This book was released on 2010 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Safe Operation and Maintenance of Dry Dock Facilities is the first manual of practice to provide guidance for the operation of four main types of dry dock facilities: floating dry docks, graving docks, marine railways, and vertical lifts. Until now, some of these facilities have been operated and maintained without a thorough understanding of the design of their dry dock, and therefore the features that are vital to the safe operation of the facility. This manual is intended for commercial entities that operate one of the four dry docks discussed in this book. It will provide a cost-effective program for maintaining and operating a safe dry dock facility. This book examines in depth the four activities necessary to achieving this which include: condition assessment, maintenance, control inspection, and dock operations.

Book Synopsis Assessment of Surface Ship Maintenance Requirements by : Robert Button
Download or read book Assessment of Surface Ship Maintenance Requirements written by Robert Button and published by Rand Corporation. This book was released on 2015 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Department of Defense is likely to face years of declining resources as the U.S. government grapples with fiscal challenges. These challenges affect every account, including those associated with surface ship maintenance and operations. At the same time, there has been widespread concern that surface ship materiel readiness is declining due to a high pace of operations and a sense that there have been many instances of deferred maintenance. The need to balance fiscal reality and a continued need for ready ships is likely to be an ongoing challenge. At the request of the Assessment Division of the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, this report: (1) determines the impact on long-term fleet readiness, Operational Availability (Ao), and Expected Service Life (ESL) caused by near-term reductions in Operations and Maintenance (O&M) accounts; (2) recommends potential strategies to minimize negative impacts to Ao and ESL and maintain the largest, most capable fleet possible; (3) develops a maintenance requirement concept, per ship class, that supports ESL, but allows for some risk within the maintenance strategy; and (4) defines the risks to Ao and ESL resulting from the new requirement. The methodology could be applicable to multiple ship classes.

Book Synopsis Ship Repair and Maintenance Handbook 2005 by : Dieter Mergner
Download or read book Ship Repair and Maintenance Handbook 2005 written by Dieter Mergner and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shipboard maintenance is still an area of weakness for many companies, with repair costs featuring heavily on budgets. There is no point in creating an expensive, computer-based maintenance system if onboard equipment/machinery is poorly maintained. Ships staff must always observe manufacturers' instructions for maintenance. The Ship Repair and Maintenance Handbook looks at the practical side of repair and maintenance, rather than reliance on computer-based instruction, to assist onboard and shore-based personnel in minimising problems and expensive repairs. It also emphasises the importance of investment in education, spare parts and regular inspection by superintendents.
