Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the rapid emergence of Industry 4.0, there has been a significant shift towards digitization in the manufacturing industry by utilizing various Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). ICT has made significant improvements within the last decade, achieving faster communication between entities in a large-scale network. This increases the significance of data that is flowing through the manufacturing environment. Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) machines are the key tool in modern manufacturing with its capability to machine parts to high accuracy. Machine Tool 4.0 is one of the main concepts introduced in Industry 4.0. ACyber-Physical Machine Tool (CPMT) is a concept that is a part of Machine Tool 4.0 that aims to reflect both physical real-time and static machining data in a CNC machine by creating a Digital Twin (DT) in the digital domain. The data reflected in the DT will be stored and analyzed for anomaly detection, machining parameter optimization, and knowledgebase creation. GMcodes are the current de facto standard used to program CNC machine tools for operation. However, GM codes are effectively a series of commands that only dictate the machine motion and lack any other machining information. Standard for the Exchange of Product data compliant Numerical Control (STEP-NC) is an alternative standard to GM codes that contains richer machining information. The use of STEP-NC enables the establishment of a machining knowledge base for optimal machining parameter selection. Many companies and organizations are currently dependent on outsourcing their manufacturing to external suppliers. Each supplier will be at a different skill level with different systems that cannot be controlled that may lead to quality assurance issues across each supplier. The skill level of a manufacturing factory is heavily dependent on human senses and skills that operate any machine tool, including CNC machines. It takes a considerable amount of time for an individual to gain sufficient experience in order to operate a machine tool according to its physical conditions effectively. The skills and experience of an individual cannot be inherited onto other individuals; therefore, it is difficult to maintain a consistent skill level within a single factory. A CPMT framework is developed upon a self-established machining knowledgebase to integrate advanced intelligence into the CNC machine to achieve a "Smart" CNC machine. A "Smart" CNC machine provides a sustainable solution to the manufacturing field by its autonomous self-learning and decision-making capabilities to perform optimization and anomaly detection tasks. Unlike the "Dumb" classical CNC machines, the "Smart" CNC machines will be aware of precisely what is being machined by the use of STEP-NC along with its self conditions through its DT.
Book Synopsis Global Value Chain Development Report 2019 by : World Tourism Organization
Download or read book Global Value Chain Development Report 2019 written by World Tourism Organization and published by World Trade Organization. This book was released on 2019-06-04 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Global value chains (GVCs) are evolving in light of technological developments, such as robotics, big data and the Internet of Things. These technologies are reshaping GVCs and effecting changes on labor markets in developed and developing economies and on supply chain management. This report discusses how technological developments are creating new opportunities for the participation of small and medium-sized enterprises in global value chains and reviews issues related to GVC measurement. The report is a follow-up to the first Global Value Chain Development Report, which revealed the changing nature of international trade when analyzed in terms of value chains and value-added trade. This report is co-published by the World Trade Organization, the Institute of Developing Economies (IDE-JETRO), the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, the Research Center of Global Value Chains headquartered at the University of International Business and Economics (RCGVC-UIBE), the World Bank Group, and the China Development Research Foundation.
