Book Synopsis Development of Monolithic CMOS-compatible Visible Light Emitting Diode Arrays on Silicon by : Kamesh Chilukuri
Download or read book Development of Monolithic CMOS-compatible Visible Light Emitting Diode Arrays on Silicon written by Kamesh Chilukuri and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 103 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The synergies associated with integrating Si-based CMOS ICs and III-V-material-based light-emitting devices are very exciting and such integration has been an active area of research and development for quite some time now. SiGe virtual substrate technology presents one way to integrate these materials. A more practical approach to monolithic integration based on the SiGe virtual substrate technology was followed in this work which involves wafer bonding and hydrogen-induced exfoliation to transfer a thin layer of device-quality silicon on top of the SiGe graded buffers to produce Silicon on Lattice Engineered Substrate (SOLES). SOLES wafers are suitable for the practical fabrication of SOI CMOS circuits and III-V-based photonic devices on a common silicon substrate. A novel monolithic CMOS compatible AlGaInP visible LED array on the SOLES platform was developed, fabricated and demonstrated in this work. The prototype array is an important breakthrough in the realization of the ultimate objective - monolithically integrated optical interconnects in high speed digital systems.

Book Synopsis Diffraction Radiation from Relativistic Particles by : Alexander Potylitsyn
Download or read book Diffraction Radiation from Relativistic Particles written by Alexander Potylitsyn and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-10-11 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with diffraction radiation, which implies the boundary problems of electromagnetic radiation theory. Diffraction radiation is generated when a charged particle moves near a target edge at a distance ( – Lorentz factor, – wave length). Diffraction radiation of non-relativistic particles is widely used to design intense emitters in the cm wavelength range. Diffraction radiation from relativistic charged particles is important for noninvasive beam diagnostics and design of free electron lasers based on Smith-Purcell radiation which is diffraction radiation from periodic structures. Different analytical models of diffraction radiation and results of recent experimental studies are presented in this book. The book may also serve as guide to classical electrodynamics applications in beam physics and electrodynamics. It can be of great use for young researchers to develop skills and for experienced scientists to obtain new results.
Book Synopsis Semiconductor Detector Systems by : Helmuth Spieler
Download or read book Semiconductor Detector Systems written by Helmuth Spieler and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2005-08-25 with total page 513 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Semiconductor sensors patterned at the micron scale combined with custom-designed integrated circuits have revolutionized semiconductor radiation detector systems. Designs covering many square meters with millions of signal channels are now commonplace in high-energy physics and the technology is finding its way into many other fields, ranging from astrophysics to experiments at synchrotron light sources and medical imaging. This book is the first to present a comprehensive discussion of the many facets of highly integrated semiconductor detector systems, covering sensors, signal processing, transistors and circuits, low-noise electronics, and radiation effects. The diversity of design approaches is illustrated in a chapter describing systems in high-energy physics, astronomy, and astrophysics. Finally a chapter "Why things don't work" discusses common pitfalls. Profusely illustrated, this book provides a unique reference in a key area of modern science.
Download or read book Photon Counting written by Nikolay Britun and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2018-03-21 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Photon counting is a unified name for the techniques using single-photon detection for accumulative measurements of the light flux, normally occurring under extremely low-light conditions. Nowadays, this approach can be applied to the wide variety of the radiation wavelengths, starting from X-ray and deep ultraviolet transitions and ending with far-infrared part of the spectrum. As a special tribute to the photon counting, the studies of cosmic microwave background radiation in astronomy, the experiments with muon detection, and the large-scale fundamental experiments on the nature of matter should be noted. The book provides readers with an overview on the fundamentals and state-of-the-art applications of photon counting technique in the applied science and everyday life.

Book Synopsis Beam-Wave Interaction in Periodic and Quasi-Periodic Structures by : Levi Schächter
Download or read book Beam-Wave Interaction in Periodic and Quasi-Periodic Structures written by Levi Schächter and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-06-27 with total page 451 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main theme of this book is the interaction of electrons with electromagnetic waves in the presence of periodic and quasi-periodic structures in vacuum, in view of applications in the design and operation of particle accelerators. The first part of the book is concerned with the textbook-like presentation of the basic material, in particular reviewing elementary electromagnetic phenomena and electron dynamics. The second part of the book describes the current models for beam-wave interactions with periodic and quasi-periodic structures. This is the basis for introducing, in the last part of the book, a number of particle and radiation sources that rest on these principles, in particular the free-electron laser, wake-field acceleration schemes and a number of other advanced particle accelerator concepts. This second edition brings this fundamental text up-to-date in view of the enormous advances that have been made over the last decade since the first edition was published. All chapters, as well as the bibliography, have been significantly revised and extended, and the number of end-of-chapter exercises has been further increased to enhance this book’s usefulness for teaching specialized graduate courses.
Book Synopsis Seeing Photons by : National Research Council
Download or read book Seeing Photons written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2010-09-28 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Department of Defense recently highlighted intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities as a top priority for U.S. warfighters. Contributions provided by ISR assets in the operational theaters in Iraq and Afghanistan have been widely documented in press reporting. While the United States continues to increase investments in ISR capabilities, other nations not friendly to the United States will continue to seek countermeasures to U.S. capabilities. The Technology Warning Division of the Defense Intelligence Agency's (DIA) Defense Warning Office (DWO) has the critical responsibility, in collaborations with other components of the intelligence community (IC), for providing U.S. policymakers insight into technological developments that may impact future U.S. warfighting capabilities. To this end, the IC requested that the National Research Council (NRC) investigate and report on key visible and infrared detector technologies, with potential military utility, that are likely to be developed in the next 10-15 years. This study is the eighth in a series sponsored by the DWO and executed under the auspices of the NRC TIGER (Technology Insight-Gauge, Evaluate, and Review) Standing Committee.

Download or read book Photonic Devices written by Jia-ming Liu and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2009-06-11 with total page 1108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Photonic devices lie at the heart of the communications revolution, and have become a large and important part of the electronic engineering field, so much so that many colleges now treat this as a subject in its own right. With this in mind, the author has put together a unique textbook covering every major photonic device, and striking a careful balance between theoretical and practical concepts. The book assumes a basic knowledge of optics, semiconductors and electromagnetic waves. Many of the key background concepts are reviewed in the first chapter. Devices covered include optical fibers, couplers, electro-optic devices, magneto-optic devices, lasers and photodetectors. Problems are included at the end of each chapter and a solutions set is available. The book is ideal for senior undergraduate and graduate courses, but being device driven it is also an excellent engineers' reference.
