Die vorliegende Arbeit untersucht empirische Studien zur Vater-Kind-Bindung. Immer wieder wird bemängelt, dass zu wenig auf diesem Gebiet geforscht wird. Zum einen könnte man dies damit erklären, dass es sich bei der Vater-Kind-Bindung noch um ein relativ junges Forschungsgebiet handelt, zum anderen erschwert die Komplexität der Zusammenhänge und die Heterogenität der Befundlage die Darstellung eines relativ einheitlichen Bildes. Diese Arbeit soll einen Beitrag leisten, jüngere Forschungsergebnisse strukturiert darzulegen. Zunächst werden für diese Arbeit relevante Begriffe der Bindungstheorie erläutert, ohne die ein Verständnis des Themas nicht möglich ist. Des Weiteren werden verschiedene Etappen der Vater-Kind-Bindungsforschung dargestellt, wodurch die Relevanz jüngerer Forschungsergebnisse in diesem Kontext deutlicher wird. Aus vorangegangener Forschung werden die Forschungsfragen dieser Arbeit hergeleitet. Die in einer Tabelle aufgeführten Studien wurden im Hinblick auf zwei Aspekte ausgewählt und untersucht; Faktoren, die eine sichere Vater-Kind-Bindung begünstigen, und Auswirkungen, die diese Bindung auf die Entwicklung des Kindes hat.

Philip is kept near the forefront, and issues and events are often seen - if sometimes critically - from his viewpoint. It is, therefore, a work of revision and rehabilitation, representing an attempt (against all other extant accounts) to establish Philip IV as a positive figure, with an autonomous character and political identity. A secondary, supportive, intention is to demonstrate that after the fall of Olivares, the king ruled and governed without a favourite (valido). This is the central theme in the most detailed treatment of the second half of the reign available in any language. Reference is made throughout to Philip's own words and actions. At the same time, the Olivares period itself is approached from a new perspective, some issues being examined with the use of new material. Although not intended as a conventional biography, the book retains several characteristics of the form, in that it is a 'career-study', part thematic, part chronological. Philip IV is examined also in relation to the political writing of the age, and to his court and capital in Madrid.

Book excerpt: Anthropologists have written a great deal about the coastal adaptations and seafaring traditions of Pacific Islanders, but have had much less to say about the significance of rivers for Pacific island culture, livelihood and identity. The authors of this collection seek to fill that gap in the ethnographic record by drawing attention to the deep historical attachments of island communities to rivers, and the ways in which those attachments are changing in response to various forms of economic development and social change. In addition to making a unique contribution to Pacific island ethnography, the authors of this volume speak to a global set of issues of immense importance to a world in which water scarcity, conflict, pollution and the degradation of riparian environments afflict growing numbers of people. Several authors take a political ecology approach to their topic, but the emphasis here is less on hydro-politics than on the cultural meaning of rivers to the communities we describe. How has the cultural significance of rivers shifted as a result of colonisation, development and nation-building? How do people whose identities are fundamentally rooted in their relationship to a particular river renegotiate that relationship when the river is dammed to generate hydro-power or polluted by mining activities? How do blockages in the flow of rivers and underground springs interrupt the intergenerational transmission of local ecological knowledge and hence the ability of local communities to construct collective identities rooted in a sense of place?

Through studies from several European countries, the book showcases how legal regulations and social policies influence parental and child well-being after divorce and separation. It also illustrates how social policies are interwoven with the normative fabric of a country. For example, it is shown that father-child contact after separation is more intense in those countries which have adopted policies that encourage shared parenting. Correspondingly, countries that have adopted these regulations are at the forefront of more egalitarian gender role attitudes. Apart from a strong emphasis on the legal and social policy context, the studies in this volume adopt a longitudinal perspective and situate post-separation behaviour and well-being in the life course. The longitudinal perspective opens up new avenues for research to understand how behaviour and conditions prior or at divorce and separation affect later behaviour and well-being.
