Book Synopsis Remote Sensing of Leaf Area Index (LAI) and Other Vegetation Parameters by : Francisco Javier García-Haro
Download or read book Remote Sensing of Leaf Area Index (LAI) and Other Vegetation Parameters written by Francisco Javier García-Haro and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2019-09-16 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Monitoring of vegetation structure and functioning is critical to modeling terrestrial ecosystems and energy cycles. In particular, leaf area index (LAI) is an important structural property of vegetation used in many land surface vegetation, climate, and crop production models. Canopy structure (LAI, fCover, plant height, and biomass) and biochemical parameters (leaf pigmentation and water content) directly influence the radiative transfer process of sunlight in vegetation, determining the amount of radiation measured by passive sensors in the visible and infrared portions of the electromagnetic spectrum. Optical remote sensing (RS) methods build relationships exploiting in situ measurements and/or as outputs of physical canopy radiative transfer models. The increased availability of passive (radar and LiDAR) RS data has fostered their use in many applications for the analysis of land surface properties and processes, thanks also to their insensitivity to weather conditions and the capability to exploit rich structural and textural information. Data fusion and multi-sensor integration techniques are pressing topics to fully exploit the information conveyed by both optical and microwave bands.
Book Synopsis The Socioeconomic Impact of COVID-19 on Eastern European Countries by : Paweł Dykas
Download or read book The Socioeconomic Impact of COVID-19 on Eastern European Countries written by Paweł Dykas and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-11-16 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The year 2020 went down in economic history due to the dramatic and drastic changes in economic and social conditions that resulted from the outbreak of the global pandemic of COVID-19. This book offers a multi-level narrative about the pandemic, written from national and international perspectives, enabling the authors to construct several macro- and mega-scenarios. The book consists of six chapters. Four of them discuss the process of the COVID-19 pandemic caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus in Europe in 2020, i.e. the directions and dynamics of the spread and its socioeconomic consequences, and provide a comparative analysis of fiscal and monetary packages employed by Europe, with an emphasis on Eastern European countries. The remaining two chapters contain forecasts and scenarios. The fifth chapter, dedicated to forecasts, provides readers with a comprehensive description of possible consequences of any epidemic leading to severe social losses such as high percentages of infected and dead, limited interpersonal contacts as a result of lockdown, a lowered level of general individual and social well-being, as well as economic losses, for example a decline in production as a result of the collapse of aggregate demand and a reduction in the supply capacity of the economy, consequently slowing down the pace of capital accumulation. The sixth, final chapter describes possible scenarios of the spread of the pandemic in Poland and Ukraine, depending on measures taken by the governments of those countries. The Socioeconomic Impact of COVID-19 on Eastern European Countries is designed as a practical reference for scholars, researchers and policymakers.

Book Synopsis Marine Division: The Special Forces In Vietnam War by :
Download or read book Marine Division: The Special Forces In Vietnam War written by and published by Evelyn Cabrera. This book was released on 2022-07-25 with total page 565 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The United States battled the Vietnam War to contain the spread of Communism in Southeast Asia, explicitly from North Vietnam to South Vietnam. From the mid-1960s to 1973, the U.S. heightened its inclusion, first giving the South Vietnam system monetary guide and military direction to ultimately sending 2.7 million soldiers to battle Viet Cong guerrilla powers and the infringing Communist North Vietnamese Army. The Vietnamese were battling a nationwide conflict, however, the North considered the conflict the "Obstruction War Against America" or "the American War." "One man...? What is one man going to have the option to do...?" General Letcher was suspicious that one man could effectively prevent the provisions from descending the path and into the South. He needed to send the entire Division north to clear out the NVA, however, the underwear-wearing legislators in Washington could never oblige that. "He's not only a man, or besides not simply a Marine. He's a Blackfeet fighter.
Book Synopsis Analogical Modeling of Language by : R. Skousen
Download or read book Analogical Modeling of Language written by R. Skousen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1989-10-31 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 1. Structuralist Versus Analogical Descriptions ONE important purpose of this book is to compare two completely dif ferent approaches to describing language. The first of these approaches, commonly called stnlctllralist, is the traditional method for describing behavior. Its methods are found in many diverse fields - from biological taxonomy to literary criticism. A structuralist description can be broadly characterized as a system of classification. The fundamental question that a structuralist description attempts to answer is how a general contextual space should be partitioned. For each context in the partition, a rule is defined. The rule either specifies the behavior of that context or (as in a taxonomy) assigns a name to that context. Structuralists have implicitly assumed that descriptions of behavior should not only be correct, but should also minimize the number of rules and permit only the simplest possible contextual specifications. It turns out that these intuitive notions can actually be derived from more fundamental statements about the uncertainty of rule systems. Traditionally, linguistic analyses have been based on the idea that a language is a system of rules. Saussure, of course, is well known as an early proponent of linguistic structuralism, as exemplified by his characterization of language as "a self-contained whole and principle of classification" (Saussure 1966:9). Yet linguistic structuralism did not originate with Saussure - nor did it end with "American structuralism".
