Book Synopsis Directions in Educational Planning by : Mark Bray
Download or read book Directions in Educational Planning written by Mark Bray and published by United Nations Education, Scientific & Cultural Organization. This book was released on 2011 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The nature of educational planning has evolved significantly during the past few decades. For many years, it generally relied on grand models focusing on macro-planning. Today, the field is increasingly defined by decentralized approaches, non-government funding, and cross-national forces in the context of globalization. IIEP has played a lead role in contributing to conceptual issues, developing methodologies, and facilitating capacity development. In 2008, the Institute organized a symposium to discuss the changing context and content of educational planning, reflecting on continuities and changes in the past and looking ahead to the future. This publication is based on selected papers presented at the symposium.

Book Synopsis Directions to Excellence in Education by : Cliff Dochterman
Download or read book Directions to Excellence in Education written by Cliff Dochterman and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This short volume is directed toward policy makers, parents, students, educational leaders, teachers, taxpayers, and American society, aiming at their involvement and the attainment of excellence in education. Excellence in education occurs when quality becomes a primary goal; when flexible attitudes prevail toward procedures in schools and school systems; when high standards are observed in the home, school and community; when priorities permit resources to support excellence; when the learning needs of all are included; and when continuous, cooperative, comprehensive long range planning is implemented. Public education is the responsibility of each state, which must provide the needed leadership through a state coordinating agency. The local educational board must accept responsibility for improving schools. In all cases, wide involvement of lay, professional, and governmental elements of society is necessary.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Now in its fourth edition, Comparative Education: The Dialectic of the Global and the Local remains the same groundbreaking book when it first debuted its collection of outstanding scholars in examining the changing transnational landscape of education. With the addition of new coeditor Stephen Franz, the book provides new perspectives on the dynamic interplay of global, national, and local forces as they shape the functions and outcomes of education systems. The book calls for a rethinking of the nation-state as the basic unit for analyzing school-society relations and emphasizes the need to study social movements in relation to educational reforms. It also emphasizes the value of feminist, postcolonial, and culturally sensitive perspectives for inquiry into the potential of education systems to contribute to individual development and social change. This new edition incorporates recent developments in scholarship, especially in education policy and practice, the impact of the global economic crisis, and a new chapter on education in the European Union.

Download or read book North American Scholars of Comparative Education written by Erwin H. Epstein and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-07-01 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book brings together fifteen comprehensive studies of significant North American scholars of comparative education from the 20th century. Providing relevant biographical detail, chapters analyse each scholar’s approach to comparative education and their on-going influences on the field. Comparative studies in education have long benefited from the work of significant individuals who have collectively advanced the field, making it a vibrant and intellectually fruitful area of educational research. Offering a unique, systematic exploration of the work of the founders of comparative educational research, North American Scholars of Comparative Education emphasizes the importance of understanding the accomplishments of key historical figures in the field, and considers the legacies such individuals have created. Chapters move beyond descriptions of comparativists’ work, to illustrate the pivotal role played by each scholar in driving a progression through humanistic and scientific approaches, to new epistemological traditions within the field of comparative education. This in turn reveals critical historical-epistemological transitions which have had lasting impacts on the field. Including contributions written by leading scholars in the field, this volume will be of great interest to researchers, academics and scholars in comparative and international education.
