Book Synopsis Diagnostics and Prognostics of Aerospace Engines by : Ravi Rajamani
Download or read book Diagnostics and Prognostics of Aerospace Engines written by Ravi Rajamani and published by SAE International. This book was released on 2018-11-28 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The propulsion system is arguably the most critical part of the aircraft; it certainly is the single most expensive component of the vehicle. Ensuring that engines operate reliably without major maintenance issues is an important goal for all operators, military or commercial. Engine health management (EHM) is a critical piece of this puzzle and has been a part of the engine maintenance for more than five decades. In fact, systematic condition monitoring was introduced for engines before it was applied to other systems on the aircraft. Diagnostics and Prognostics of Aerospace Engines is a collection of technical papers from the archives of SAE International, which introduces the reader to a brief history of EHM, presents some examples of EHM functions, and outlines important future trends. The goal of engine health maintenance is ultimately to reduce the cost of operations by catching problems before they become major issues, by helping reduce repair times through diagnostics, and by facilitating logistic optimization through prognostic estimates. Diagnostics and Prognostics of Aerospace Engines shows that the essence of these goals has not changed over time.
Book Synopsis Mechanical Fault Diagnosis and condition monitoring by : R. Collacott
Download or read book Mechanical Fault Diagnosis and condition monitoring written by R. Collacott and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 505 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although the most sophisticated fault diagnosis and condition monitoring systems have their origin in the aerospace and nuclear energy industries, their use is by no means restricted to such areas of 'high technology'. Modern machinery in most industrial plants is now so complex and expensive that mechanics find it increas ingly difficult to detect failure by, for instance, recognising changes in sound 'signatures', and few plants can afford the luxury of regular 'stripping down'. Increasingly, therefore, eady-warning devices are being employed in an effort to prevent catastrophic breakdown. This book provides the first co-ordinated compilation of fault diagnosis and con dition monitoring devices. It proceeds in three logical steps. The eady chapters deal with those conditions which contribute to deterioration and the consequent likely development of faults. The middle part of the book considers the various tech niques of monitoring and discusses the criteria for their selection in different situ ations. The final chapters provide a guide to the interpretation of the information signals deriving from monitoring, relating to reliability science and the mathematics of probability, and thus providing decision data on which management can act.

Book Synopsis Condition Monitoring and Diagnosis of Automobile Engine by : Arulogun Oladiran Tayo
Download or read book Condition Monitoring and Diagnosis of Automobile Engine written by Arulogun Oladiran Tayo and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2012-05 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The early detection of the malfunctions and faults is crucial for performance and reliability of automobiles. In the last millennium, the existing automobile on-board diagnosis systems were incapable of diagnosing some faults such as loss of engine compression, plug-not-firing and carburettor. This set of faults is very important to be detected, and more so that, automobile systems of the future will be autonomous and a self driven system with little or no human interventions. A new condition monitoring approach that uses the sense of smell was investigated to diagnose the faults of plug-not-firing, loss of compression and carburettor fault. An electronic nose based condition monitoring hardware and software was developed to obtain a smell print of the exhaust fumes of an automobile gasoline engine in different operating conditions. This work presents results of experiments based on the data obtained (1400 x 10 data samples each for ten (10) fault classes) from the developed condition monitoring scheme for gasoline fuelled automobile engine using four different algorithms.
Book Synopsis Combustion Engine Diagnosis by : Rolf Isermann
Download or read book Combustion Engine Diagnosis written by Rolf Isermann and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-05-04 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers first a short introduction to advanced supervision, fault detection and diagnosis methods. It then describes model-based methods of fault detection and diagnosis for the main components of gasoline and diesel engines, such as the intake system, fuel supply, fuel injection, combustion process, turbocharger, exhaust system and exhaust gas aftertreatment. Additionally, model-based fault diagnosis of electrical motors, electric, pneumatic and hydraulic actuators and fault-tolerant systems is treated. In general series production sensors are used. It includes abundant experimental results showing the detection and diagnosis quality of implemented faults. Written for automotive engineers in practice, it is also of interest to graduate students of mechanical and electrical engineering and computer science.

Book Synopsis On-line Condition Monitoring in Industrial Lubrication and Tribology by : Nikolai K. Myshkin
Download or read book On-line Condition Monitoring in Industrial Lubrication and Tribology written by Nikolai K. Myshkin and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-07-24 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers readers a concise yet comprehensive introduction to a set of diagnostic methods for on-line condition monitoring of lubricated tribosystems used in industry. It covers the latest trends in on-line tribodiagnostics, an important and rapidly developing area of tribology. The book also reports on new tools as they have been developed and applied by the authors. A special emphasis is given to the physical fundamentals of opto-magnetic detectors, ferro-analyzers and analyzers of metal particles in lubricated tribosystems, as well as fluorescence methods for real-time oil monitoring in compressors, hydraulic systems and electrical transformers. Further, the book discusses other important issues such as the monitoring of water content in oil, and presents techniques for measuring soot content in oil in diesel engine oils. Lastly, it describes the modular intelligent (SMART) diagnostic system for vehicles. Mainly intended for researchers, industrial and automotive engineers developing cost-effective techniques and sensors for the on-line monitoring of lubricating oil, the book also offers a valuable source of information for students and project managers in the manufacturing, energy, oil and gas, and automotive industry.

Book Synopsis An Analysis and Synthesis of Engine Condition Monitoring Systems by : Jack W Chapman (jr)
Download or read book An Analysis and Synthesis of Engine Condition Monitoring Systems written by Jack W Chapman (jr) and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Engine condition monitoring systems have been developed to assist flight line maintenance activities and aid in the transition of aircraft engine maintenance philosophy from that of maximum operating time to reliability centered or on condition maintenance. This study includes a comprehensive review of past, current, and proposed Air Force applications of turbine engine monitoring systems to describe the major features of TEMS. Engine performance data output from TEMS to the various engine management functions are analyzed. The authors conclude that TEMS data and the existing or proposed engine management systems are not directly compatible. Moreover, the analysis indicates that implementation of TEMS and an on condition maintenance policy would require a greatly expanded data base to accomplish the required engine management record keeping, monitoring, and forecasting tasks. Several recommendations are offered for interfacing TEMS with the engine management systems. Areas for further research are suggested. (Author).
