I followed it with a blind faith on it, believing that it does only good to me. It guided me through a path where I tasted my fruits of successes. But the end of the path is the entrance of a hell. Though I tried to divert my path, the destiny is same. Why is this happening to me? Will I be tortured and killed? or will I escape from it? What is the intent of the core element?

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A doctor's white coat is like an armour against the world. Cool and confident behind it, smiling to reassure nervous patients, while the doctor's own anxieties and uncertainties remain well hidden. In a Better Place takes us to the world behind that self-assured exterior through the lives of Sudha, practising in a busy hospital in the heart of Delhi, her husband, Girish, and their close circle of doctor friends and colleagues. It is a world of sudden crises and long hours in bleak hospital wards, courageous fights to save a life and heartbreak, personal dilemmas and aspirations for a better life, but also the great satisfactions of a job well done. Always there is the pulsating canvas of the city-first the hospital in Delhi, then in England. From minor observations to broader strokes-a doctor evaluating quickly what to do to save a patient, the rusty screech of a screen as it is pulled to give privacy to a patient being given emergency care, to a tea seller near the IIT gate and a dhaba which serves excellent food, the details help us connect to Sudha, Girish, Jai and Sanjay with a rare immediacy. Always, like a good doctor does her patient, Bornali Datta carries the reader along with her. Sudha and her husband do get to be where they think they want to be, but, as this engaging novel develops, it is not quite what they wanted, they realise.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the last decade lifestyle television has become one of the most dominant television genres, with certain shows now global brands with formats exploited by producers all over the world. What unites these programmes is their belief that the human subject has a flexible, malleable identity that can be changed within television-friendly frameworks. In contrast to the talk shows of the eighties and nineties where modest transformation was discussed as an ideal, advances in technology, combined with changing tastes and demands of viewers, have created an appetite for dramatic transformations. This volume presents case studies from across the lifestyle genre, considering a variety of themes but with a shared understanding of the self as an evolving project, driven by enterprise. Written by an international team of scholars, the collection will appeal to sociologists of culture and consumption, as well as to scholars of media studies and media production throughout the world.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about learning the phrases and sentences and getting to grips with saying the language, without going into the grammar first. In that way you can have fun in learning how to say certain things and also you do not come up against stumbling blocks and frustrations. The idea behind this thinking was because when I was a child my parents used to tell me words before they taught me how to do the alphabet, so I thought that was a better way round; get used to the language first. I wrote this book to how I thought the student of the language could assimilate and understand it and get a basic grounding of the language. I thought to myself, what was the best thing to learn first, for instance; what the difference between masculine and feminine; what does the accent mean, so I put this information in the chapter header pages so then I could use more space to actually learning the language. I have also put in a conceptual stage so then you can think about the language for instance. English has quite a few routes to it, like Latin; so quite a few words are very similar, even though the accent can throw us off. It sounds like proper English for instance; catgorie which means category in French which is nearly the same in English. I believe there is no right or wrong way to learn; it depends on what you want it for; you may want to practise it on holiday or you may want to read the French newspapers, so sometimes you do not necessarily have to learn the alphabet or the grammar. I like to read newspapers on holiday and watch films in French; that is why I wanted to learn it. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I have in writing it.

Book excerpt: Jean Johnson's first novel in an explosive new science fiction trilogy set in the world of the national bestselling Theirs Not to Reason Why series—set two-hundred years earlier, at the dawn of the First Salik War… Born into a political family and gifted with psychic abilities, Jacaranda MacKenzie has served as a border-watcher and even spent time as a representative on the United Planets Council. Now she just wants to spend her days in peace and quiet as a translator—but the universe has other plans… Humans have long known that they would encounter more alien species, and while those with precognitive abilities agree a terrible war is coming, they do not agree on who will save humanity—a psychic soldier or a politician. But Jackie is both. After she is pressured into rejoining the Space Force to forestall the impending calamity, Jackie makes an unsettling discovery. Their new enemy, the Salik, seem to be rather familiar with fighting Humans—as if their war against humanity had already begun…
