Book excerpt: Education is one of the most authentic tool for socio-economic mobility and a key instrument for building an equitable, just and human society. It aims at developing enviable character image in the student rather than imposing a quantum of knowledge. Being an integrative force in society, education can impart values, provide skills and competencies to students, and foster social cohesion and national identity. The task of education is to inculcate desirable psychological and affective qualities among students along with cognitive advancement. By considering these aspects, the investigator judiciously develops two value based strategies namely UNIQUE Strategy and BAND Strategy based on the existing pedagogical strands to ensure effective value education at higher secondary level.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The second volume in the Research in Management Consulting series focuses on developing knowledge and value in management consulting. While there has been an exponential explosion in both the presence and role played by management consultants, the exact nature of their contribution —to client organizations, to our understanding of management and organization, to our comprehension of the increasingly complex dynamics associated with business in a global marketplace, and to the development of their own firms—remains ambiguous. Just as the business world is experiencing rapid and, at times, volatile change, the consulting industry itself is also facing unprecedented change and challenge. Over the next decade, forecasts suggest a world of difference for management consulting, from different competitors and different types of projects and assignments, to different skill sets and different fee structures, to different client expectations.

Book excerpt: Total Value Development provides a framework to help businesses innovate and derive greater value from the services they offer. The secret is to devise an innovative model built on total value creation, identified as the total value development (TVD) model. The TVD model has broad applicability for any large organization. Here, case studies are presented showing the effectiveness of the TVD model in its practical application within companies. Statistical evidence is used to recommend improvements to performance outcomes, such as time compression, cost reduction, quality and innovation. Studies of over 100 service enterprises in the United States and the United Kingdom provide compelling evidence for benefits from business model innovation. Additional material in the form of guidance forms give readers the tools needed for the implementation and recording of successful in-project value development.Providing both a practical framework and real-life examples of adding value to current business practices, this book is essential reading for executives, managers and researchers in the field of business and innovation.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ability of organisations to generate long-term value and growth depends to a very large extent on the capacity of the executive cohort to conceive and implement strategic initiatives through a well-motivated and enabled workforce. However, generating consistent value in today’s volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous (VUCA) and rapidly evolving digital economic landscape can be challenging and, therefore, executives need to update their capabilities regularly to align with the changing value drivers required for long-term growth. To achieve the expected value and growth at a more sustainable level, executive development must be managed as a strategic asset and optimised through effective design and implementation and the effects must be proactively evaluated through meaningful leading indicators and actual 'hard' measures. Value Creation through Executive Development, therefore, offers a well-supported and clearly structured approach to address the gap between executive development initiatives and the creation of long-term organisational value and growth. This book provides a valuable resource to executives and management development professionals who have experienced frustration about the lack of non-value-adding executive development programmes. It also serves as a professional resource for managers of executive and management development programmes, organisational development departments and organisational development consultants, allowing them to integrate this material into existing programmes to achieve value-centric outcomes and to achieve long-term performance targets. Additionally, it serves as a teaching resource for participants in executive/management development courses or seminars globally; offering them the capacity to conduct value-centric initiatives and gain the capacity to influence the tactical, operational and strategic dimensions of their organisational performance.

Yet, while some products born from intuition do make it big, many others crash and burn. The reason is that intuition is only one aspect of new product development. The other key ingredient of success is having a business model that outlines the ways in which new products will create market value. This book offers a systematic approach to identifying market opportunities and developing breakthrough business models. It outlines the key principles of business model generation, presents a value-based framework for developing viable new offerings, and provides a set of practical tools for creating a meaningful value proposition that drives market success. The business model framework outlined in this book applies to a wide range of companies—startups and established enterprises, consumer-packaged-goods companies and business-to-business enterprises, high-tech and low-tech ventures, online and brick-and-mortar entities, product manufacturers and value-added service providers, nonprofit organizations and profit-driven companies. Practical, actionable, and succinct, The Business Model is the essential reference and how-to guide for everyone seeking to achieve market success: from entrepreneurs to experienced managers, from senior executives to product designers, from those creating new market offerings to those improving on existing ones. This book is for those passionate about building great products that create market value and disrupt industries.

