Book excerpt: Destiny's Warriors -- Special Science Fiction Edition (1st in the Series)Human Sacrifice... was mortal man no more than mere cattle for the ancient gods? Did the Sun Goddess and the God of the Moon, the Great Samhain merely harvest humans to satisfy an addition to quickening? Destiny's Warriors answers these questions. Ferrin Collins, archaeologist and professor living in modern day Belfast, goes out to explore for a possible dig-site and dozes off in the woods, dreaming as always of another time and place. When he awakes, he is in the past in ancient Ireland, with no idea how he will get by! Somehow, he stumbles onto his Destiny in the town of Erui. Ferrin meets a Druid called Wolf, who seems oddly familiar. During their time together, Wolf tells him the tale of Destiny's Warriors which is a tale of betrayal, murderous plots and revenge. What ensues is an exhilarating journey into the horrors of human sacrifice. Destiny's Warriors inspires its readers to empathize with the characters while they try to survive in an ancient, harsh world of magic, mystical creatures, horrific monsters and the brutality of war.A participant in Writer's Digest 17th International Self Published Book AwardsComments on Destiny's Warrior by Judge 24:First of a planned series, this time travel novel is very imaginative. The mix of present and the past is well meshed. The ancient Celtic/Druidic lives, customs and ceremonies are vividly and dramatically depicted. Descriptions of fierce battles and bloody human sacrifices are described in riveting and graphic terms. One can easily empathize with the emotions, actions and motives of the characters, both those who are mortal and those described as underworld immortals. The many quotes enliven relationships which give an absorbing glimpse into a yesteryear that manages to be ancient in physical description but relatively modern or universal on an emotional basis. Many black and white illustrations enhance the gripping tales of love, betrayal and revenge as a broad array of characters pursue their interacting destinies. Also available on Amazon: Destiny's Warriors The Beginning Book 1 and Destiny's Warriors The Last Sacrifice Book 2 in the series.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Will evil magic, revenge and murder result in the Last Sacrifice or will the Dreaded Lord of Blood fulfill the prophecy? Readers of The Last Sacrifice will be spellbound by the continuing story of Lord Gwydion's offspring: his sons Cormac, Swayzie and Beltene as they encounter Donait, the daughter of Rosilda and the picture of innocence, at least on the surface. Donait is sent by Rosilda to avenge Ragnarok and Sorcha by taking Gwydion down and overthrowing the throne. Donait, armed with a love potion that she uses liberally, affects the lives of everyone she touches, and the consequences that spiral from her meddling are dire. But they are all part of Destiny's plan... Going against her orders, Donait falls in love with Owain, who believes her to be a good soul and counters his own family, killing two to defend her. Having seduced several family members, Donait gives birth to a baby girl, Megan. Megan grows into a beauty with a warrior's heart and dreams of joining the Fianna. When she comes of age and is denied membership, all hell breaks loose...Cormac tries to protect her, but cannot do so at all times. When Megan meets what she feels might be her life mate, it's not at all a smooth transition and battles of blood and bone ensue. Great, deep love and bliss grow here with The Last Sacrifice, as do the hatred and venom of souls lost and betrayed. The way they entangle and intertwine throughout the novel is fascinating, and karmic lessons abound. The men and women in this sequel to Destiny's Warriors are beautiful and enchanting, and, utterly horrifying as the Lord of Blood, hunts down men, women and children, for the slaughter to feed his cannibalistic society. This epic tale of retribution, battles of will and affairs of the heart are to be devoured and at the same time savored as you travel from realm to realm within its pages.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book offers the first comprehensive account of the debate on true courage as it was raging in ancient Greece, from the times when the immensely influential Homeric epics, the Iliad and the Odyssey, were composed, to the period of the equally influential author, Aristotle. The many voices that contribute to this debate include poets, authors of ancient dramas and comedies, historians, politicians and philosophers. The book traces the origin of the earliest ideal of a courageous hero in the epic poems of Homer (8th century BCE), and faithfully records its transformations in later authors, which range from an emphatic denial of the Homeric standards of courage (as in comedies of Aristophanes and some Dialogues of Plato) to the strong revisionist tendencies of Aristotle, who attempts to restore genuine courage to its traditional place as an exclusively martial, male virtue. Without attempting to cover the whole of the Western history, the book is able to explore the most important primary Greek sources on the subject matter in greater details, and provide the reader with a comprehensive picture of the changes in both popular and philosophical conceptualizations of the standards of courage from the Archaic period to the middle of the 4th century BCE. A deeper understanding of the history of the debate on courage should help to shape the modern discussions as well, as it becomes obvious that many of the questions on courage and cowardice that are still raised by the contemporary authors from different fields, have been thoroughly considered during the early stages of Greek culture. The book seeks to undermine a common stereotype of a single, unified view on courage and cowardice in Ancient Greece and shows that the current debates on what constitutes genuine courageous character can be traced to the various direct and indirect discussions on this subject matter by the ancient authorities.

Book excerpt: In 1970, nine members of a Japanese New Left group called the Red Army Faction hijacked a domestic airliner to North Korea with dreams of acquiring the military training to bring about a revolution in Japan. The North Korean government accepted the hijackers—who became known in the media as the Yodogō group, based on the name of the hijacked plane—and two years later they announced their conversion to juche, North Korea’s new political ideology. Little was heard from the exiles until 1988, when a member of Yodogō was unexpectedly arrested in Japan, and communications with the group opened up in the context of his trial. As a former Red Army Faction member, journalist Kōji Takazawa made several trips to North Korea, reestablished his ties to the group’s leader Takamaro Tamiya, and helped to publish the group’s writings in Japan. After Kim Il Sung revealed that Yodogō members had Japanese wives, Takazawa published a book of interviews with the women, but in the process became suspicious about the romantic stories they told. He also wondered about the members who were missing and learned more details in long, private conversations with Tamiya. After Tamiya’s sudden death in 1995, Takazawa launched his own investigation of what the group had actually been doing for two decades, even traveling to Europe to follow traces there. An example of superb investigative journalism, Destiny: The Secret Operations of the Yodogō Exiles offers Kōji Takazawa’s powerful story of how he exposed the Yodogō group’s involvement in the kidnapping and luring of several young Japanese to North Korea, as well as the truth behind their Japanese wives’ presence in the country. Takazawa’s careful research was validated in 2002, when the North Korean government publicly acknowledged it had kidnapped thirteen Japanese citizens during the 1970s and 1980s, including three people whom Takazawa had connected to the Yodogō hijackers. Embedded in his pursuit toward what truly happened to the Yodogō members is Takazawa’s personal reflection of the 1970s, a decade when radical student activism swept Japan, and what it meant to those whose lives were forever changed.
