Book excerpt: Transistor Electronics: Use of Semiconductor Components in Switching Operations presents the semiconductor components as well as their elementary circuits. This book discusses the scope of application of electronic devices to increase productivity. Organized into eight chapters, this book begins with an overview of the general equation for the representation of integer positive numbers. This text then examines the properties and characteristics of basic electronic components, which relates to an understanding of the operation of semiconductors. Other chapters consider the electronic circuit arrangements containing semiconductor component parts. This book discusses as well the comprehensive unification and standardization of elementary circuits and their conditions of connection that allow the rational development, manufacture, and maintenance of electronic devices. The final chapter deals with the use of elementary, standardized circuits, which permits rational high production rates. This book is primarily intended for design and development engineers and technicians. Students who wish to make Electronics their career will also find this book useful.

Book excerpt: It gives me great pleasure to learn that this book, whose ori gin owes much to the work of American scientists and engineers on semiconductor technology, will reach American and other English speaking readers. I am grateful to Plenum Publishing Corporation for arranging the American edition of this book and to Mr. Albin Tybulewicz for his translation, September 5, 1968 Yu. R. Nosov v Preface to the Russian Edition One of the most important applications of semiconductor diodes is their use in electronic pulse circuits. The response of these diodes under switching conditions is governed by the phenomena of accumulation and dispersal of non equlibrium carriers, which are also observed in other p-n junction devices. It was found in the late 1940's that when point-contact ger manium diodes were used in circuits through which short (several tenths of a microsecond) electrical pulses were being passed, the 1 effective reverse resistance of these diodes decreased considerably below the static value. Further studies showed that when a diode was switched rapidly from the forward to the reverse direction, an anomalously large reverse current flowed for some time. In view of the importance of this phenomenon in the efforts to reduce the response time of pulse circuits, many investigations of the phenomenon were carried out and these investigations pro vided the basis of a theory of transient processes in semiconductor diodes.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Diode, Transistor and FET Circuits Manual is a handbook of circuits based on discrete semiconductor components such as diodes, transistors, and FETS. The book also includes diagrams and practical circuits. The book describes basic and special diode characteristics, heat wave-rectifier circuits, transformers, filter capacitors, and rectifier ratings. The text also presents practical applications of associated devices, for example, zeners, varicaps, photodiodes, or LEDs, as well as it describes bipolar transistor characteristics. The transistor can be used in three basic amplifier configurations, such as common-collector, common-emitter, or common-base. Oscillators and multivibrators use transistors as linear amplifying elements or as digital switching elements, respectively. In other practical applications, bipolar transistors are used in audio pre-amp, tone control, and power amplifier applications. For example, the book illustrates the ideal form and location of the volume control where it is fully d.c-isolated from the pre-amplifier's output. The book cites other applications of transistor circuits in a noise limiter, in astable multivibrators, in L-C oscillators, and in lie detectors. This book is suitable for radio, television, and electronics technicians, design and application engineers, and students in electronics or radio communications.

Book excerpt: From power electronics to power integrated circuits (PICs), smart power technologies, devices, and beyond, Integrated Power Devices and TCAD Simulation provides a complete picture of the power management and semiconductor industry. An essential reference for power device engineering students and professionals, the book not only describes the physics inside integrated power semiconductor devices such lateral double-diffused metal oxide semiconductor field-effect transistors (LDMOSFETs), lateral insulated-gate bipolar transistors (LIGBTs), and super junction LDMOSFETs but also delivers a simple introduction to power management systems. Instead of abstract theoretical treatments and daunting equations, the text uses technology computer-aided design (TCAD) simulation examples to explain the design of integrated power semiconductor devices. It also explores next generation power devices such as gallium nitride power high electron mobility transistors (GaN power HEMTs). Including a virtual process flow for smart PIC technology as well as a hard-to-find technology development organization chart, Integrated Power Devices and TCAD Simulation gives students and junior engineers a head start in the field of power semiconductor devices while helping to fill the gap between power device engineering and power management systems.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For some time there has been a need for a semiconductor device book that carries diode and transistor theory beyond an introductory level and yet has space to touch on a wider range of semiconductor device principles and applica tions. Such topics are covered in specialized monographs numbering many hun dreds, but the voluminous nature of this literature limits access for students. This book is the outcome of attempts to develop a broad course on devices and integrated electronics for university students at about senior-year level. The edu cational prerequisites are an introductory course in semiconductor junction and transistor concepts, and a course on analog and digital circuits that has intro duced the concepts of rectification, amplification, oscillators, modulation and logic and SWitching circuits. The book should also be of value to professional engineers and physicists because of both, the information included and the de tailed guide to the literature given by the references. The aim has been to bring some measure of order into the subject area examined and to provide a basic structure from which teachers may develop themes that are of most interest to students and themselves. Semiconductor devices and integrated circuits are reviewed and fundamental factors that control power levels, frequency, speed, size and cost are discussed. The text also briefly mentions how devices are used and presents circuits and comments on representative applications. Thus, the book seeks a balance be tween the extremes of device physics and circuit design.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electronic Concepts provides a detailed introduction to modern microelectronics. Equal emphasis is placed on analog and digital circuits, and the applications of particular devices and circuits are described within the context of actual electronic systems. The author begins with an overview of several important electronic systems, discussing in detail the types of signals that circuits are used to process. In the following chapters, he deals with individual devices. For each device he presents a brief physical description and demonstrates the use of different models in describing the device's behaviour in a particular circuit application. SPICE computer simulations are used throughout the text to supplement analytic descriptions. The book contains over 500 circuit diagrams and figures, over 400 homework problems, and over 100 simulation and design exercises. It includes many worked examples and is an ideal textbook for introductory courses in electronics. Laboratory experiments are available via the internet.

About The Book: Understanding basic operational and applications of electronic devices is fundamental in understanding the functional and design aspects of electronics techniques, sub-system or system irrespective of whether it is analog or digital. The study of electronics devices and circuits is essential since majority of electronics systems have both analog and digital content. Though present day electronics is dominated by linear and digital integrated circuits, the importance of discrete devices cannot be undervalued as they continue to be used in large numbers in a variety of electronic circuits. In addition, understanding operational basics of these devices makes it easier to understand more complex integrated circuits. This textbook covers electronic devices and circuits in entirety, for undergraduate and graduate level courses. This study is pertinent for students of electronics, electrical, communication, instrumentation and control, information technology and even computer science engineering.
