Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Areas of ongoing research that highlight the minimally invasive approach as well as incorporating what we know of the biochemical results of surgery are presented. Highly Commended Certificate of the 2006 BMA Medical Book Competition The metabolic syndrome is a highly prevalent condition that affects a considerate number of adults and has become increasingly relevant to many disciplines in clinical medicine. This title examines the pathogenesis of metabolic syndrome and its relationship with diabetes and coronary heart disease (CHD), and reviews different treatment options. It covers all aspects of the metabolic syndrome and its constituent diseases. The editors of this key title, Christopher D. Byrne, a diabetologist and clinician scientist, and Sarah H. Wild, an epidemiologist and public health physician, have brought together a group of authors, all of who are leading researchers in their field. The editors and chapter authors of this outstanding reference work have each contributed to chapters addressing ‘hot topics’ relevant to the metabolic syndrome. The state-of-the-art chapters range from aetiology to pathogenesis, complications and treatment, addressing subjects such as the developmental origins of the metabolic syndrome, oxidation, inflammation and exciting new areas such as non-alcoholic steatohepatitis and adipocytokines.
Download or read book Consecuencias de obesidad y síndrome metabólico en diálisis written by Abraham Rincón Bello and published by . This book was released on 2021 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis The Metabolic Syndrome by : Antonio Tiengo
Download or read book The Metabolic Syndrome written by Antonio Tiengo and published by Elsevier Science Health Science Division. This book was released on 2003 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the papers presented at "The 8th European Symposium on Metabolism". It provides a comprehensive and updated evaluation of the possible role of insulin resistance in the pathogenesis of a cluster of major risk factors for cardiovascular disease. Insulin resistance was recognized as a feature and a pathogenetic mechanism in pathological states such as type 2 diabetes mellitus and obesity. More recently, however, it has become apparent that impairment in insulin action may be shared by a variety of conditions not necessarily associated with diabetes or obesity such as hypertension and endothelial dysfunction. It leads not only to metabolic but also to hemodynamic alterations and to proinflammatory reactions. Therefore, The Metabolic Syndrome is a disorder in which not only the "response to injury" concept is operative but also the substrate alterations and the pathophysiology of the arterial wall are strictly interconnected in a complex web of reactions, leading to atherosclerotic plaques. This volume represents a comprehensive review of genetics, epidemiology, physiolopathology, cardiovascular complications and therapy of insulin resistance.
