Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Every once in a while, I get a chance to listen to broadcasts on radio or watch networking on television. And, the more and more I do this, the more and more I get deeply concerned with the quality of so-called religious material presented on such via comments, discussions, lectures, preachings, teachings, etc. Every so often, it is spiritually impressed upon me (I get led) to deal with some of the monumental misunderstandings that menaces the messianic ministry, mission, momentum, motion, motive, and movement. There are two strategies/tactics/ways to deal with this type of teaching and preaching: one is defensive and one is offensive. The offensive tactic/strategy/way to guard against it is to constantly teach and preach against it, thereby exposing it for what it is and minimizing it, if not eliminating it - this is referred to as the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; the defensive tactic/strategy/way to guard against it is to block or prevent it from entering your mind by literally putting a spiritual device of some-sort over your mind - this is referred to as the helmet of salvation. The material presented in this book is just a way to help us fight defensively and offensively by first knowing what we need to fight against. As a side note, the state of apostasy of the professing church is the final stage of the religious order just prior to the Rapture, which is phase one of two of our Christ’s Second Coming. I strongly admonish and request that each believer in Jesus Christ adopt the same attitude and mentality that the church of Berea adopted in the word of God, especially when it comes to the word of God.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1664 Dr. Olaf van Schuler flees the Old World and arrives in New Amsterdam with his lunatic mother, two bags of medical implements, and a carefully guarded book of his own medicines. He is the first in what will become a long line of peculiar physicians. Plagued by madness and guided by an intense desire to cure human affliction, each generation of this unusual family is driven by the science of its day: spontaneous combustion, phrenology, animal magnetism, electrical shock treatment, psychosurgery, genetic research. As they make their way in the world, New York City, too, evolves—from the dark and rough days of the seventeenth century to the towering, frenetic metropolis of today. Like Patrick Süskind's classic novel Perfume, Kirsten Menger-Anderson's debut is a literary cabinet of curiosities—fascinating and unsettling, rich and utterly singular.

Book excerpt: SHE COULDN'T REMEMBER HER NAME, HER ADDRESS, HER FAMILY. NOT EVEN WHY SOMEONE WANTED HER DEAD-- WHO WAS SHE? SHE HAD LOST HER WALLET, HER IDENTITY--EVERYTHING EXCEPT THE CLOTHES ON HER BACK--AND HER LIFE. She awoke in a room she didn't remember, asleep on a bed she did not recognize, in a hotel she had never heard of, bruised and battered from an incident she couldn't recall. THEN HER LIFE TURNED COMPLICATED. Befriended by a truck driver who takes her under his wing, she sets about to rediscover--and reclaim--the life she's lost. But despite appearances, she's not really alone. Two men--one, a hardened killer; the other; a methodical, high-tech tracker--stalk her every move. Even Nick--the good Samaritan truck driver helping her--may not be all that he appears. LOCKED IN HER MIND IS A SECRET WORTH KILLING FOR-- AND WORTH LIVING FOR. More than anything, she wants her memory--and life--back. Others will stop at nothing to make sure she never remembers anything again. For though she does not know it, deep in her mind is buried a secret that threatens to bring down one of the richest men in the world. A secret that can shake governments to their very foundations. A secret that could lead to her destruction--or her salvation.

Packed with adventure and adversity—including a few terrifying brushes with death—Becoming Dr. Q is a testament to persistence, hard work, the power of hope and imagination, and the pursuit of excellence. It’s also a story about the importance of family, of mentors, and of giving people a chance.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Drawing on the latest findings from neuroscience, as well as cultural observation and her own unique laboratory research, psychologist Kelly Lambert puts forth a provocative new theory about the cause and treatment of depression. Today's young adults are up to ten times more likely to experience depression than their grandparents were. Could it be that in our increasingly automated world, the reduced physical effort needed to accomplish anything may somehow interfere with our level of happiness and subsequent responses to stress? Neuroscientist Kelly Lambert finds compelling evidence that having to work hard for rewards significantly improves mood and prevents depression. Beginning with her innovative research on rats - she compared ''trust-fund rats'' (whose rewards came with no effort on their part) to hard-working ''trained-to-succeed'' rodents - Lambert offers hope of treatment for people without debilitating (and often ineffective) drugs. Drawing on a wealth of information from the fields of anthropology, neuroscience, and evolutionary psychology, Lambert develops a unique theory suggesting that physical effort directed toward tangible outcomes activates particular regions of the brain and builds resilience against the emotional emptiness and negative thinking associated with depression. Whereas most therapies emphasize the importance of mental activity, Lambert reminds us of the importance of physical activity in establishing control in a fast-paced culture that is focused more on the prospect of immediate gratification than savoring the fruits of our labor.

Book excerpt: Cancer. Plant Explosion. Massive auto accident. All that and more, yet God still blessed him. How could anyone cope with everything and still come out shouting praise? Every time he turned around, there was a new test, a new trial. Will Jason be able to stay focused on God instead of the valleys of life? Jasons life journey has definitely been a journey of faith. The true test of faith is seen when we face down the challenges that life can bring. For a diamond to become a precious gem it must stay under the chisel, and for gold to be purified it has to remain in the fire. Jasons life experiences have definitely put him under the chisel and through the fire. Through it all Jason remains constant in his walk with Christ and stronger than ever in his faith. Reading Jasons book is both challenging and inspiring. I am blessed to have Jason in my life as a ministry partner and a friend. Though the future is unknown and the next chapter has yet to be written in Jasons life whatever comes his way I know where I will find him. He will be loving, serving and growing in Christ! Mike Chandler, senior pastor, Journey Church Cancer (the most feared word today ), blown up, bitten by a black widow spider, a life-threatening car wreck, colitis, and all of the pain that accompanies each one of these would cause most of us to question, if not lose our faith. But Jasons faith, like the slow process of forging steel, gets ever stronger. Thank you for sharing this chapter of your inspirational life story Jason. When I find myself in times of trouble I will remember this Job-like journey. As for me, I'm looking for an opportunity to help someone get their ice cream! Butch Stewart, youth leader, Hickory Church of God
