Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is it that makes a person dream and come up with some of the wildest stories one can dare tell to a husband, wife, friend, or stranger? First of all, are they funny stories or scary stories? Are they stories anyone would dare to believe? Are they stories that ordinary people would really like to hear about or read about? And what in the world created such funny or unbelievable stories? Was it stress, or was it insomnia? Or are we just natural dreamers? My stories probably come to me from having too much time in my hands and thinking too much. The following stories probably came to me as dreams when I was doing a lot of daydreaming back in the seventies. At the time, I was pulling my weight while working at White’s Auto Store warehouse in the small town of Shallowater, Texas. I was a certified forklift driver pulling orders, license, and all. I worked in what was called Area 8. I pulled the big boxed toys, bicycles, and lawn mowers. I also pulled the fertilizer bag orders. Working inside a warehouse had many disadvantages. There was always dust all over the place. The warehouse was always hot in summer and pretty cold in winter. Many times when it was slow, I would let my mind just wander off into oblivion. That’s when my stories were born and began to take shape. Characters and names of characters would pop into my mind out of nowhere.

Book excerpt: In addition to providing a good stock of enjoyment and entertainment, the present book analyses and expresses what we see and feel around us, and brings before us a new world different from our own. It brings before us a pleasing and surprising revelation of some truth or beauty which generally goes unnoticed in life until some sensitive soul brings it to our attention making us feel it. It's here my honest effort to bring it before the readers in beautiful and coloured words expressing my observations and experiences of life with the hope that my learned and sagacious readers will view and evaluate it justly and impartially.

Book excerpt: Longarm GIANT novels…the biggest and best in Western adventure! Down in the driest parts of the southwest, gals are scarcer than water—and some men, crazy from lust and the scorching sun, have sent away for mail-order brides. But when the womenfolk never show, these hombres want answers. Some claim the Mormons are kidnapping the ladies for their polygamous beds. Others say it’s the Turks. So they hire on gunslinger Custis Long to do what he does second-best: skirt-chasing. After making his way up the Old Spanish Trail and snooping around some, he learns that this time, it’s the women who’re in the know—Mexican barmaids, Mormon girls, squaw sisters, a Spanish widow—all willing to give Longarm his answers. That is, in return for the French lessons that have made him famous clear across the Old West…

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Please meet Si, the cat. This book is the story of a cats journey from Ann Arbor, Michigan, to Los Angeles, California. The 2, 200 mile journey is written from Sis perspective, including the interaction with his owner. Now deceased, Si was a twelve-year-old blue-point Siamese cat. He was playful, stubborn, smart, and talked a lot, and sometimes even a little bit like us two-legged creatures. Si had two favorite ways to pass his days, to sleep and to spend as much time with his human friend when she was home. His human friends name is Andrea. Sometimes Si would love to check out what Andrea was doing, even if that meant opening the blinds with his paws to see what was happening on the other side. Another activity Si loved was to travel in the car even though he really disliked the long hours. Looking out the windows he wondered what was ahead, what came next, and his human friend could observe that intense attention paid by her cat to the changing scenery. Indeed, Si trusted his owner with everything to keep him safe. Cats quite possibly have an inner voice that speaks to them just like human voices speak to us. These voices could propel them into action, what to do next, when to eat, where to sleep and perhaps even what toys to play with. Si oftentimes made such decisions (or so it seemed to his human friend): whether to bug her for playtime or to come running when he heard the car keys jingling. This book is about one of Sis adventures, an activity that started when his human friend Andrea grabbed those car keys for a long trip across the Unites States.

Book excerpt: Roger King and Russell Queen died under mysterious circumstances during a bitter labor dispute between the labor union and the railroad company's scab workers. The King and Queen families each believed that their loved one had been murdered by the other. For that reason, the surviving Kings and Queens vowed to maintain the strike's de facto feud in their Railroad Street neighborhood. Both Ben Knight and wife Clara lost their health while Vince, the youngest of their ten children was still in diapers. As a consequence the frail sickly child was being raised by siblings. Vince's preteen years were spent in an isolated area of Eastern North Carolina. There, according to Ben, his youngest son had been spoiled, pampered and doted upon almost to the point of ruination. Increasing medical bills and the prospect of better paying jobs caused the family of Knights to move to a tough inner city neighborhood during the winter of 1940. Ben Knight believed that Railroad Street's toughness was exactly what his youngest son needed to shape him into a a real man. Ben rightly predicted that book worms and sissy pants would be hard to find in a tough neighborhood like Railroad Street. That prediction turned out to be correct. To Ben Knight's horror, however, mothers from both sides of the "Royal Feud" fell in love with his son because he possessed those exact didactic characteristics. Historians claim that during World War II, America became more united than at any other time; before or since. It turned out that a mere mortal held a secret that could turn Railroad Street into an analogous part of America's most memorable era. However, only divine intervention was going to convince Ben Knight that his son had become the tenth star in his heavenly crown.

The contributing authors illustrate the empowerment, confidence, and self-esteem women can derive from adventure and experiential activities. This is the first book of its kind devoted to the symbolic value of wilderness accomplishments to women's mental health. Wilderness Therapy for Women unites women with nature and each other by lifting the social constraints surrounding women in adventure pursuits. It offers women a new method of healing while developing an appreciation for the uniqueness of the environment. Daring experiences in the outdoors rekindles a sense of strength and a respect for the provider of that strength. A therapeutic experience from the outdoors provides women with an awareness of their capabilities to strengthen and preserve themselves and their surroundings. This book is divided into four parts: Theoretical Perspectives, Wilderness Therapy in Action, Special Populations, and Personal Narratives. Readers will find many topics of interest including: Body image and wilderness therapy The therapeutic value of the wilderness Ethical considerations of experiential therapy Ropes courses for women All-women's river trips Special populations: rape and incest survivors, welfare mothers, and mid-life women. Intended as a guide book, Wilderness Therapy for Women is ideal for mental health professionals who are either practicing wilderness therapy or merely inquisitive about it. Outfitters and professional outdoor leaders will benefit from chapters on theory, applications, and special populations. Outdoor program administrators and educators who must remain on the cutting edge of their industry will also profit from this book.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Philip Larson began delivering newspapers in his hometown of Boone, Iowa, when he was ten years old. One afternoon while walking his paper route he looked up in the sky and noticed a narrow, white cloud developing behind an airplane. Although he had never seen a contrail before, he knew what it was. What he did not know is how the advancements in jet aircraft would revolutionize travel and enable a young Iowa paper carrier to one day explore all seven continents. He hiked, canoed, rode motorcycles, and traveled in automobiles, planes, trains, and ships. In a fascinating chronicling of his travels from 1969 to 2019, Philip Larson shares a glimpse into his global adventures as he journeyed from the frozen lakes of arctic Canada to the outback of Australia to the barren Namib desert of western Africa as well as many more destinations. As he leads other travel adventurers through his vast experiences, Larson details a frigid New Year’s Eve camping trip in northern Minnesota, an one-hundred and eighty-mile trek on the back trails of Nepal, a memorable campsite in Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula as a typhoon blew in from the Sea of Okhotsk, and much more. A Few Memorable Days is the travel log of an experienced adventurer as he explored the world over five decades in some of its most inaccessible places.
