Book Synopsis Physics of High-Density Z-Pinch Plasmas by : Michael A. Liberman
Download or read book Physics of High-Density Z-Pinch Plasmas written by Michael A. Liberman and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A "z pinch" is a deceptively simple plasma configuration in which a longitudinal current produces a magnetic field that confines the plasma. Z-pinch research is currently one of the fastest growing areas of plasma physics, with revived interest in z-pinch controlled fusion reactors along with investigations of new z-pinch applications, such as very high power x-ray sources, high-energy neutrons sources, and ultra-high magnetic fields generators. This book provides a comprehensive review of the physics of dense z pinches and includes many recent experimental results.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This conference was a topical meeting in the area of high energy density plasma physics as it relates to magnetically imploded/confined plasmas: Z-pinches. Scientists interested in plasmas for fusion and other applications at temperatures around a million degrees centigrade with strong magnetic fields and intense radiation fluxes will be interested in this conference. The physics of the plasmas discussed in this conference include magneto-hydrodynamics and instabilities, fusion mechanisms, radiation transport, mega-ampere pulsed power, atomic physics, spectroscopy and x-ray imaging. This proceeding provides a snapshot of the field internationally.

Book Synopsis Dense Z-Pinches Fourth International Conference by : Nino R. Pereira
Download or read book Dense Z-Pinches Fourth International Conference written by Nino R. Pereira and published by American Institute of Physics. This book was released on 1997-12-24 with total page 662 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Proceedings of this Fourth International Conference brought together 129 delegates from 13 countries, with the largest contingents from the US, Russia, the UK, and France. The results of theri rewsearch represent a huge increase in our knowledge of the z-pinch, thanks to new and more comprehensive diagnostics, better computer models, and even more powerful pulse generators. The most prominent example of the latter is the PBFA-Z machine at Sandia National Laboratories, whose record-shattering radiation output is being studied at Sandia and at collaborating laboratories elsewhere.

Book Synopsis Frontiers in High Energy Density Physics by : National Research Council
Download or read book Frontiers in High Energy Density Physics written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2003-05-11 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent scientific and technical advances have made it possible to create matter in the laboratory under conditions relevant to astrophysical systems such as supernovae and black holes. These advances will also benefit inertial confinement fusion research and the nation's nuclear weapon's program. The report describes the major research facilities on which such high energy density conditions can be achieved and lists a number of key scientific questions about high energy density physics that can be addressed by this research. Several recommendations are presented that would facilitate the development of a comprehensive strategy for realizing these research opportunities.

Book Synopsis Cylindrical Liner Z-pinches as Drivers for Converging Strong Shock Experiments by : Guy C. Burdiak
Download or read book Cylindrical Liner Z-pinches as Drivers for Converging Strong Shock Experiments written by Guy C. Burdiak and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-06-06 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The thesis represents the development of an entirely new experimental platform for generating and studying converging radiative shock waves. It was discovered that the application of large magnetic pressures to gas-filled cylindrical metallic tubes could sequentially produce three shocks within the gas. A comprehensive set of instrumentation was devised to explore this system in detail and an exceptionally thorough experimental and theoretical study was carried out in order to understand the source of the shock waves and their dynamics. The research is directed towards some of the most interesting topics in high energy density physics (HEDP) today, namely the interaction of HED material with radiation and magnetic fields, with broad applications to inertial confinement fusion (ICF) and laboratory plasma astrophysics. The work has already generated significant international interest in these two distinct research areas and the results could have significant importance for magnetic ICF concepts being explored at Sandia National Laboratories in the US and for our understanding of the very strong shock waves that are ubiquitous in astrophysics.
