Book excerpt: The ideas of Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, the architect of the Constitution of India, have always been distorted by the people involved in the Left and minority alliance, and the Congress. Due to their personal interests, they always presented Babasaheb as a leader of the downtrodden and Dalits. They tried to portray him as if he nowhere contributed to the upliftment and development of the country. Today these separatists want to spread unrest in the country on the pretext of a Dalit-Muslim alliance. Realising these things, Dr. Ambedkar talked about the complete transfer of the Hindu and Muslim populations in the event of the partition of the country in 1940. He gave Constitution to the country which is still protecting the integrity and unity of the country. He opposed Article 370 in the Constitution, but it was added because of Nehru's love for particular community. As a research student of Economics, he gave the idea of the Reserve Bank of India and the Finance Commission. As the Law Minister of the country, he prepare Hindu Code Bill, to paved the way for women’s empowerment and the right of women to inherit ancestral property. This book is an attempt to bring to light the nationalist thoughts of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar and protray his contribution to the development of the nation.

Gandhi, the Indian nationalist, two figures whose thought and legacies have most strongly shaped the contours of Indian democracy, are typically considered antagonists who held irreconcilable views on empire, politics, and society. As such, they are rarely studied together. This book reassesses their complex relationship, focusing on their shared commitment to equality and justice, which for them was inseparable from anticolonial struggles for sovereignty. Both men inherited the concept of equality from Western humanism, but their ideas mark a radical turn in humanist conceptions of politics. This study recovers the philosophical foundations of their thought in Indian and Western traditions, religious and secular alike. Attending to moments of difficulty in their conceptions of justice and their languages of nonviolence, it probes the nature of risk that radical democracy's desire for inclusion opens within modern political thought. In excavating Ambedkar and Gandhi's intellectual kinship, Radical Equality allows them to shed light on each other, even as it places them within a global constellation of moral and political visions. The story of their struggle against inequality, violence, and empire thus transcends national boundaries and unfolds within a universal history of citizenship and dissent.

Written in 1945 the book really explains the dynamics of Hindu Mahasabha and Muslim League and how Congress and British Government played a role in partition. Although this book takes you to the unheard side of partition, it is interesting on how linguistic approach was chosen for a division of something that is unsure if it existed. Dr. Ambedkar takes a fine approach of giving a clarity of situation instead of been judgmental on the partition. No wonder the man was chosen to write our constitution. Of course if the war of majority and minority is kept away, the partition and its tragedy can be ready more fluently.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "For years Ambedkar battled alone against the Indian political establishment, including Gandhi, who resisted his attempt to formalize and codify a separate identity for the Dalits. Nonetheless, he became law minister in the first government of independent India and, more important, was elected chairman of the committee which drafted the Indian Constitution. Here he modified Gandhian attempts to influence the Indian polity. He then distanced himself from politics and sought solace in Buddhism, to which he converted in 1956, a few months before his death." "Jaffrelot focuses on Ambedkar's three key roles: as social theorist, as statesman and politician, and as an advocate of conversion to Buddhism as an escape route for India's Dalits. In each case he pioneered new strategies that proved effective in his lifetime and still resonate today."--BOOK JACKET.

Book excerpt: “What the Communist Manifesto is to the capitalist world, Annihilation of Caste is to India.” —Anand Teltumbde, author of The Persistence of Caste The classic work of Indian Dalit politics, reframed with an extensive introduction by Arundathi Roy B.R. Ambedkar’s Annihilation of Caste is one of the most important, yet neglected, works of political writing from India. Written in 1936, it is an audacious denunciation of Hinduism and its caste system. Ambedkar – a figure like W.E.B. Du Bois – offers a scholarly critique of Hindu scriptures, scriptures that sanction a rigidly hierarchical and iniquitous social system. The world’s best-known Hindu, Mahatma Gandhi, responded publicly to the provocation. The hatchet was never buried. Arundhati Roy introduces this extensively annotated edition of Annihilation of Caste in “The Doctor and the Saint,” examining the persistence of caste in modern India, and how the conflict between Ambedkar and Gandhi continues to resonate. Roy takes us to the beginning of Gandhi’s political career in South Africa, where his views on race, caste and imperialism were shaped. She tracks Ambedkar’s emergence as a major political figure in the national movement, and shows how his scholarship and intelligence illuminated a political struggle beset by sectarianism and obscurantism. Roy breathes new life into Ambedkar’s anti-caste utopia, and says that without a Dalit revolution, India will continue to be hobbled by systemic inequality.

Book excerpt: This book aims to understand the vision of Dr. Bhimrao Ramji (Babasaheb) Ambedkar for India and whether that vision has been achieved in relation to Jammu and Kashmir. Dr. Ambedkar wasÊa principal architect of the Constitution of India and his vision for India was reflected in his contributions in the constitution-making process. There is no provision in the Constitution which was drafted and discussed in the Constituent Assembly without his active participation, thus having his imprint; Except Article 370 where, Dr. Ambedkar is conspicuously absent, rather deliberately kept out. Dr. Ambedkar viewed a unified country with a strong centre to remove regional spirits of alienation, equality of men and women, no concept of special rights for residents of states and above all the need for special treatment of persons from Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. All these core values that form the basis of Dr. AmbedlarÕs vision of India are disregarded and disrespected in Jammu and Kashmir. The manner of handling of Jammu and Kashmir was one of the principal reasons for his resignation from the Union Government in 1951. This book is about trampling of fundamental values of the vision of India that were enshrined in the Constitution by Dr. Ambedkar in Jammu and Kashmir.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: About the book Bhimrao Rao Ambedkar Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, also known as Babasaheb, was an Indian nationalist, jurist, Dalit, political leader, activist, philosopher, thinker, anthropologist, historian, orator, prolific writer, economist, scholar, editor, revolutionary and the revivalist of Buddhism in India. He was also the chief architect of the Indian Constitution. Born into a poor Untouchable family, Ambedkar spent his whole life fighting against social discrimination, the system of Chaturvarna—the Hindu categorization of human society into four varnas—and the Indian caste system. Dr. Ambedkar's understanding, the prime factor responsible for the evolution of the system of untouchability was the religious persecution of Buddhists, while other social-psychological factors are secondary. This book is a comprehensive design to offer an in-depth analysis of the major, and rather disturbing, global problems in the human-centered, Ambedkar’s view of Indian caste i.e. Dalit, Harijan and untouchability and peace-oriented framework.
