Book Synopsis Differential Equations from the Algebraic Standpoint by : Joseph Fels Ritt
Download or read book Differential Equations from the Algebraic Standpoint written by Joseph Fels Ritt and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1932-12-31 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book can be viewed as a first attempt to systematically develop an algebraic theory of nonlinear differential equations, both ordinary and partial. The main goal of the author was to construct a theory of elimination, which ``will reduce the existence problem for a finite or infinite system of algebraic differential equations to the application of the implicit function theorem taken with Cauchy's theorem in the ordinary case and Riquier's in the partial.'' In his 1934 review of the book, J. M. Thomas called it ``concise, readable, original, precise, and stimulating'', and his words still remain true. A more fundamental and complete account of further developments of the algebraic approach to differential equations is given in Ritt's treatise Differential Algebra, written almost 20 years after the present work (Colloquium Publications, Vol. 33, American Mathematical Society, 1950).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For courses in Differential Equations and Linear Algebra. Acclaimed authors Edwards and Penney combine core topics in elementary differential equations with those concepts and methods of elementary linear algebra needed for a contemporary combined introduction to differential equations and linear algebra. Known for its real-world applications and its blend of algebraic and geometric approaches, this text discusses mathematical modeling of real-world phenomena, with a fresh new computational and qualitative flavor evident throughout in figures, examples, problems, and applications. In the Third Edition, new graphics and narrative have been added as needed-yet the proven chapter and section structure remains unchanged, so that class notes and syllabi will not require revision for the new edition.
Book Synopsis Elementary Differential Equations by : William E. Boyce
Download or read book Elementary Differential Equations written by William E. Boyce and published by Wiley. This book was released on 2012-10-02 with total page 672 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Elementary Differential Equations, 10th Edition is written from the viewpoint of the applied mathematician, whose interest in differential equations may sometimes be quite theoretical and sometimes intensely practical. The authors have sought to combine a sound and accurate exposition of the elementary theory of differential equations with considerable material on methods of solution, analysis, and approximation that have proved useful in a wide variety of applications. While the general structure of the book remains unchanged, some notable changes have been made to improve the clarity and readability of basic material about differential equations and their applications. In addition to expanded explanations, the 10th edition includes new problems, updated figures and examples to help motivate students.

The authors have sought to combine a sound and accurate (but not abstract) exposition of the elementary theory of differential equations with considerable material on methods of solution, analysis, and approximation that have proved useful in a wide variety of applications. While the general structure of the book remains unchanged, some notable changes have been made to improve the clarity and readability of basic material about differential equations and their applications. In addition to expanded explanations, the 11th edition includes new problems, updated figures and examples to help motivate students. The program is primarily intended for undergraduate students of mathematics, science, or engineering, who typically take a course on differential equations during their first or second year of study. The main prerequisite for engaging with the program is a working knowledge of calculus, gained from a normal two ] or three ] semester course sequence or its equivalent. Some familiarity with matrices will also be helpful in the chapters on systems of differential equations.
