or by variational perturbation theory (VPT). The latter is an outcome of the Feynman-Kleinert variational approach to path integrals discussed in two earlier books of the author, one representing a comprehensive treatise on path integrals, the other dealing with critial phenomena. Unlike ordinary perturbation theory, VPT produces uniformly convergent series which are valid from weak to strong couplings, where they describe critical phenomena. The present book develops the theory of effective actions which allow to treat quantum phenomena with classical formalism. For example, it derives the observed anomalous power laws of strongly interacting theories from an extremum of the action. Their fluctuations are not based on Gaussian distributions, as in the perturbative treatment of quantum field theories, or in asymptotically-free theories, but on deviations from the average which are much larger and which obey power-like distributions. Exactly solvable models are discussed and their physical properties are compared with those derived from general methods. In the last chapter we discuss the problem of quantizing the classical theory of gravity.
