Book Synopsis Migration States and Welfare States: Why Is America Different from Europe? by : A. Razin
Download or read book Migration States and Welfare States: Why Is America Different from Europe? written by A. Razin and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-11-19 with total page 75 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the last three decades, Europe's generous social benefits have encouraged a massive surge of 'welfare migration,' especially of low skilled laborers. At the same time, the US has attracted many highly skilled migrants, which in turn promotes internal innovation. Restrictions on the international mobility of labor are arguably the largest policy obstructions for the international economy today. A variety of studies suggest that even a small reduction in barriers to migration will result in the growth of significant global welfare benefits. Migration States and Welfare States focuses on a central tension faced by policy makers in countries that receive migrants from lower wage countries. Such countries are typically highly productive and rich in capital. These attributes, coupled with the host country's welfare system, attract low-skilled migrants, who find a generous welfare state particularly attractive, while deterring skilled migrants, who recognize that welfare states likely have higher redistributive taxes.
Book Synopsis Boundary Blurred: A Seamless Customer Experience in Virtual and Real Spaces by : Nina Krey
Download or read book Boundary Blurred: A Seamless Customer Experience in Virtual and Real Spaces written by Nina Krey and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-11-27 with total page 612 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “We see our customers as invited guests to a party, and we are the hosts. It’s our job every day to make every important aspect of the customer experience a little bit better.” Jeff Bezos, Founder and CEO of Amazon.com This proceedings volume explores the ways in which marketers can learn about customers through big data and other sources to create an enhanced customer experience. Consumers today do not simply demand engaging online or offline experiences anymore; they increasingly focus on one seamless experience throughout their journey across virtual and real spaces. While shopping in a physical store, consumers are checking their smart phones for customer reviews and competitive information, and catching a Pokémon or two at the same time. Online experience is no longer only about price shopping and convenience, and offline is no longer only about SKUs. Individual channels matter less and less; it is the omni-channel experience that is becoming main-stream. Marketers need to keep pace and continually adapt and contribute to the changing consumer landscape. Through countless touchpoints across different channels and media, marketers today can learn more about their customers and are better equipped than ever to provide them with a desired augmented experience: easy, fun, engaging, and efficient. Featuring the full proceedings from the 2018 Academy of Marketing Science (AMS) Annual Conference held in New Orleans, Louisiana, this volume provides ground-breaking research from scholars and practitioner from around the world that will help marketers continue to engage their customers in this new landscape. Founded in 1971, the Academy of Marketing Science is an international organization dedicated to promoting timely explorations of phenomena related to the science of marketing in theory, research, and practice. Among its services to members and the community at large, the Academy offers conferences, congresses, and symposia that attract delegates from around the world. Presentations from these events are published in this Proceedings series, which offers a comprehensive archive of volumes reflecting the evolution of the field. Volumes deliver cutting-edge research and insights, complementing the Academy’s flagship journals, the Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science (JAMS) and AMS Review. Volumes are edited by leading scholars and practitioners across a wide range of subject areas in marketing science.

Book Synopsis Make No Mistake! by : C. Martin Hinckley
Download or read book Make No Mistake! written by C. Martin Hinckley and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2001-09-30 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With C. Martin Hinckley's new book Make No Mistake! An Outcome Based Approach to Mistake-Proofing, that vision can become a reality. If you work for a company that emphasizes traditional quality control methods, it's unlikely that you've seen defects eliminated despite your substantial efforts. Make No Mistake! clarifies the reasons why such traditional methods fail and shows how world-class quality can be achieved at a minimal cost through mistake-proofing — the practice of controlling virtually every source of potential errors. As the author states, "The great value of mistake-proofing is that, independent of the cause, psychological factor, production stage, or potential consequences, it blocks or warns about an undesired outcome at a point in the process when the consequences can be minimized." Truly the first of its kind, Make No Mistake! is a compendium of the best methods for reducing complexity, variation, confusion and the other root causes of defects — but the centerpiece of this powerful mistake-proofing tool is an outcome-based classification system that focuses on preventing rather than detecting defects. Even more importantly, Hinckley's mistake-proofing documentation forms will help you adapt this methodology to your own defect prevention efforts. Make No Mistake! is an amazing compilation of mistake-proofing tools that is encyclopedic in scope. Because mistake-proofing is a skill that improves through familiarity with previous solutions, Hinckley's new classification systems is the key to rapidly finding outstanding solutions to current problems on the shop floor. Make No Mistake! is one book that will be invaluable in your company's quest for quality. Make No Mistake! includes: Over 200 mistake-proofing examples from varied industries Easy-to-use mistake-proofing documentation forms you can use on the job Introduction to principles of mistake-proofing and design for assembly A quick, step-by-step methodology for developing superior mistake-proofing concepts Listing of select suppliers of mistake-proofing devices

Book Synopsis Foundations of Microprogramming by : Ashok K. Agrawala
Download or read book Foundations of Microprogramming written by Ashok K. Agrawala and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-06-25 with total page 437 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Foundations of Microprogramming: Architecture, Software, and Applications discusses the foundations and trends in microprogramming, focusing on the architectural, software, and application aspects of microprogramming. The book reviews microprocessors, microprogramming concepts, and characteristics, as well as the architectural features in microprogrammed computers. The text explains support software and the different hierarchies or levels of languages. These include assembler languages which are mnemonic or symbolic representation of machine commands; the procedure oriented machine-dependent; and the procedure oriented machine independent. A simulator is used to interpret programs written in machine or micro-language before the instructions in the program can be run. A simulator and translator (which change some steps from one program written in another language to another program) should interface with the design language of the computer for these components to operate even when a new machine is developed. The book cites four existing computers which have "simple" diagonal microinstructions such as the Hewlett-Packard HP21MX and the Microdata 3200. Horizontal types of microinstructions allow parallel execution of many micro-operations, such as the Cal Data family of computers, the Varian 73, and the NANODATA QM-1. Microprogramming is applied in emulation, program enhancement, operating systems, signal processing, and graphics. The text can benefit programmers, computer engineers, computer technicians, and computer instructors dealing with many aspects of computers such as programming, hardware interface, networking, engineering or design.
