Book Synopsis Design and Analysis of Shell Structures by : M. Farshad
Download or read book Design and Analysis of Shell Structures written by M. Farshad and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 425 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shell structures are widely used in the fields of civil, mechanical, architectural, aeronautical, and marine engineering. Shell technology has been enhanced by the development of new materials and prefabrication schemes. Despite the mechanical advantages and aesthetic value offered by shell structures, many engineers and architects are relatively unacquinted with shell behaviour and design. This book familiarizes the engineering and architectural student, as well as the practicing engineer and architect, with the behaviour and design aspects of shell structures. Three aspects are presented: the Physical behaviour, the structural analysis, and the design of shells in a simple, integrated, and yet concise fashion. Thus, the book contains three major aspects of shell engineering: (1) physical understanding of shell behaviour; (2) use of applied shell theories; and (3) development of design methodologies together with shell design examples. The theoretical tools required for rational analysis of shells are kept at a modest level to give a sound grasp of the fundamentals of shell behaviour and, at the same time, an understanding of the related theory, allowing it to be applied to actual design problems. To achieve a physical understanding of complex shell behaviour, quantitative presentations are supplemented by qualitative discussions so that the reader can grasp the `physical feeling' of shell behaviour. A number of analysis and detailed design examples are also worked out in various chapters, making the book a useful reference manual. This book can be used as a textbook and/or a reference book in undergraduate as well as graduate university courses in the fields of civil, mechanical, architectural, aeronautical, and materials engineering. It can also be used as a reference and design-analysis manual for the practicing engineers and architects. The text is supplemented by a number of appendices containing tables of shell analysis and design charts and tables.

Book Synopsis Theory of Shell Structures by : C. R. Calladine
Download or read book Theory of Shell Structures written by C. R. Calladine and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1983 with total page 794 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book attempts to bring the essence of shell structures within the grasp of engineers. It tackles the fundamental question of how bending and stretching effects combine and interact in shell structures from a physical point of view; and shows that this approach leads to an understanding of the structural mechanics of shells in general.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of the conference was to provide a forum for engineers, architects and scientists to discuss a broad range of research and design methods for various problems related to snow engineering. Specialists in building and civil engineering, environmental engineering, energy engineering, urban planning, and regional development as well as snow scientists were brought together for the conference. The technical sessions were in five thematic areas as follows: Snow technology and science; Building and construction engineering; Infrastructure and transportation; Housing and residential planning; Development strategy in snow countries. The 115 papers provide keys to realize more comfortable living conditions in snow countries and to overcome many problems in heavy snow regions.
Book Synopsis Engineering by : Gerald W. Mayes PE Retired
Download or read book Engineering written by Gerald W. Mayes PE Retired and published by Fulton Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2023-08-25 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book follows the life of the author from his early recollections of growing up on the farm through his college training and his career as a civil engineer. It explores what forces and influences led him to desire to become an engineer, specifically a civil engineer. It shows his successes and his deficiencies and how he overcame them. His experiences directly affected the way he treated others and how he turned failures into successes. It also introduces the novice reader to the world of engineering and adds insight to the world of the experienced engineer. Even experienced engineers and highly technical trained people can always learn more from others. The book follows his career through the initial graduation of the engineer, his first summer job as a practicing engineer, and each successive career change and modification. It develops the author as he learns to deal with supervision and being in charge as well as lessons he learns as his career progresses. As his career continues to develop, he learns that he does not utilize his technical skills as much since he has other competent people working for him to perform those tasks. As a supervisor of a large group, he has to develop people skills in order to handle the problems of his group. The book finally covers the many different tasks and assignments that are required that he must handle. The author performs many tasks that are not specifically a part of his job description, but he has learned to cope with unsuspecting requests and learns to adapt. A large part of his duties involves training and teaching those who work for him to accept new challenges and pass the knowledge learned on to others. The book will give insight into the working career of an engineer and provide instruction and knowledge to the young inexperienced engineer as well as to the experienced engineer.
