Jahrhundert eingegangen werden, um den Kontext des Kriegsentschlusses der Herero zu verdeutlichen. Anschließend werden die Auswirkungen der deutschen Kolonialpolitik auf die indigene Bevölkerung herausgearbeitet, um so nachzuweisen, warum sich weite Teile der Herero Anfang 1904 zum Krieg entschlossen. In einem zweiten Abschnitt wird verdeutlicht, dass der Krieg gegen die Herero 1904-1908 als Vernichtungskrieg zu charakterisieren ist. Dies lässt sich nicht nur durch Verlauf und Art der deutschen Kriegsführung belegen, sondern wird auch an Hand einer Analyse zeitgenössischer Publikationen zum Kolonialkrieg verdeutlicht.
