Book excerpt: Today's manufacturers are under tremendous pressure to develop new technological and high reliability products in record time. This has motivated reliability engineers to evaluate the reliabilities of such products. Reliability testing under accelerated environment — accelerated life testing helps to meet this challenge. This comprehensive and must-have edition provides a broad coverage of the optimal design of Accelerated Life Test Plans under time-varying stress loadings. It also focuses on the formulation of Accelerated Life Test Sampling Plans (ALTSPs) which integrate accelerated life tests with quality control technique of acceptance sampling plans. These plans help to determine optimal experimental variables such as appropriate stress levels, optimal allocation at each stress levels, stress change points, etc, depending on the stress loading scheme. ALTSPs determine optimal plans such that the producers' and consumers' risks are safeguarded.

Book excerpt: This book introduces a number of new sampling plans, such as time truncated life tests, skip sampling plans, resubmitted plans, mixed sampling plans, sampling plans based on the process capability index and plans for big data, which can be used for testing and inspecting products, from the raw-materials stage to the final product, in every industry using statistical process control techniques. It also presents the statistical theory, methodology and applications of acceptance sampling from truncated life tests. Further, it discusses the latest reliability, quality and risk analysis methods based on acceptance sampling from truncated life, which engineering and statisticians require in order to make decisions, and which are also useful for researchers in the areas of quality control, lifetime analysis, censored data analysis, goodness-of-fit and statistical software applications. In its nine chapters, the book addresses a wide range of testing/inspection sampling schemes for discrete and continuous data collected in various production processes. It includes a chapter on sampling plans for big data and offers several illustrative examples of the procedures presented. Requiring a basic knowledge of probability distributions, inference and estimation, and lifetime and quality analysis, it is a valuable resource for graduate and senior undergraduate engineering students, and practicing engineers, more specifically it is useful for quality engineers, reliability engineers, consultants, black belts, master black belts, students and researchers interested in applying reliability and risk and quality methods.

This book was released on 2013-03-21 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book collects the proceedings of the 10th Workshop on Model-Oriented Design and Analysis (mODa). A model-oriented view on the design of experiments, which is the unifying theme of all mODa meetings, assumes some knowledge of the form of the data-generating process and naturally leads to the so-called optimum experimental design. Its theory and practice have since become important in many scientific and technological fields, ranging from optimal designs for dynamic models in pharmacological research, to designs for industrial experimentation, to designs for simulation experiments in environmental risk management, to name but a few. The methodology has become even more important in recent years because of the increased speed of scientific developments, the complexity of the systems currently under investigation and the mounting pressure on businesses, industries and scientific researchers to reduce product and process development times. This increased competition requires ever increasing efficiency in experimentation, thus necessitating new statistical designs. This book presents a rich collection of carefully selected contributions ranging from statistical methodology to emerging applications. It primarily aims to provide an overview of recent advances and challenges in the field, especially in the context of new formulations, methods and state-of-the-art algorithms. The topics included in this volume will be of interest to all scientists and engineers and statisticians who conduct experiments.

In many industrial experiments involving lifetimes of machines or units, experiments have to be terminated early. Progressive Censoring first introduces progressive sampling foundations, and then discusses various properties of progressive samples. The book points out the greater efficiency gained by using this scheme instead of classical right-censoring methods.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Understand and utilize the latest developments in Weibull inferential methods While the Weibull distribution is widely used in science and engineering, most engineers do not have the necessary statistical training to implement the methodology effectively. Using the Weibull Distribution: Reliability, Modeling, and Inference fills a gap in the current literature on the topic, introducing a self-contained presentation of the probabilistic basis for the methodology while providing powerful techniques for extracting information from data. The author explains the use of the Weibull distribution and its statistical and probabilistic basis, providing a wealth of material that is not available in the current literature. The book begins by outlining the fundamental probability and statistical concepts that serve as a foundation for subsequent topics of coverage, including: • Optimum burn-in, age and block replacement, warranties and renewal theory • Exact inference in Weibull regression • Goodness of fit testing and distinguishing the Weibull from the lognormal • Inference for the Three Parameter Weibull Throughout the book, a wealth of real-world examples showcases the discussed topics and each chapter concludes with a set of exercises, allowing readers to test their understanding of the presented material. In addition, a related website features the author's own software for implementing the discussed analyses along with a set of modules written in Mathcad®, and additional graphical interface software for performing simulations. With its numerous hands-on examples, exercises, and software applications, Using the Weibull Distribution is an excellent book for courses on quality control and reliability engineering at the upper-undergraduate and graduate levels. The book also serves as a valuable reference for engineers, scientists, and business analysts who gather and interpret data that follows the Weibull distribution

Book excerpt: The aim of reducing the inspection cost and time using acceptance sampling can be achieved by utilizing the features of allocating more than one sample item to a single tester. Therefore, group acceptance sampling plans are occupying an important place in the literature because they have the above-mentioned facility. In this paper, the designing of a group acceptance sampling plan is considered to provide assurance on the product’s mean life. We design the proposed plan based on neutrosophic statistics under the assumption that the product’s lifetime follows aWeibull distribution. We determine the optimal parameters using two specified points on the operating characteristic curve. The discussion on how to implement the proposed plan is provided by an illustrative example.
