Book Synopsis Kingfisher and Kingfisher County by : Glen V. McIntyre
Download or read book Kingfisher and Kingfisher County written by Glen V. McIntyre and published by Arcadia Publishing. This book was released on 2009 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Kingfisher and Kingfisher County showcases images from a special time, 1889 to just before World War II, and special places, small towns on the edge of the Great Plains. Sometimes called "the Buckle of the Wheat Belt," the city of Kingfisher is the county seat and lies about 45 minutes northwest of Oklahoma City near the center of the state. Other towns, Hennessey, Loyal, Cashion, Dover, and Okarche, still exist and thrive, although many other small towns in the county are only memories. The eastern portion of the county was opened by the land run of 1889, and the western portion, originally part of the Cheyenne and Arapaho Reservation, was opened by the land run of 1892. The growth and harvesting of hard red winter wheat has long been central to the economy of the area. Photographs of Cheyenne Indians, floods, wheat harvesting, small-town stores, and the people of the area are only some of the materials that preserve showing the way life was in Kingfisher and Kingfisher County.

Download or read book Oklahoma Renegades written by Butler, Ken and published by Pelican Publishing. This book was released on 2010-09-23 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the Twin Territories, as Oklahoma was known before statehood, renegades roamed, and attempted to rule, the land. Famous lawmen, including Bill Tilghman, Heck Thomas, and Chris Madsen, and infamous outlaws, including the Dalton and Bill Cook gangs, have been the topics of many books, documentaries, and magazine articles. Other, lesser-known characters from Oklahoma's past have received little, if any attention . . . until now. Now, the story of Bert Casey and his gang can be told. Casey was the fiercely violent leader of a band of outlaws that terrorized the people of Oklahoma. While not as well known or as organized as the larger groups of villains, the Casey gang and its exploits captured the attention of the citizens of Oklahoma, and of the law, for many years. Others mentioned include doctor-turned-deputy Zeno Beemblossom and the flamboyant, volatile defense attorney Moman Pruiett. Train robberies, murders, showdowns, and hangings were part of everyday life in the Twin Territories, and they are all featured in Oklahoma Renegades: Their Deeds and Misdeeds . What began as research for a short article for author Ken Butler quickly turned into five years of work, resulting in his first book. Ken Butler is a lifetime member of the National Association for Outlaw and Lawman History and a charter member of the Association for the Preservation of Lawman and Outlaw History of Oklahoma (Oklahombres).
