Book excerpt: The important debate on the growing graduate skills gaps, the value of universities to their business communities, and their role (or lack of ) in building entrepreneurial attributes among graduates is growing internationally. Using case studies from universities across the globe, this edited book seeks to bring together leading authors with knowledge, and/or experience, of the challenges of embedding enterprise education in university and college programmes. The text identifies and presents the current debates around the future role of universities and colleges in providing ‘fit for workplace’ graduates, as well as offering insights into the challenges and practices involved in delivering innovative enterprise education. The approach collates examples of ‘best practices’ from global institutions enabling educators to develop ‘blueprints’ for implementing in their own institutions. This innovative and comprehensive text is designed to be a ‘seminal resource’ for academic stakeholders on enterprise education collating diverse international contributions from enterprising universities and colleges. Drawing on both theory and best practice, it provides invaluable guidance to researchers, educators and practitioners considering embedding or expanding enterprising activities into their learning strategy.

Book excerpt: The Routledge Handbook of Childhood Studies and Global Development explores how global development agendas and processes of economic development influence children’s lives. It demonstrates that children are not only the frequent targets or objects of development but that they also shape and influence processes of economic, political and sociocultural development. The handbook makes the case for the importance of placing children at the heart of development debates and demonstrates how researchers, policymakers and practitioners can engage children in development. Through reports on field research as well as a critical engagement with theories in development studies and childhood studies, contributors contest normative assumptions about childhood and global development. They tease out and tease apart the complex social, historical, cultural, economic, epidemiological, ecological, geopolitical, and institutional processes transforming what it means to be young in the world today. Showcasing research from both established scholars and early career researchers, and with particular prominence given to the work of authors from the global south, this book will be an essential reference for policymakers, practitioners, and for researchers and students across childhood studies, education, geography, sociology, and global development.

Book excerpt: Emerging technologies in education are dramatically reshaping the way we teach, learn, and create meaning—both formally and informally. The use of emerging technologies within educational contexts requires new methodological approaches to teaching, learning, and educational research. This leads educational technology developers, researchers, and practitioners to engage in the creation of diverse digital learning tools that can be used in a wide range of learning situations and scenarios. Ultimately, the goal of today's digital learning experiences includes situational experiences wherein learners and teachers symbiotically enroll in meaning-making processes. Discussion, critical reflection, and critique of these emerging technologies, tools, environments, processes, and practices require scholars to involve themselves in critical conversation about the challenges and promises afforded by emerging technologies and to engage in deliberate thinking about the critical aspects of these emerging technologies that are drastically reshaping education. The Handbook of Research on Global Education and the Impact of Institutional Policies on Educational Technologies deepens this discussion of emerging technologies in educational contexts and is centered at the intersection of educational technology, learning sciences, and socio-cultural theories. This book engages a critical conversation that will further the discussion about the pedagogical potential of emerging technologies in contemporary classrooms. Covering topics such as communication networks, online learning environments, and preservice teacher education, this text is an essential resource for educational professionals, preservice teachers, professors, teachers, students, and academicians.

Book excerpt: This book is an original and international work that seeks to impart new perspectives on leisure studies, based on interdisciplinary dialogues that are, for the first time, brought together and made available in English. The present volume presents new perspectives on critical leisure theories, as well as an interdisciplinary perspective on leisure studies, departing from the traditional theoretical and practical viewpoint, with a political focus and in dialogue with fields of study such as politics, education, philosophy, urban space and others. The book differs from the most common approaches on leisure by presenting new theoretical and practical perspectives on leisure stemming from different realities in countries such as Brazil and Portugal, considering different aspects of each place and taking into account leisure as a political practice.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Given the increase in the ageing population and the evolvement of the Human-Computer Interaction field to a much more humanistic approach, debate is ongoing about designing technology-enabled products for active ageing and healthy lifestyles. Indeed, the mainstream game industry has been challenged with the emergence of an older target group, the advancements in gamification and the proliferation of SMART devices.Previous experience in the field has revealed that for many older adult gamers, games had a therapeutic effect through them being both cognitively challenged and rewarded. However it has also revealed that the gaming industry was not fulfilling their other motivations and accessibility needs.Furthermore, research to date has focused on the physical and cognitive effects of video games in the aging process. Up to now, the use of other active ageing dimensions that go beyond the health domains (i.e. sense of security, and participation in society) in games addressed to this target group remain unexplored. This book differs from current books on the market by focusing on games and the main implications to design for active ageing in terms of the market perspective, the information and communication society, behavioral design, mobility, urban and city planning, accessibility and assessment.

Inequality in Brazil is well-known, but its low mobility is not. Until now, few studies have sought to investigate how forms of social exclusion constrain socioeconomic mobility. Why do particular groups remain excluded and trapped in poverty for generations? What do Brazilians themselves think about income inequality and social mobility? This study explores these issues, provides a set of options to redress them, and promotes a national dialogue for action. In addi.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We are publishing this book as the result of a research project carried out by the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in Spain and AFM Krakow University in Poland. Some parts of it were already announced during a scientific Conference organised remotely in Kraków in October 2020. It is now time to present the research findings in writing. The issue of Artificial Intelligence has long raised questions and interests, including those of legal science. A number of problems have not yet been widely analysed, despite the fact that the present time is undoubtedly a time of technological challenges. Therefore, in the presented publication, prepared by the international scientific community, under our scientific guidance, the authors try to analyse the areas which, in their opinion and in our opinion, required such analysis. The leitmotif of our scientific work was human rights and their relationship with Artificial Intelligence. In presenting the research results in this book, we realise that a number of issues still need to be clarified. Nevertheless, we hope that the work presented for the reader’s consideration will constitute an interesting voice in the discussion, a point of reference for all those dealing with the legal issues of new technologies and the protection of human rights. As the presented book is a collective work, the authors essentially present their own views. The whole work has been designed to address a broad spectrum of issues in Artificial Intelligence and human rights in a single collection. We are convinced that such a broad view will allow everyone interested in the discussed issues to see the essence of contemporary problems faced by the science of law in a multinational perspective. We encourage everyone to read the book!
