Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The minimax concept for solution of discrete two-person games is based on expected value considerations and has a zero-sum condition for payoffs. This approach often is inapplicable due to strong violation of the zero-sum condition. By use of a different criterion, based on median value considerations, a two-person game theory can be developed that seems appropriate for a class of situations called competitive. It is also applicable for a hugely broader class of practically important situations called median competitive. (Author).

This book was released on 1970 with total page 21 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Considered is discrete two-person game theory where the players behave competitively and choose their strategies separately and independently. Payoffs can be of a very general nature and need not be numbers. Within each matrix, the payoffs can be ranked according to increasing desirability level. This is done separately by each player and these rankings are not necessarily related. Separately, player i, (i = 1,2), selects and applies a percentile criterion 100ai to each matrix. A largest desirability level Pi(ai) occurs in the matrix for player i such that, when acting protectively, he can assure with probability at least ai that his payoff is at least this desirable (to him). Also, a smallest desirability level (P'j)(ai), according to the ranking by player i, occurs in the matrix for the other player (designated as j) such that player i, when acting vindictively, can assure with probability at least ai that the payoff to player j has at most this desirability (to player i). An ai-optimum solution occurs for player i when he can be simultaneously ai-protective and ai-vindictive. Median game theory occurs when a1=a2=1/2. Percentile game theory occurs when more, or less, assurance is desired than occurs for the median case. (Author).

This book was released on 1970 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Considered is discrete two-person game theory where the players choose their strategies independently. Two approaches using a median criterion have been developed for obtaining optimum solution. In the first approach, the payoffs are ranked according to desirability separately for each matrix (with agreement between the players on these rankings). For the second approach, the possible outcomes of the game (pairs of payoffs, one to each player) are ordered according to desirability separately by each player. Only situations of players behaving competitively are considered for the first approach. Rather general situations can be considered for the second approach, which is usable for virtually all games. For both approaches, the payoffs can be of a very general nature (some payoffs may not even be numbers). In the paper, the two approaches are outlined and their application properties are discussed. Book Synopsis A New Approach to Two-person Game Theory Using Median Considerations by : John E. Walsh
Download or read book A New Approach to Two-person Game Theory Using Median Considerations written by John E. Walsh and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The concept of mixed strategies greatly extends the opportunity to obtain optimum strategies for discrete two-person game theory but introduces probability considerations. That is, the payoffs to the player can have probability distributions. This complicates the determination of optimum strategies. However, this determination can be greatly simplified by only considering some reasonable kind of 'representative value' for a distribution. The distribution mean is used in the expected-value approach. Another reasonable choice is the distribution median, and this is the basis for median game theory. The median approach not only can be applied to the payoffs for each player but also to the possible outcomes (pairs of payoffs, one to each player) for the game. Application of the median approach to the payoffs for each player yields some results that are much more widely applicable than those for expected-value game theory. Median results that are generally usable, for virtually all types of payoffs, are developed by applying the median approach to outcomes. (Author).

This book was released on 2006-05-21 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this book is to report to the international readership on the sophisticated research by Russian game theorists during the two decades 1968 - 1988. The book includes a collection of contributions in game theory and the related field of equilibrium theory which never had been published in English before. A short historical survey on the development of game theory in the USSR before 1990 is given in the introduction.

Book Synopsis Median Two-person Game Theory and Examples of Its Flexibility in Applications by : John E. Walsh

This book was released on 1970 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Considered is discrete two-person game theory where the players choose their strategies independently. Use of mixed strategies introduces probabilistic aspects, so that the payoff to a player has a probability distribution. Determination of optimum strategies is simplified when only some reasonable 'representative value' is considered for a distribution. The distribution mean is used for this purpose in expected-value game theory. Another reasonable choice is the distribution median, and this is the basis for median game theory. Median game theory has huge application advantages over expected-value game theory. Payoffs of a very general nature are allowable for median game theory (some payoffs may not even be numbers). Also, optimum solutions are obtainable for virtually all games. These solutions are obtained through orderings of the outcomes of the game (pairs of payoffs, one to each player) according to desirability, with each player doing a separate ordering. The paper first provides an introduction to median game theory and then gives the generally applicable solution, which depends on choices of 'relative desirability' functions by the two players (to order the outcomes). Finally, to illustrate the flexibility of median game theory, there is a discussion (including some examples) about considerations in selection of relative desirability functions. (Author).

Book Synopsis Zero-Sum Discrete-Time Markov Games with Unknown Disturbance Distribution by : J. Adolfo Minjárez-Sosa
Download or read book Zero-Sum Discrete-Time Markov Games with Unknown Disturbance Distribution written by J. Adolfo Minjárez-Sosa and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-01-27 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This SpringerBrief deals with a class of discrete-time zero-sum Markov games with Borel state and action spaces, and possibly unbounded payoffs, under discounted and average criteria, whose state process evolves according to a stochastic difference equation. The corresponding disturbance process is an observable sequence of independent and identically distributed random variables with unknown distribution for both players. Unlike the standard case, the game is played over an infinite horizon evolving as follows. At each stage, once the players have observed the state of the game, and before choosing the actions, players 1 and 2 implement a statistical estimation process to obtain estimates of the unknown distribution. Then, independently, the players adapt their decisions to such estimators to select their actions and construct their strategies. This book presents a systematic analysis on recent developments in this kind of games. Specifically, the theoretical foundations on the procedures combining statistical estimation and control techniques for the construction of strategies of the players are introduced, with illustrative examples. In this sense, the book is an essential reference for theoretical and applied researchers in the fields of stochastic control and game theory, and their applications.
