Book Synopsis Automated Fare Collection System & Urban Public Transportation by : Clifford N. Opurum
Download or read book Automated Fare Collection System & Urban Public Transportation written by Clifford N. Opurum and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2012-03-06 with total page 409 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With its unique features (presented in nine chapters grouped into five major parts), Automated Fare Collection System And Urban Public Transit: An Economic & Management Approach To Urban Transit Systems provides a wealth of resourceful information to everyone with interest in mass transit: Part I: Public Transportation, Urban Economy And Automation in Fare Collection Part II: Models of Transportation Pricing Part III: Transportation Research Methods And Models Part IV: Approaches And Trends in Urban Transit Ridership Part V: Epilogue In these parts of the book, Clifford N. Opurum reveals the impact of the automated fare collection system on mass transit and particularly, on the New York City rail rapid transit system. Various effective urban public transportation pricing techniques are presented. Transportation research methods and models including the alogit model and different approaches to transportation research analysis are featured. Alternative scenarios of cost-benefit analysis (CBA) are used extensively along with other feasibility studies strategies to determine the economic and social benefits of the automated fare collection system. The author concludes that as in the case of other industrial sectors, the financial health of the transit industry is very much dependent upon the level of transit patronage, and that automation in fare collection has further encouraged the later. Furthermore, he added that automated fare collection (AFC) is preferred over the mechanical system of fare collection and will make positive impact on both transit ridership and revenue, if efficiently operated. Finally, he stressed that society would be better off financially if the benefits of automation in transit fare collection are fully utilized, and that automation in fare collection has indeed influenced the travel pattern of most mass transit patrons.

Book Synopsis Urban Access for the 21st Century by : Elliott D. Sclar
Download or read book Urban Access for the 21st Century written by Elliott D. Sclar and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-03-05 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book sets out a road map for the provision of urban access for all. For most of the last century cities have followed a path of dependency on car dominated urban transport favouring the middle classes. Urban Access for the 21st Century seeks to change this. Policies need to be more inclusive of the accessibility needs of the urban poor. Change requires redesigning the existing public finance systems that support urban mobility. The aim is to diminish their embedded biases towards automobile-based travel. Through a series of chapters from international contributors, the book brings together expertise from different fields. It shows how small changes can incentivize large positive developments in urban transport and create truly accessible cities.

Book Synopsis Advanced Solutions of Transport Systems for Growing Mobility by : Grzegorz Sierpiński
Download or read book Advanced Solutions of Transport Systems for Growing Mobility written by Grzegorz Sierpiński and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-07-11 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What are the parameters that should be taken into account in an advanced simulation model designed for a transport system that promotes green travelling policies? How can the goal of modal shift be pursued through ICT solutions? Is it enough to apply only a single criterion when planning transport systems? What is the importance of information acquisition and provision in Intelligent Transport Systems? Answers to these and many other questions can be found in this publication. It also contains numerous analyses based on relevant data sets, illustrating the close relationship between ITS and the changes observed in terms of how specific means of transport are used. What proves to be particularly important for advanced transport systems is the use of environmentally friendly solutions that reduce their negative environmental impacts; accordingly, the book also addresses this aspect. With regard to the research results discussed and the selected solutions applied, the book prim arily addresses the needs of three target groups: · Scientists and researchers (ITS field) · Local authorities (responsible for transport systems at the urban and regional level) · Representatives of business (traffic strategy management) and industry (manufacturers of ITS components) Advanced Solutions of Transport Systems for Growing Mobility gathers selected papers presented at the 14th “Transport Systems. Theory and Practice” Scientific and Technical Conference, organized by the Department of Transport Systems and Traffic Engineering at the Faculty of Transport of the Silesian University of Technology. The conference was held on 18-20 September 2017 in Katowice (Poland). More details at www.TSTP.polsl.pl
