Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From Academy Award-winning multi-talent Jamie Foxx, a hilariously candid look at the joys and pitfalls of being the father of two daughters. Jamie Foxx has won an Academy Award and a Grammy Award, laughed with sitting presidents, and partied with the biggest names in hip-hop. But he is most proud of his role as father to two very independent young women, Corinne and Anelise. Jamie might not always know what he’s doing when it comes to raising girls—especially when they talk to him about TikTok (PlikPlok?) and don’t share his enthusiasm for flashy Rolls Royces—but he does his best to show up for them every single day. Luckily, he has a strong example to follow: his beloved late grandmother, Estelle Marie Talley. Jamie learned everything he knows about parenting from the fierce woman who raised him: As he puts it, she’s “Madea before Tyler Perry put on the pumps and the gray wig.” In Act Like You Got Some Sense—a title inspired by Estelle—Jamie shares up close and personal stories about the tough love and old-school values he learned growing up in the small town of Terrell, Texas; his early days trying to make it in Hollywood; the joys and challenges of achieving stardom; and how each phase of his life shaped his parenting journey. Hilarious, poignant, and always brutally honest, this is Jamie Foxx like we’ve never seen him before.

Book excerpt: From the author of the acclaimed Roll with It comes a moving novel about a girl with a sensory processing disorder who has to find her own voice after her whole world turns upside down. Lou Montgomery has the voice of an angel, or so her mother tells her and anyone else who will listen. But Lou can only hear the fear in her own voice. She’s never liked crowds or loud noises or even high fives; in fact, she’s terrified of them, which makes her pretty sure there’s something wrong with her. When Lou crashes their pickup on a dark and snowy road, child services separate the mother-daughter duo. Now she has to start all over again at a fancy private school far away from anything she’s ever known. With help from an outgoing new friend, her aunt and uncle, and the school counselor, she begins to see things differently. A sensory processing disorder isn’t something to be ashamed of, and music might just be the thing that saves Lou—and maybe her mom, too.

The book has turned out to be compelling reading as it is strewn with interesting events beautifully woven. The social injustice caused to part of the human race – Black people – is dealt with in detail. The protagonist’s, Jamie Heslop’s, evolution from a young, loving boy to a potential leader through his audacity has been well narrated. He sympathises with the people suppressed in the society and rebels against the injustice and helps them live a peaceful life. His character is etched on the reader’s mind for his bravery and the way he handles the obstacles encountered on his sea journey. Kate, the female protagonist, has been created as a woman with a perspective. Her love for Jamie Heslop and compassion for the children suffering in the workhouse make her go on this risky journey with him. Her struggle between her love for Heslop and her longing for having a peaceful family in her village is well narrated. That she then chooses to sacrifice her love for the good of all shows her maturity. The intellectual plans conceived by Heslop to fight both the pirates and his uncle are so interesting that the reader cannot put down the book until he finishes it at one go. Their journey to the paradise island and their attempt at establishing a new society on their own with the meagre resources available there are adventurous. The book is a good read.

Book excerpt: The three sisters haven't been together for six years when they all gather at Calder Lodge in the wake of their stepmother's death. They quickly settle into the old sibling patterns: Vanessa, the eldest, clucks round like a mother hen; rebel Jamie, just back from America, is the outspoken one whose straight-talking isn't always to her sisters' taste; and Phil, the youngest, in the shadow of the other two, is willing to follow where they lead. But the familiar roles are deceptive. Vanessa's apparently happy marriage conceals domestic abuse; Jamie's successful career has ended in ruin and a broken heart; in fact it is Phil, always the low achiever, who has managed to make the most of her life. These secrets become apparent only after several months and the resolution of the various problems takes place against the breathtaking beauty of the Scottish Highlands. The sixth book in the Perthshire novels.
