Book Synopsis Freeze-Thaw Durability of Concrete by : J. Marchand
Download or read book Freeze-Thaw Durability of Concrete written by J. Marchand and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2004-03-01 with total page 323 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Concrete durability in climates where freezing and thawing occurs is a continuing problem. It is particularly acute for highway and bridge structures, where de-icing salts are used to combat the effects of frost, snow and ice. These salts can cause damage to concrete and accelerate corrosion of reinforcements. This book presents the latest international research on this area, with contributions from North America and Europe which were presented at an international RILEM workshop.

Book Synopsis Handbook of Alkali-Activated Cements, Mortars and Concretes by : F. Pacheco-Torgal
Download or read book Handbook of Alkali-Activated Cements, Mortars and Concretes written by F. Pacheco-Torgal and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-11-20 with total page 855 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an updated state-of-the-art review on new developments in alkali-activation. The main binder of concrete, Portland cement, represents almost 80% of the total CO2 emissions of concrete which are about 6 to 7% of the Planet’s total CO2 emissions. This is particularly serious in the current context of climate change and it could get even worse because the demand for Portland cement is expected to increase by almost 200% by 2050 from 2010 levels, reaching 6000 million tons/year. Alkali-activated binders represent an alternative to Portland cement having higher durability and a lower CO2 footprint. Reviews the chemistry, mix design, manufacture and properties of alkali-activated cement-based concrete binders Considers performance in adverse environmental conditions. Offers equal emphasis on the science behind the technology and its use in civil engineering.

Book Synopsis La resistance au gel des betons a haute performance by :
Download or read book La resistance au gel des betons a haute performance written by and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis Cement-Based Composites by : Andrzej M. Brandt
Download or read book Cement-Based Composites written by Andrzej M. Brandt and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2009-01-29 with total page 536 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cement-Based Composites takes a different approach from most other books in the field by viewing concrete as an advanced composite material, and by considering the properties and behaviour of cement-based materials from this stance. It deals particularly, but not exclusively, with newer forms of cement-based materials. This new edition takes a critical approach to the subject as well as presenting up-to-date knowledge. Emphasis is given to non-conventional reinforcement and design methods, problems at the materials' interfaces and to the durability of structures. High strength composites and novel forms of cement-based composites are described in detail. After a basic introduction the book explores the various components of these materials and their properties. It then deals with mechanical properties and considers characteristics under various loading and environmental conditions, and concludes by examining design, optimization and economics with particular emphasis on high-performance concretes. Researchers, graduate students and practising engineers will find this book valuable.
