Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tom W poszukiwaniu nowych rozwiązań.

Book Synopsis Refugees, Conflict and the Search for Belonging by : Lucy Hovil
Download or read book Refugees, Conflict and the Search for Belonging written by Lucy Hovil and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-08-30 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about the convergence of two problems: the ongoing realities of conflict and forced migration in Africa’s Great Lakes region, and the crisis of citizenship and belonging. By bringing them together, the intention is to see how, combined, they can help point the way towards possible solutions. Based on 1,115 interviews conducted over 6 years in the region, the book points to ways in which refugees challenge the parameters of citizenship and belonging as they carve out spaces for inclusion in the localities in which they live. Yet with a policy environment that often leads to marginalisation, the book highlights the need for policies that pull people into the centre rather than polarise and exclude; and that draw on, rather than negate, the creativity that refugees demonstrate in their quest to forge spaces of belonging.

Book Synopsis Arabic as One Language by : Mahmoud Al-Batal
Download or read book Arabic as One Language written by Mahmoud Al-Batal and published by Georgetown University Press. This book was released on 2017-12-04 with total page 339 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For decades, students learning the Arabic language have begun with Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) and then transitioned to learning spoken Arabic. While the MSA-first approach neither reflects the sociolinguistic reality of the language nor gives students the communicative skills required to fully function in Arabic, the field continues to debate the widespread adoption of this approach. Little research or evidence has been presented about the effectiveness of integrating dialect in the curriculum. With the recent publication of textbooks that integrate dialect in the Arabic curriculum, however, a more systematic analysis of such integration is clearly becoming necessary. In this seminal volume, Mahmoud Al-Batal gathers key scholars who have implemented integration to present data and research on the method’s success. The studies address curricular models, students' outcomes, and attitudes of students and teachers using integration in their curricula. This volume is an essential resource for all teachers of Arabic language and those working in Teaching Arabic as a Foreign Language (TAFL).

Book Synopsis The Feature Structure of Functional Categories by : Elabbas Benmamoun
Download or read book The Feature Structure of Functional Categories written by Elabbas Benmamoun and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 2000 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Focusing on the relation between functional categories and lexical and phrasal categories in Arabic dialects, Benmamoun proposes that universally functional categories are specified for categorial features which determine their relation with lexical categories. Language variation is attributed to differences with respect to the categorial feature specifications of functional categories and how they interact with lexical categories. The book brings new insights to issues related to the syntax of functional categories, the relation between syntax and the morpho-phonological component, and comparative syntax.
