Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Public Service Campaign, “If you see something, say something,” was started after 911. I have seen things I do not think are kosher for too long without saying anything. My silence ends with this book. I have seen too many people being made to feel like they do not belong because they march to the beat of their own drum and stand opposed to the status quo. I am talking about the so-called minorities, the physically and mentally challenged, the poor and uneducated, those battling addictions, the old, the young, those to the religious left and right, as well as those in the LGBT community, and a marid of other individuals and groups who do not fit with the in crowd. It has almost gotten to the point that the only people welcome to the party are those who put a gag on their mouth and will do anything to fit in; hesitant to rock the boat, for fear of persecution. My goal with the writing of this book is to blow the trumpet to announce that it is time we start to do more hugging than judging each other. I am tired of seeing people hurt simply because they do not fit into the cookie cutter role and place society and tradition says they belong in. If I refuse to hug you, I have no right to judge you. The same goes for those who refuse to hug me because I am Black, a father, son, brother, uncle, have mental, emotional and spiritual challenges, battling addiction, loneliness, and uncertainty, homeless, am a returning citizen, unapologetically male and a follower of Jesus Christ, American and most importantly a free thinker. If you can find any reason not to hug me or I attempt to find a reason not to hug you, neither of us have the right to judge or say anything about the other. I am completing this book while I reside at City View Multicare Center in Cicero, where I was blessed to find housing after being homeless for two years, as the result of a mental and drug relapse. I am thankful to the staff and residents here who have welcomed me into their midst with open arms. I pray that they will take a chance to read it and be encouraged to love and hug themselves as well as others every day. Though nursing homes are typically thought of as places of abandonment, there is a prevailing sense of family here at City View, which I am privileged to be a part of and supported by. Their Motto is, “Heroes live here and work here,” and it is true in every sense of the word. Who knows, if we all did a little more hugging and a lot less judging, we may find that many of our problems will go away.

Book excerpt: God invites us to judge and to help correct wrongs from a place of understanding. Sometimes we pre-judge a person based on our own biases and superficial experiences. We stifle dialog before the conversation even begins. If all we know is our own faith, and we never put it side-by-side with what others believe, our spiritual growth and commitments can be easily stunted. By truly listening and learning from those with different beliefs, we can broaden and deepen our kingdom commitments. It is possible to stand up for Jesus, to articulate our faith clearly as witnesses, and to defend our faith effectively, while at the same time not being perceived as judgmental. Christians need to be faithful witnesses to God who are willing to listen to people with drastically different stories. In those exchanges, when we suspend judgment and truly listen, we will find truth and beauty and goodness in some of the most unexpected places. We will also find that, if we truly listen, we may be given a chance to speak. Features include: Help for interfaith and intercultural dialog Thought-provoking questions for spiritual conversation or reflection

Book excerpt: Would like to take this opportunity to thank Gaur Gopal Das Ji for his wonderful choice of words and wisdom which he has used to help crores of people like me to humble us, ask us to think again of what we know is true or believe in. His teachings and humor has undoubtedly touched millions of hearts and more so helped many like me to overcome our fits of rage, due to our arrogance and ignorance of the finest & simplest of truths. His simplest of explanations sometimes are what have moved and broken down my walls of Self-righteousness which I had built around myself. I had forgotten quite simply that though others may not have achieved as much but I was quite simply put a fool to undermine or insult them as I was not actually judging them but in a way was showing that though I had learnt a lot of arts but I was still poor at heart. I realised through Sir’s teachings that though they may have done something to annoy me, losing my patience and showing my anger was my weakness and that I was actually involuntarily stating that I was a fool & a nobody to judge.

Book excerpt: Celebrated artist and lead character designer of Brave, Ratatouille, and Despicable Me, Carter Goodrich, shows that sometimes, even the prickliest people—or the crankiest cacti—need a little love. Hank is the prickliest cactus in the entire world. He sits in a pot in a window that faces the empty desert, which is just how he likes it. So, when all manner of creatures—from tumbleweed to lizard to owl—come to disturb his peace, Hank is annoyed. He doesn’t like noise, he doesn’t like rowdiness, and definitely does not like hugs. But the thing is, no one is offering one. Who would want to hug a plant so mean? Hank is beginning to discover that being alone can be, well, lonely. So he comes up with a plan to get the one thing he thought he would never need: a hug from a friend.

Book excerpt: 'Judge not...' we've all heard those words, and those who 'judge' are generally rebuked and dismissed as dishonourable. But is all judgment dishonourable? Didn't Jesus go on to say, 'In the same way you judge others, you will be judged; for the measure (type of judgment) you use will be the measure used against you'. (Matt.7:2) What does that mean? Didn't Jesus also tell us to forgive? How can we forgive, if we don't first judge someone to be in need of our forgiveness? What about mercy? How can we give mercy if we don't judge that mercy is required? And why were we told that we will be judging angels? If God didn't forbid all judging, what, when and how, are we supposed to judge? Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During my fourth year of teaching, I had the great privilege of working with an amazing educator by the name of Miss Bezanson. She taught a grade four class to whom I taught Physical Education. Therefore, I had the opportunity to socialize with her on a daily basis. About six months into the school year, Miss Bezanson gave me something that would forever change my teaching techniques and my life, although I did not realize it at that moment. One afternoon, I was in Miss Bezansons class discussing a student who was displaying increasing behavioural problems in my Physical Education class. Sensing that I was experiencing tremendous stress as a result of this student, she gave me something that touched my heart and reinforced an important life lesson. She handed me a small paper card entitled Hug Someone You Love Today. That was it! No preachy sermon or fancy teaching strategies. At that moment, I realized that maybe all that child needed was a simple hug. A sign of affection which he may or may not have been receiving at home. So the next day, I gave him a Hug Someone You Love Today card. From that day forward, I never had another major problem with that student. It was absolutely amazing. In this book, I will share with you some of the heart-felt, true stories that I have accumulated over the years as a result of passing out these Hug Someone You Love Today cards along to those in need. These are stories about normal folks like you and I, whose lives have been positively changed as a result of receiving this simple card. As you read these stories, hopefully you will begin to feel more peaceful and loving yourself.

Book excerpt: Delphine was 4 years old when her hell began. "We always promised each other, my Mom and I, that we would not talk about it anymore, that it was over. Except that after this promise, which I never broke, I had many bad times to go through. I was always trying to find out why I felt so bad about myself, why the fear of dying came over me again, as in childhood. I gradually became aware that this feeling of uneasiness probably came from the drifting in and out of hospitals that I had experienced from a very young age, from the way my mother manipulated me, from all this sadness, and these fears, all these emotions had been so well repressed for years. My mind doesn't want to remember but my body hasn't forgotten anything and was letting me know." Munchhausen syndrome by proxy is a severe form of child abuse in which the adult caregiver deliberately causes serious and repeated health problems in the child before taking the child to a doctor. Afterword by Dr. Stéphanie Dauver, child psychiatrist, who wrote her thesis on Munchhausen syndrome by proxy. Born in 1983, Delphine Paquereau grew up in Poitou-Charente in a dysfunctional family. Her mother suffered from Munchhausen syndrome by proxy, so Delphine ended up spending her childhood in hospitals. Now married, she is the mother of two children and lives in Charente Maritime.
