Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Did Jesus Live 100 B. C. : An Enquiry Into the Talmud Jesus Stories, the Toldoth Jeschu, and Some Curious Statements of Epiphanius Being a Contribution to the Study of Christian Origins When some five and a half centuries before the Christian era the Buddha arose in ancient Āryāvarta to substitute actuality for tradition, to break down the barriers of convention, and throw open the Way of Righteousness to all, irrespective of race or birth, we are told that He set aside the ancestral scriptures of His race and times, and preached a Gospel of self-reliance and a freedom from bibliolatry that will ever keep His memory green among the independent thinkers of the world. When the Christ arose in Judæa, once more to break down the barriers of exclusiveness, and preach the Way to the 'Amme ha-aretz, the rejected of the ceremonialists and legal purists, we are told that He extended the ægis of His great authority over the ancient writings of His fellow-countrymen, and cited the Torah as the very Law of God Himself. We are assured by Traditionalists that the Incarnation of Deity Itself, the very Giver of that Law, explicitly attested the genuineness of the Five Books; He, with His inerrant wisdom, asserted that Moses wrote them, just as it was believed by the people of His day. Download or read book Jesus written by Alvar Ellegard and published by Random House. This book was released on 2011-12-31 with total page 445 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The starting point for the book is the following anomoly: If Jesus lived as has been supposed at the beginning of the 1st century AD, the only NT documents written by a near contemporary, the Epistles of St Paul, make no mention of him as an historical figure, neither do they record any of his sayings, but rather they talk of him as a vision or mystical experience of the risen Christ. Further, the same is true of the earliest Christian non-NT texts, such as the Epistles of St Clement, roughly contemporary with Paul. Furthermore, contemporary records of the region from non-Christian sources, such as those by the Jewish historian Josephus, fail to mention Jesus at all where we would expect them to; the mentions that there are have recently been shown to be later interpolations by medieval Christian apologists - the gospel accounts of Jesus and his millieu are inaccurate in all major respects e. g. the relative dates of Herod and Pilate, if contemporary Roman and Jewish historians, who had no theological axe to grind, are taken as measure. By comparative textual studies, the author shows that the gospel accounts of Jesus' life and sayings were written approximately 100 years after Jesus is supposed to have lived, and so 100 years later than alleged contemporaries such as Paul, Clement, Josephus etc.

Book Synopsis Unraveling the Family History of Jesus by : Steven Donald Norris
Download or read book Unraveling the Family History of Jesus written by Steven Donald Norris and published by . This book was released on 2020-10-05 with total page 604 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Unraveling the Family History of Jesus is a scholarly attempt to identify all of the persons related to Jesus from 100 BC through 100 AD. Almost all of the significant persons mentioned in the New Testament were in fact related to Jesus in one way or another Starting with the earliest Kings of Judea from 100 BC Mr. Norris shows exactly which Kings were his great grandparents. In making this discovery he puts "flesh and blood" on the names = mentioned in the genealogy of Luke and Matthew. In particular, he discovered that "Matthat", the great grandfather of Jesus named in Luke's gospel, was in fact Antigonus Mattathias II, the last King of Judea. "Matthat" was his nickname, named after his Jewish name Mattathias, but his name in all ancient history, and especially in Flavius Josephus' works, was Antigonus. He thus has remained "hidden" from Biblical scholars for nearly 2000 years. Once this identity is known, however, it becomes clearer just how Jesus had a legitimate claim to the throne of Judea. By learning about the larger family of Anitgonus Mattathias we also learn about Jesus' great uncles and aunts and find that they were deeply involved in the events that led to the rise of Jesus, his death and resurrection, and the eventual destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD. Similar revelations are presented on the other side of Jesus' family, the extended family of his supposed father Joseph of Nazareth. In addition, Mr. Norris shows clearly that Joseph was not a "poor carpenter" but was in fact a rabbi and a scholar and was undoubtedly quite wealthy (his father was the Patriarch of Jerusalem who received tax funds from the Roman Empire). When this is all presented it shows a much clearer picture of the surroundings in which Jesus taught and explains how he was able to be an " itinerant preacher" and not have to work for a living.
