Book Synopsis Analysis of Pile Foundations Subject to Static and Dynamic Loading by : Amir M. Kaynia
Download or read book Analysis of Pile Foundations Subject to Static and Dynamic Loading written by Amir M. Kaynia and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2021-08-30 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents computational tools and design principles for piles used in a wide range of applications and for different loading conditions. The chapters provide a mixture of basic engineering solutions and latest research findings in a balanced manner. The chapters are written by world-renowned experts in the field. The materials are presented in a unified manner based on both simplified and rigorous numerical methods. The first four chapters present the basic elements and steps in analysis of piles under static and cyclic loading together with clear references to the appropriate design regulations in Eurocode 7 when relevant. The analysis techniques cover conventional code-based methods, solutions based on pile-soil interaction springs, and advanced 3D finite element methods. The applications range from conventional piles to large circular steel piles used as anchors or monopiles in offshore applications. Chapters 5 to 10 are devoted to dynamic and earthquake analyses and design. These chapters cover a range of solutions from dynamic pile-soil springs to elasto-dynamic solutions of large pile groups. Both linear and nonlinear soil behaviours are considered along with response due to dynamic loads and earthquake shaking including possible liquefaction. The book is unique in its unified treatment of the solutions used for static and dynamic analysis of piles with practical examples of application. The book is considered a valuable tool for practicing engineers, graduate students and researchers.

Book Synopsis A Model Study of Dynamically Loaded Square Footings on Dry Sand by : Jack K. Poplin

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The investigation reported herein was undertaken to develop an approach to modeling displacements of surface and shallow-buried footings on dry sand subject to high-intensity, single-pulse loads. A hypothetical shallow-bured structure with an isolated footing loaded by airblast overpressure produced by detonation of a nuclear weapon was assumed for design of load pulses on nine model footings used: footing widths of 4.5, 6.0, and 7.5 in. and depth-of-burial to footing width ratios of 0, 0.5, and 1.0. The principles of similitude were used to scale length, force, and time in the models. The models were placed in mobile test bins of uniform, fine, dry sand (90 percent relative density) and subjected to dynamic and static loading. Nondimensional load-displacement relations dependent only on depth-of-burial ratio were developed relating maximum displacement to peak dynamic load, footing width, and soil shear strength gradient. When the dynamic response of the footings in the form of reaction-displacement curves was compared with static response, an increase in initial stiffness and ultimate strength was observed for dynamic loading. However, these dynamic increases were greatest when the static shear strength was lowest, i.e. footings on the surface, and were least for footings buried at a depth equal to its width where the static overburden produced a substantial increase in shear strength. Book Synopsis Dynamic Loading and Design of Structures by : Andreas Kappos
Download or read book Dynamic Loading and Design of Structures written by Andreas Kappos and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2001-10-11 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Until now, information on the dynamic loading of structures has been widely scattered. No other book has examined the different types of loading in a comprehensive and systematic manner, and looked at their signficance in the design process. The book begins with a survey of the probabilistic background to all forms of loads, which is particularly important to dynamic loads, and then looks at the main types in turn: wind, earthquake, wave, blast and impact loading. The relevant code provisions (Eurocode and UBC American) are detailed and a number of examples are used to illustrate the principles. A final section covers the analysis for dynamic loading, drawing out the concepts underlying the treatment of all dynamic loads, and the corresponding modelling techniques. Throughout there is a focus on the modelling of structures, rather than on classical structural dynamics.

Book Synopsis Analysis of Structures on Elastic Foundation by : Levon G. Petrosian
Download or read book Analysis of Structures on Elastic Foundation written by Levon G. Petrosian and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2022-06-13 with total page 377 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is devoted to the static and dynamic analysis of structures on elastic foundation. Through comprehensive analysis, the book shows analytical and mechanical relationships among classic and modern methods of solving boundary value problems. The book provides a wide spectrum of applications of modern techniques and methods of calculation of static and dynamic problems of engineering design. It pursues both methodological and practical purposes, and the accounting of all methods is accompanied by solutions of the specific problems, which are not merely illustrative in nature but may represent an independent interest in the study of various technical issues. Two special features of the book are the extensive use of the generalized functions for describing the impacts on structures and the substantiations of the methods of the apparatus of the generalized functions. The book illustrates modern methods for solving boundary-value problems of structural mechanics and soil mechanics based on the application of boundary equations. The book presents the philosophy of boundary equations and boundary element methods. A number of examples of solving different problems of static and dynamic calculation of structures on an elastic foundation are given according to the methods presented in the book. Introduces a general approach to the method of integral transforms based on the spectral theory of the linear differential operators. The Spectral Method of Boundary Element (SMBE) is developed based on using integral transforms with an orthogonal kernel in the extended domain. Presents a new, versatile foundation model with a number of advantages over the ground-based models currently used in practical calculations. Provides new transforms which will aid in solving various problems relevant to bars, beams, plates, and shells in particular for the structures on elastic foundation. Examines the methods of solving boundary-value problems typical for structural mechanics and related fields.

Book Synopsis Seismicity and Seismic Risk in the Offshore North Sea Area by : A.R. Ritsema
Download or read book Seismicity and Seismic Risk in the Offshore North Sea Area written by A.R. Ritsema and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 423 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Workshop on the Seismicity and Seismic Risk in the Off shore North Sea Area was intended to bring together experts from a variety of disciplines as well as interest groups with involve ment in siting, design and construction of offshore structures in the region. Participants came from the fields of geology, seismology, oceanography, geotechnical and structural engineering and risk analysis. The wide range of participant affiliations included institutes, Observatories, universities, oil companies, consultants and insurance firms. All nationalities around the North Sea were present, in addition to some experts from outside the region. All participants were present on the basis of personal invitation. The idea of organizing the Workshop stemmed from conside- tions, such as: the rapidly increasing material and personel investments and versatility of type of structures in the basin.during the past decade; - the present-day important role Jf the North Sea oil and gas production in the economy of Western Europe; and - the increase of potential environmental risks in the region. Although devastating earthquakes are almost unknown in the area and seismic hazard is not great, the seismic risk grows with the growing size and number of structures in the area. The study of the potential seismic risks, therefore, cannot be neglected any more. The siting and design of offshore platforms and submarine pipelines are controlled by the degree of their vulnerability as well as the seismic hazard. in the region.
