Download or read book Nitrate in the Unsaturated Zone Under Agricultural Lands written by Parker F. Pratt and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Because of a tremendous increase in the concern for nitrate (NO3̄) in surface and ground waters, the study of NO3̄ leaching has become very important. The present investigation was undertaken to determine the potential contribution of fertilizer N use on citrus and row crops to the NO3̄ in ground waters in the Santa Ana River Basin of Southern California where a deep unsaturated zone exists between the soil profile or crop-root zone and the water table or saturated zone. The objectives were to relate NO3̄ concentrations in the unsaturated zone to N inputs, N removal by harvested crops and the volume of drainage water, to obtain some estimates of transit times for drainage water through the unsaturated zone, to estimate denitrification losses on a field basis, and to assess the probable effects of present fertilizer N recommendations on NO3̄ in ground waters.

It also addresses legal and social barriers to urban ecological sustainability and proposes practical ways to overcome those barriers. Cities of the Future features chapters containing visionary concepts on how to ensure that cities and their water resources become ecologically sustainable and are able to provide clean water for all beneficial uses. The book links North American and Worldwide experience and approaches. The book is primarily a professional reference aimed at a wide interdisciplinary audience, including universities, consultants, environmental advocacy groups and legal environmental professionals.

Book Synopsis Geochemical Techniques for Identifying Sources of Ground-Water Salinization by : Charles W. Kreitler
Download or read book Geochemical Techniques for Identifying Sources of Ground-Water Salinization written by Charles W. Kreitler and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-03-31 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Geochemical Techniques for Identifying Sources of Ground-Water Salinization offers a comprehensive look at the threat to the United States' freshwater resources due to salinization and outlines techniques that can be used to study the problem. The book reviews the seven major salt-water sources that commonly mix and deteriorate our fresh ground water (natural saline ground water, halite solution, sea-water intrusion, oil- and gas-field brines, agriculture effluents, saline seep, and road salting). Other topics covered are the characteristics of saltwater sources, geochemical parameters, and basic graphical and statistical methods that are frequently used in saltwater studies. The book also provides geographical charts showing the distribution of the major salt-water sources, illustrating which ones are potential sources in any given area in the United States.Geochemical Techniques for Identifying Sources of Ground-Water Salinization describes the individual geochemical parameters used in identifying salinization and the information on how and where to obtain them. This is an informative book for anyone interested in the present and future quality of our fresh-water supply.
