Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Summary: The Inside Australia project, by internationally acclaimed British Artist Antony Gormley, is an installation of 51 abstracted black steel figures standing in a 7 square kilometre area of Lake Ballard, near the goldfields town of Menzies, northwest of Perth and commissioned by the Perth International Arts Festival. Gormley calls his sculptures on Lake Ballard "Insiders", a bringing together of two notions of the interior; that which lies within the human being and that which lies at the interior of the continent. He sees the work 'as a field of antennae', reflexive rather than representational, allowing what is already there to be perceived and felt. Many Western Australians contributed by having their naked bodies scanned. These scans were used as the basis for making accurate concentrated forms, which allow attitudes and emotions embedded in posture to be revealed. Offair, ABC, 17/11/04, (50 min.).

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 423 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Continuities and Discontinuities in Development" was the theme for the Second Biennial DPRG Retreat, a three-day meeting held at Estes Park, Colorado, in June 1982. The meeting was sponsored by the Devel opmental Psychobiology Research Group (DPRG) of the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. The DPRG is a group of individuals conducting research in many areas of develop ment who meet on a regular basis to present and discuss their work and receive feedback and encouragement. In 1974, this group was awarded an endowment fund by the Grant Foundation, the aims of which were to facilitate the research of young investigators, to encourage new re search, and to provide seed money for collaborative ventures. Much of the work reported in this volume and in the earlier volume from the First DPRG Retreat is the result of that support. In addition to the work of the members of the DPRG, a select group of guests was invited to participate in the meeting and contribute to this volume. The chapters by William Greenough, Jerome Kagan, and Michael Rutter result from the participation of these scholars at the retreat. We would like to acknowledge the support of a number of indi viduals who have been instrumental in supporting the DPRG as a whole, as well as those who contributed directly to the Second Biennial Retreat and to the volume.

This volume contains 64 papers organized into eight parts. The papers in Part I deal with issues of research strategy. Part II presents studies on biological determinants of development. Part III examines cultural and societal factors in development while Part IV focuses on the concepts of deprivation and enrichment. Part V presents selected studies on infants. Part VI investigates cognitive process in child development. Part VII contains papers on socialization themes while Part VIII takes up adult development.

Download or read book Developmental Psychobiology of Aggression written by David M. Stoff and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2005-06-06 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the outgrowth of a memorial conference to honour the scientific contributions of Robert B. Cairns, an internationally recognised interdisciplinary developmental scientist. It is organised around research themes that were an integral part of Dr Cairns' theories and research: neural and developmental plasticity; brain-behaviour bidirectionality; gene-environment interactions. Throughout this book, these themes are linked together by employing animal models and clinical investigations through multiple levels of analysis approach to understanding the origins, development, desistance and prevention of aggression. These studies will add to the compendium of basic knowledge on the developmental psychobiology of aggression and will aid in the ultimate translation of this knowledge to clinical and community settings. This book hopes to foster the legacy of Robert B. Cairns to facilitate the theoretical development and research of a new generation of developmental scientists dedicated to relieving the tragic consequences of aggression on the individual and society.
