This book was released on 2015-06-10 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The understanding of God's name YHWH is so controversial that it is eventually the controversy of controversies, or the ultimate controversy. Indeed, why most of competent Hebrew scholars propagate patently false explanations about God's name? Why do the Jews refuse to read God's name as it is written and read Adonay "my Lord" (a plural of majesty) instead of it? Why God's name is usually punctuated e, â (shewa, qamats) by the Masoretes what makes its reading impossible, because the 4 consonants of the name YHWH must have at least 3 vowels (long or short) to be read, like the words 'aDoNâY and 'eLoHîM "God" (a plural of majesty), which have 4 consonants and 3 vowels? At last, why the obvious reading "Yehowah", according to theophoric names, which all begin by Yehô-, without exception, is so despised, and why the simple biblical meaning, "He will be" from Exodus 3:14, is rejected.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The story of the so-called Good Thief as found in Lc 23, 39-43 has a vibrant and diverse afterlife in early Christianity. Synoptic and eschatological disparities raise concerns and provoke a variety of harmonizations. Controversies notwithstanding, early interpreters occupy themselves most of all with the episode's potential for exhortation as they identify themselves and their hearers with the good bandit. He becomes a model of Christian practices, beliefs and virtues including worship, faith (even Nicea's formulation), justification by faith, conversion, catechesis, confession, martyrdom, baptism (in many modes), endurance, asceticism, simplicity of language, penitence, and last-minute salvation. A wide variety of typological readings fashion the bandit as the first to return to paradise and even a key participant in the pivotal moment of salvation-history. By around the late 4th century, the episode becomes a standard Good Friday lectionary reading and sermon topic in the East.
Book Synopsis Ancient Christian Writers - The Works of the Fathers in Translation - St Augustine: Against the Academics by : Johannes Quasten
Download or read book Ancient Christian Writers - The Works of the Fathers in Translation - St Augustine: Against the Academics written by Johannes Quasten and published by Read Books Ltd. This book was released on 2011-11-10 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Made up of three books that are the earliest extant works of St. Augustine, these works claim to give a reliable picture of the mind and way of life of one of the greatest figures of the West, precisely at the moment that was for him most critical and vital. Augustine's Confessions and his earliest philosophical writings, represented here, are his most accessible extant works. Although his pieces are against pagan Platonism they represent the thought world which he and many other educated persons, pagan and Christian, inhabited at the time.
