Book Synopsis Trends in Double Cropping by : Roger W. Hexem
Download or read book Trends in Double Cropping written by Roger W. Hexem and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Extract: U.S. farmers increased double-cropped acreage from 5.8 to 12.4 million acres during 1974-82, from 1.9 percent of all acres harvested in 1974 to nearly 4 percent in 1982. Double cropping was expanding because of rising commodity prices and producers' adoption of advanced technologies in plant varieties and farming practices. Appalachia, the Delta States, and the Southeast showed the sharpest growth in double cropping, partly because growing seasons there are relatively long. Double cropping declined after 1982 because of weak soybean prices, Government-sponsored idling of some wheat acreage that would otherwise have been double cropped, and unfavorable weather in several important doub le-cropping areas.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the sharp rise in petroleum prices over the past decade, interest has grown in the possible use of plant and tree seed oils as diesel fuel substitutes or extenders and as chemical feedstocks in both the industrialized and the developing world. This book represents the first attempt to bring together science, technology, and policy aspects of this topic in one volume. The authors examine the chemical, biological, and energy-related resources available in commercial and wild plant oilseeds; the status of chemical processing efforts and of engine tests using agricultural diesel fuels; the potential economic, environmental, and social impacts of more extensive oilseed utilization; and current legislation aimed at stimulating commercialization of strategic renewable agricultural resources.

This book was released on 2016-03-17 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1985, the U.S. Congress confronted the difficult and complex task of developing a 5-year omnibus legislation allowing for lower commodity prices. But, policies predicated on the concept of agriculture as a unique sector of the economy became less and less appropriate to the highly interdependent, open agricultural economy throughout the 1980s. First published in 1985, this collection of 16 papers and related discussions contained in these proceedings is an important contribution toward understanding the issues, options, and dilemmas in U.S. agricultural policy. This is an ideal title for students interested in environmental studies, agriculture, and national policy.
