Book Synopsis International strategic alliances and cultural diversity - German companies getting involved in Iran, India and China by : Daniela Heidtmann
Download or read book International strategic alliances and cultural diversity - German companies getting involved in Iran, India and China written by Daniela Heidtmann and published by Diplomica Verlag. This book was released on 2011-10 with total page 125 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Business is increasingly affected by the impacts of globalization. The technological progress, as well as monetary systems have made prices comparable beyond borders. If German companies want to withstand the global competition, they have to develop sustainable internationalization strategies. Since the risks of entering into a strategic alliance are comparatively low in contrast to other internationalization options, this topic has gained in importance. But a sound preparation is inevitable in order to succeed. While technological and economical risks of alliances can be reduced easily by a solid preparation, the social risks are highly dependent on the individuals involved and thus hard to prevent. Especially in international strategic alliances including the additional complexity of different national cultures, social problems can be of high importance. German companies which prefer to enter into foreign markets should carefully get acquainted with the foreign country?s cultural norms and values. Up to today, many approaches have been made to define culture and various studies have been performed driven by the desire to understand and provide explanations for cultural differences. The results of those studies can be used to evaluate the impacts of a national culture and its specifics on strategic alliances. Yet, a theoretical study of a foreign culture cannot replace practical experiences. However, it can provide a starting point which helps to understand and accept the behavior of a foreign culture. Research results provide a good foundation for the identification of basic assumptions which underlie a foreign national culture. The general framework of another culture can be investigated, understood, and even be learned to a certain extent. Nevertheless, nothing can substitute personal experiences with another culture and its specific beliefs and values. Due to the enormous population, especially in China and India, broadly diversified cultural norms and values according to cultural subcategories can be presumed. As the volume of international trade is likely to further grow, German companies will be faced with internationalization strategies also in the future. If they want to gain a sustainable competitive advantage while going international, German companies will continuously be forced to deal with cultural matters. A broadly diversified workforce will contribute to this understanding and hence to the international success. Nevertheless, the cultural values and beliefs of a nation cannot be completely generalized. Rather, geographical differences and other cultural subcategories have to be borne in mind. Some studies about cultural differences have already included such approaches to regional or religious differences, but further research is necessary in this field. Yet, social risks in international strategic alliances which are related to the individuals involved can never be excluded altogether.
Download or read book Education and Leadership written by and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2008-01-01 with total page 365 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This truly international book brings together authors from different regions of the world including North America, South Africa, Europe, Iran and Russia all of whom are concerned with aspects of the challenges involved in the expansion of higher education, both in student numbers and areas of study. Some are concerned about the loss of guiding principles which steered university education for centuries. The traditional purposes of higher education have come under such pressure that we have achieved “conflicting models of the university” (Claes) and “ambiguity” in regard to teaching and research (Simons et al). For others, the problems are at a different stage. Contributions from South Africa look at three challenges: Can we provide enough places in higher education? How do we deal with institutional mergers? How do we make staff development effective in a situation in which English is the first language of less than five percent of the staff? Young scholars in Russian regions face formidable hurdles in achieving academic careers while the best law graduates in Canada are faced with the ethical dilemma of personal career advancement or social justice (Topsakal). The problem of integrating nursing into a traditional Irish university is reviewed by Grant while the role of a university in regional development is addressed from a Greek perspective by Papaelias et al. The comparative international approach features in research into teacher job satisfaction in India and Iran while McMahon reviews the impact of the Bologna Process.

Book Synopsis Andere Länder, andere Sitten: Erfolgsfaktor Interkulturelle Kompetenz in der globalisierten Wirtschaft by : Maximilian Ludwig
Download or read book Andere Länder, andere Sitten: Erfolgsfaktor Interkulturelle Kompetenz in der globalisierten Wirtschaft written by Maximilian Ludwig and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2021-08-02 with total page 15 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis The Locative Alternation in German by : Ursula Brinkmann
Download or read book The Locative Alternation in German written by Ursula Brinkmann and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 1997-01-01 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph deals with the locative alternation in German, a change in the argument structure of verbs like spray and load. Like most argument structure changes, the alternation is both productive and constrained: new forms may be derived, but not from all candidate verbs. This raises a learnability problem: how can children determine, in the absence of negative evidence, which verbs participate in the alternation? The Locative Alternation in German tries to answer this question by providing an in-depth analysis of the conditions that verbs must meet in order to participate in the alternation. Most importantly, transitive verbs must allow speakers to presuppose the existence of their theme argument. This condition requires the theme to be incremental so that it can be conceived of as nonindividuated (or unbounded) when the verb is used in the alternative syntactic frame. The Nonindividuation Hypothesis splits locative verbs into two types, mass verbs (like spray) and count verbs (like load), and it predicts that children acquire the alternation first for mass verbs, whose theme must be a substance and so is nonindividuated by default. Support for this hypothesis is provided in the empirical part of the book, which also provides evidence against claims in the literature that children acquire the alternation by drawing on an innate Affectness Linking Rule.