This book was released on 2020-03-26 with total page 71 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study examines interventions in two agricultural development projects in Ghana which aimed to build competitiveness of selected value chains to generate growth and reduce poverty – the Northern Rural Growth Project, implemented between 2009 and 2016, and the Market Oriented Agriculture Programme, which began in 2004 and is still in place. These projects aimed to sustainably increase rural households’ income through the development of inclusive and profitable agricultural commodity and food value chains to generate agricultural surpluses and to benefit from improved access to remunerative markets. In this study, the efficacy of four sorts of value chain interventions implemented by the two projects are examined in the context of the strengthening maize, pineapple, mango, and citrus value chains: • Facilitating interactions among value chain actors to encourage technical and institutional innovations, • Improving the operations of individual actors, such as producers, service providers, traders, and processors; • Helping develop new services for producers or initiating new producer institutions; and • Improving infrastructure. The study sought to identify how, where, and when might it be appropriate to intervene in value chains, particularly to benefit smallholders. While the lessons from this study do not comprehensively answer these questions, a better understanding is provided on the reasons behind the outcomes the projects attained in seeking to strengthen agricultural commodity value chains and some guidance is offered on how interventions aimed at doing so should be designed.

This book was released on 2021-11-19 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Value chain development can make significant contributions to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) because it is a powerful approach to address root causes and binding constraints that impede the sustainable development of food value chains. The first step in value chain development is selecting those value chains that, when upgraded, can have the biggest SDG impact. This publication provides practical guidelines on how to select value chains for which upgrading is feasible and impactful in terms of the potential for generating positive economic, social and environmental outcomes. The handbook describes a step-by-step process that helps to assess, compare and select value chains in a participatory and evidence-based manner. It presents a toolbox that can be customized to projects with different budgets, scopes and objectives. This publication forms part of a set of FAO handbooks on Sustainable Food Value Chain (SFVC) development, which together provide hands-on guidance for development practitioners, including international organizations, NGOs, regional bodies and national governments seeking to achieve sustainability objectives through agrifood value chain development projects.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this new volume, 28 Scandinavian researchers and others who are active in arts and culture seek to answer the questions: What has been the effect of regional and local investment in arts and culture? And what positive and negative experiences have there been? This book describes and analyzes the extent to which cultural investments at local and regional levels have stimulated development and led to essential processes of change for the community in general. Of special interest is how different places manage to "turn the tide". What do their development processes involve? Which ways and means do they use to go forward in order to change their paths and start anew? These are just a few of the important questions addressed in this book. One of the most important findings is that while you can never transfer the successful renewal of one place to another like a blueprint, certain common patterns in the cultural processes are discernible. The contributors to this book show the breadth of theoretical tools that can be used to increase awareness of the significance of culture for regional development. Throughout the book readers will find a multitude of theoretical concepts, from entrepreneurship theory, organizational institutionalism and cultural economy, to cultural planning and art management. This book will appeal to scholars and practitioners of urban and regional studies, and cultural and creative economics.

Book excerpt: This volume brings together marginalized perspectives and communities into the mainstream discourse on education for sustainable development and global citizenship. Building on her earlier work, Sharma uses non-western perspectives to challenge dominant agendas and the underlying Western worldview in the UNESCO led discourse on global citizenship education. Chapters develop the theoretical framework around the three domains of learning within the global citizenship education conceptual dimensions of UNESCO--the cognitive, socio-emotional, and behavioral--and offer practical insights for educators. Value-creating global citizenship education is offered as a pedagogical approach to education for sustainable development and global citizenship in addition to and complementing other approaches mentioned within the recent UNESCO guidelines.
