Book Synopsis Experimental and Numerical Stability Investigations on Natural Circulation Boiling Water Reactors by : Christian Pablo Marcel
Download or read book Experimental and Numerical Stability Investigations on Natural Circulation Boiling Water Reactors written by Christian Pablo Marcel and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 2007 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the design of novel nuclear reactors active systems are replaced by passive ones in order to reduce the risk of failure. For that reason natural circulation is being considered as the primary cooling mechanism in next generation nuclear reactor designs such as the natural circulation boiling water reactor (BWR). In such a reactor, however, the flow is not a controlled parameter but is dependent on the power. As a result, the dynamical behavior significantly differs from that in conventional forced circulation BWRs. For that reason, predicting the stability characteristics of these reactors has to be carefully studied. In this work, a number of open issues are investigated regarding the stability of natural circulation BWRs (e.g. margins to instabilities at rated conditions, interaction between the thermal-hydraulics and the neutronics, and the occurrence of flashing induced instabilities) with a strong emphasis on experimental evidence.

Book Synopsis Dynamic Analysis of Coolant Circulation in Boiling Water Nuclear Reactors by : Chathilingath K. Sanathanan
Download or read book Dynamic Analysis of Coolant Circulation in Boiling Water Nuclear Reactors written by Chathilingath K. Sanathanan and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The dynamics of two-phase flow through the coolant channels of a natural-circulation boiling water nuclear reactor is studied analytically. One-dimensional conservation equations describing the flow through each channel are written in a linearized perturbed form, and Laplace transformation in time is performed. A systematic procedure is developed to approximate the solution. The solution may be oscillatory both in time and space, and the stability depends largely upon the steady-state profile of velocity and void fraction along the channel, as well as the channel length. The simplifying assumption made by earlier investigators that the slip ratio is constant along the channel length is shown to yield results close to the true solution.

Download or read book Dynamic Behavior of Boiling Reactors written by J. A. Thie and published by . This book was released on 1959 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Theoretical analysis of these reactors' kinetic behavior, based on a simple model where steam void feedbacks dominate, shows an adequate understanding of many of the phenomena, some even quantitatively. It is concluded that it is possible within the framework of existing experimental and theoretical boiling reactor dynamic technology, to design these reactors with reduced instability limitations on the power, and obtain power densities in excess of the current 50 kilowatts/liter of core.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dynamics and Control of Nuclear Reactors presents the latest knowledge and research in reactor dynamics, control and instrumentation; important factors in ensuring the safe and economic operation of nuclear power plants. This book provides current and future engineers with a single resource containing all relevant information, including detailed treatments on the modeling, simulation, operational features and dynamic characteristics of pressurized light-water reactors, boiling light-water reactors, pressurized heavy-water reactors and molten-salt reactors. It also provides pertinent, but less detailed information on small modular reactors, sodium fast reactors, and gas-cooled reactors. Provides case studies and examples to demonstrate learning through problem solving, including an analysis of accidents at Three Mile Island, Chernobyl and Fukushima Daiichi Includes MATLAB codes to enable the reader to apply the knowledge gained to their own projects and research Features examples and problems that illustrate the principles of dynamic analysis as well as the mathematical tools necessary to understand and apply the analysis Publishers Note: Table 3.1 has been revised and will be included in future printings of the book with the following data: Group Decay Constant, li (sec-1) Delayed Neutron Fraction (bi) 1 0.0124 0.000221 2 0.0305 0.001467 3 0.111 0.001313 4 0.301 0.002647 5 1.14 0.000771 6 3.01 0.000281 Total delayed neutron fraction: 0.0067
