Book excerpt: Esta Tesis se enmarca en el área de Didáctica y Organización Escolar y se propone diseñar y validar un modelo de evaluación por competencias en la universidad. El tema, emergente y de gran interés educativo, coincide históricamente con el inicio del proceso de implantación de las nuevas titulaciones de Grado en el contexto español, de acuerdo a las directrices del Espacio Europeo de Educación Superior. El proceso de investigación se articula en tres fases bajo el paradigma interpretativo simbólico. La primera fase, corresponde al estudio exploratorio realizado entre 2005 y 2007, desarrolla un Estudio de cuatro Casos en titulaciones del contexto catalán que participaron en Planes Piloto. La segunda fase desarrolla un Estudio de Casos en 12 titulaciones del contexto español que comenzaron a implantar los nuevos títulos de Grado en los cursos académicos 2008-2009 y 2009-2010. Dentro de los resultados más significativos de esta fase se identifican y caracterizan estadios en la integración de la formación y evaluación por competencias en las titulaciones españolas, conceptualizaciones sobre competencias y estrategias para el desarrollo y la implantación de esta modalidad formativa. En la tercera fase se diseña y valida el modelo para el desarrollo de la evaluación por competencias en titulaciones universitarias. A lo largo de todo el proceso de investigación se consulta a numerosos y reconocidos expertos del contexto nacional e internacional. La Tesis se estructura en tres apartados principales precedidos por el Capítulo 1 que contiene el Planteamiento General de la Investigación. El primer apartado corresponde al Marco Teórico y está compuesto por cuatro capítulos: el Capítulo 2 Concepto y naturaleza de las competencias; el Capítulo 3 La formación y evaluación por competencias: un cambio conceptual; el Capítulo 4 El aprendizaje por competencias y el desarrollo del estudiante universitario; y el Capítulo 5 Diseño y desarrollo de la evaluación por competencias. La finalidad de este apartado es presentar las bases conceptuales desde las que definir el objeto de estudio considerando distintas perspectivas que ofrece la revisión de la literatura y los modelos del contexto nacional e internacional. El segundo apartado, hace referencia al Marco Aplicado. Se compone de cuatro capítulos: el Capítulo 6 Diseño y fundamentación del Estudio de Campo; el Capítulo 7 Desarrollo del estudio de campo; el Capítulo 8 Modelo de evaluación por competencias en la universidad (M.E.C.U.): construcción y validación; y el Capítulo 9 El control de calidad del proceso general de la investigación. Cada una de estas secciones describe las diferentes fases del proceso de investigación de Campo hasta lograr el diseño y validación del modelo, objetivo último de esta Tesis. El tercer apartado, corresponde al Marco Conclusivo y está compuesto por cuatro capítulos: el Capítulo 10 Resultados del estudio exploratorio en el contexto catalán; el Capítulo 11 Resultados del Estudio de 12 Casos en el contexto español; el Capítulo 12 Resultados de la validación del modelo y, finalmente, el Capítulo 13 que contiene las Conclusiones y propuestas de intervención a las que se llega en esta Tesis. Como resultado principal, se diseña y valida el Modelo de Evaluación por Competencias en la Universidad (M.E.C.U.). Conceptualmente, se ubica en el segundo nivel de la tipología propuesta por Berdrow y Evers (2009) y representa un punto de referencia para integrar la evaluación por competencias a lo largo de un período formativo o plan de estudios. Operativamente, señala elementos necesarios para integrar la evaluación por competencias en titulaciones, áreas o módulos y provee un instrumento de autoevaluación formativo. Entre las conclusiones, se sugiere la necesidad de continuar profundizando en el tema, realizar análisis y seguimientos longitudinales de los Casos y extender el estudio a otros contextos.
